Too many to mention. Building a bridge over a by-pass so that dormice can safely cross the road springs to mind. Not sure if anyone has actually trained these dormice to use the bridge yet.

This is down to the Labour government at the Assembly not the Assembly itself. If you don't like what the assembly is doing vote to change the government.

I get fed up and disheartened by the fact that so many Welsh people continually talk down Wales in favour of continual rule by another country. Many countries in the past have fought for their independence from foreign rulers, but Wales, having been given a little bit of power (but not enough to make a real difference) has so many people who wish to give power back. Perhaps there is a link there with low exam results.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. They can only do what they can with the funds allocated by the UK government. As long as we are subject to the Barnet formula The welsh assy will always have a financial tightrope to walk.Still credit must be given for the fact that we still get free prescriptions.

NO won mate it was rigged
was the last time i voted for that reason.

I'd hate to think that has occurred but (sadly) I can believe there are those out there who would contrive!

all results in bar 1 Carmarthenshire NO had a 16k lead
Ron Davies,Rhodri Morgan and the yes contingent got up and left the hall accepting defeat.
all polls had shown Carmarthenshire was going to be NO,yet the result was 65% YES
it just looked all so wrong.

I'm not sure which polls had suggested it was going to be a no in Carmarthenshire. I'm not old enough to remember the referendum but I'd have thought it hard to believe that the polls would have suggested such a thing, especially as Carmarthen was the seat where Gwynfor Evans won Plaid Cymru's first in Parliament. It's no surprise they voted yes by such a margin. If it was Pembrokeshire, it'd have been suspicious, yes. But not Carmarthenshire.

carmarthen is not carmarthenshire just the county town.and yes it was a huge suprise to the pollsters the mps pushing it and the public.
labour wanted it and there was not a high profile against campaigner. had there been there would certainly have been a recount asked for .
but even if fair. such a big change that only 25 per cent voted for? a scandal

Just like BREXIT then! Think you'll find that only just over 25% of the population voted for that! Yes, 53% of those who voted but 25% didn't and 25% couldnt. Nobody's saying that that was a scandal!

Keep the Welsh Assembly.

Abolish all of the county/local councils.

Give the Welsh Assembly the same power as a local council. Take the rest of the stuff off them.

I would definitely scrap Westminster rule. Many of our serious problems over the years derive from right-wing governments there, from Thatcher to Blair to Cameron.
I'm no fan of the Labour administration in Cardiff bay either, but we have as much right to self- determination as the Irish or Scots.
We need more confidence in our ability to sort ourselves out and a faith in an education system which promotes our values of co-operation as opposed to competition.
Britain is slowly falling apart, but we don't want to be 'the last colony'.

The WAG is the blind leading the blind. At least the Nicola Krankie has a pair of bollocks whereas Carwyn, Wood & co continue to be nutless but happy with their heads in the trough. I'll be honest, I have zero faith in 80% of all politicians and I honestly cannot think of any material benefit that the bay talking shop has achieved? And they now want more AM's? Reform or get rid. Farce.

Ok little bit of internet digging gives:

2012 accounts:

14 ministers salaries totalling £2m

46 assembly members at 54k gives another £2.5m

Add 30% for NI, Pensions etc....

Total cost of members = £5.8m

Rhodri was elected in 2000 so lets call it 16 years at a cost of £5m in salaries

Assembly has cost us £80m in assembly member salaries...

Now we need to add the hangers on, the deputy ministers and their deputies, their staffers. Oh and the expenses... Conservatively you would double the £80m = now we're at £240m (including the minister's 80m)

Oh and the Synedd cost £69.6m

Let's call it a round £300m in costs

It's not all about cost it's about value, so what return have we got on our £300m.

If we'd just put that money in the bank at 5% across 16 years we'd now have about £650m.

So what have we got for our £650m :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Welsh assembly

Re: Would you vote to scrap the Welsh Assembly?

Wed Jan 25, 2017 10:16 pm

To put that in perspective its around 400 doctors on 100k a year for 16 years :banghead:

Give the Sennedd Law making powers equal to Scotland, Northern Ireland even Jersey & Isle of Mann have these powers as well their own Sterling notes. We will forever be a principality of the Saes if we roll over and give up on the Senedd. Just look of the state of of Infrastructure for Transport one Motorway, no Trams, no underground, if you want to travel to North Wales you have to tackle the ever winding A470 not to mention getting there by rail, even Aberystwyth you have to leave Wales by rail. The Assembly gets more grants from the EU for roads than Westminster. Westminster rearranged our history whilst abolishing our language via use of "Welsh Not" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Not. And they continue to brainwash us into being patriotic to a foreign Monarchy waving Union Jacks which do not even acknowledge any Welsh representation in its design. Abolishing your language, absolute rubbish the language you call Welsh was widely spoken in many parts of Britian but died out and was superseded by other languages. Currently Welsh is being forced down our throats on BBC Wales, a noisy minority want everyone in the Public Sector to learn it, schoolchildren forced to learn it and they aspire to 1,000,000 Welsh speakers by 2020.
Do you really think that's the best use of tax payers money, standards in English, Maths and Science have to be raised in Wales and should be prioritised long before an ancient language that will encourage no inward investment. This blinkered insular decisive thinking is holding Wales back.

Jock,as much as I detest the blinkered nationalist view he's right in one aspect. The abolishion of the welsh language although not written in law was actively pursued by employers and teachers in particular. Both my grand parents remember being beaten(you were in those days)for speaking welsh in the playground. Not so bad in rural areas but in the cities they hated the local dialect. If you want to know what it was like living under the English ruling classes back in the day then the example of the Gresford coal mining disaster should serve.266 men and boys were killed that day and as the disaster happened 3/4 of the way through the shift all the men both dead or alive were docked 25% of their pay.Its little wonder that the English are hated by many to this day because of the attitude of the minority English ruling class.I say minority because in truth they were just as bad to the english working class.

I understand that but the key thing is it was not "The English" it was a ruling elite who as you say treated the English working class as badly, many of my countrymen have the same attitude to the English and truth be told so did I when younger, before learning a wee bit about Scottish/European history. People who lack decency or empathy and abuse other people for profit are sociopaths wether they are English, Welsh or Scottish sociopaths matters little to those on the receiving end.

What about the bus that runs from Cardiff to Cardiff airport or the ghost bus as its known. Apparently it costs about £1.3million a year to run, with very few people using it.
