Sitting deep

Duffy is allowed to amble forward 20 yards and spray a pass to Bong. Brighton are playing like the home team, enjoying most of the possession. Cardiff seemingly content to sit in and see what happens.

Harris on the run

Good running again from Kadeem who gets to the byline and hooks in a cross which can’t find a blue shirt. Good to see Harris injecting some energy into this match, at least.

Unambitious?

A lazy pass from Whitts is easily cut out by the visitors, who again fail to show much ambition when they get the ba

Pedestrian pace

Murphy cuts in from the left and sees his shot blocked, then Ralls tidies up neatly. Slow build up from Cardiff again means Bamba and Morrison are seeing far too much of it. But here comes Kads. Harris drifts into space but SLOW SLOW SLOW again from the Bluebirds. It fizzles out.

Close!

At the end of a forgettable half of football, Brighton have a free kick in a fantastic position. Skalah blasts it against the wall... and almost pings it into the corner from the rebound! That was close.

Jeers

The crowd are not inspired by this. The first half has been hugely disappointing, whether you’re a Cardiff fan, Brighton fan or neutral. The positive? That it can only get better.

HALF TIME

The half ends with a foray forward from Cardiff that - again - comes to nothing after a complete lack of composure in the final third. That’s been the story of the afternoon so far, I’m afraid.

Hope for better

As the announcer at CCS hands out some free pizzas to the crowd, the only thing we can hope for is that this match gets better. It HAS TO!

Players re-emerge

Here come both teams for the restart. Hopefully with a rocket up the proverbial backside. Let’s see if anything changes as Brighton get us back underway.

I’m certain Chris Hughton would have been very unhappy with his side’s first half display. That was NOT the performance of a promotion-pushing side.

Noisier

Ralls lifts it out wide to Harris on the right, winning a corner. The Canton Stand show their voices. Whitts curls in the corner which goes past everyone and falls to Hoilett at the back stick. There’s header for Bamba but it doesn’t trouble Stockdale’s goal.

Duffy booked

It’s easy to overlook how effective Bamba is, and has been in this game. Another header won there at the attacking end of the pitch. Now Cardiff have their tails up as Duffy receives a yellow card. He doesn’t much like this ground, does he?

When does a change come?

Morrison prefers to play it safe and hoists his clearance into the Ninian Stand. Then Cardiff lift it forward towards Gounongbe but the Benin forward has not proved effective at all so far. How long before Warnock makes a change?

Ralls wide

The chance nearly falls for Joe Ralls but it’s a wayward volley on his right foot.

Set pieces

Another set piece chance? Cardiff looking better and we all know Whitts’ dead ball delivery is superb. Here comes the curling free kick from the right flank... and it’s only the referee’s whistle which stops Ralls getting another shot away on goal.

Missing Rick

Good from Harris to win the ball back from Murray in defensive midfield. But Gounongbe isn’t that focal point that you want him to be. Cardiff are missing big Rickie, they really are. Brighton corner.

Poor from Brighton

Skalak is taking care of the Seagulls’ set pieces and he’s not doing a great job of it. That one rolled to the first Cardiff defender for a simple clearance. Some activity on the touchline with a number of players warming up.

Brighton on the ball

We’re seeing more of more of Brighton as they attack the end to our right. Ben Amos still hasn’t made a significant save yet though, so that will serve as a crumb of comfort for Warnock. Though the visitors are knocking it about a little easier, until Duffy’s long pass goes astray.

Worrying signs for Cardif

Murray darts past Morrison to latch onto a long ball, then Murphy is on his bike to deliver a cross from the left. Cardiff are lucky to be saved by the ref’s whistle. Hughton’s boys looking more confident as we go into the final half hour.

Stay strong

Good header by Connolly to deny Brighton a headed chance from a Skalak corner. Cardiff clear their lines. They need to hang tough for a while now methinks.

Yellow

Yellow card for Whitts who brings down the onrushing Murphy down the left. Free kick... into the grateful arms of Amos.

More chances

Whitts then compounds a frustrating couple of minutes by hammering a 20 yard strike over the crossbar. A few more chances starting to develop in this game.
