Cardiff are preparing to complete a deadline-day deal for former Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert, according to a report.

The BBC Sport website claim Lambert will leave current club West Brom to become the Welsh outfit’s first transfer deadline day recruit.


The forward has struggled to find the back of the net on regular occasions since leaving Southampton in 2014 for Merseyside.

The 34-year-old forward only managed three goals and two assists in 36 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.



Lambert, who had entered into the final year of his contract under Tony Pulis at West Brom, can play as an out and out striker or in the number 10 position.

The goal-scorer will act as a replacement for the departing Federico Macheda who has left Cardiff after his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

Lambert will be hoping he can bring goals and a top-level mentality to the Championship side who currently lie 17th in the table.

The attacker has an impressive career record, scoring 220 goals and providing 88 assists in 596 matches.
