Yesterday's attendance - some facts and figures

I have been a season ticket holder for years, but I did not renew this season for one reason e.g. Russell Slade, If I am going to spend £500 on a season ticket then I want to be entertained with half decent football and you don't get that under Slade. I was there yesterday and honestly I see no difference in the style of play against last season. I am not a glory hunter but I like to be entertained and don't mind losing as long as the team are putting the effort in. Slade said some time ago that he has Tan's full backing in signing players but now he says that he has got to sell Marshall before he can sign any decent players. He just says the first thing that comes into his head. Where is the midfielder that he had agreed terms with or the striker. Too many people on this forum make out that they are in the know, but they know absolutely nothing when it comes to new signings.

I am not getting into an argument about it fella but seriously if you did not prefer the passing game yesterday to the hoof ball played last season then maybe you need to rethink what sport you follow. Maybe volleyball or golf would be better suited both both with plenty of high and long balls to watch

how can you say style hasn't changed? every man and his dog can see yesterday was light years away from last season's style of play! yes still has inherent problems but style wise completely different, obviously see football differently to most on here.

The style has changed, but it's hardly a huge difference. I wouldn't even say completely different as you suggest so. I must watch the game differently to many on here, because I still counted numerous occasions where the ball would go side-to-side or backwards, as in the second half, we were attacking down the right hand side, only for the ball to end back up at the feet of Simon Moore....what happened then? A chorus of boo's rang around the stadium.. did you miss that part? Perhaps the other 15k people don't have the same opinion as you my friend.

There have been plenty of seasons worse than last year since the 1960's. If you stomached the mid 80's then you are immune to crap football and would turn up no matter what. In recent history I can understand anyone who stopped going because of the rebrand, but to state the football on offer now is the worst ever is rubbish.

I can't even stomach the people who stopped going because of the rebrand to be honest, if you're a true fan, and can muster up the courage to watch the dreadful football on offer, then I'm sure you can accept a colour change and a new crest.

Correct, most of the game was played on the floor, but tell me, how many times did the ball end up at the feet of Moore, who looked for that long ball and flick on with Revell? That tactic sounds awfully familiar to when Jones plays up front. Which I'm sure, if Jones sticks around, will continue to be the dross served up by this idiotic man who calls himself a manager.

Christ mate, we were hardly exceptional or exciting Saturday. You lot are making it out to sound like we were one of the best sides in the league.

Defensively poor, midfield slow and lackluster. Thought Ralls was completely ineffective on the left, as you seen with him coming inside too much. Midfield was completely unbalanced as well, three central midfielders, with one winger, would have been interesting to see us go 4-4-2 with Noone/Ameobi with Pilks on the other wing. A lot to be desired for the partnership of Mason and Revell too. Mason barely touched the ball, and Revell continued to run around like a donkey out loose for the first time. All in all, far from good enough, even if it was the first game of the season.

Nothing to do with Tan Annis, this is all about glory and hope, under previous regimes we have been promised and told lies, I.e Sam Hammam and Peter Ridsdale. Tan delivered his promise, but with conditions, he also naively thought getting us up was the road to riches. The premier league if you can stay up is the only place to be.....

Some blinkered views here (not the majority I hasten to add). I'm no Slade fan but he has definitely changed the approach and there were glimmers of what he is trying to achieve. There may not be pace all around the team and out-and-out predatory strikers. That's because when they get good, they are cherry-picked by the PL, etc.

However, there was some ambition for link play and the players all seemed to want to be there. Noone's goal was astounding and the team showed character in order to get that point.

Real Madrid it was not, but it will certainly do for this league. All in all, progress and passion.

Didn't look any different to the attendances last season, just showed how many season ticket holders stayed away and wasted their money. They'll come back at the first sign of success. I don't know what I'd do without football personally.

Personally, don't think this has anything to do with Tan this time, mate. The standard of football is a huge sticking point for most fans, football is about entertainment and enjoyment, and if you don't feel it when you go to see your team live, why bother paying for a season ticket, when you can just turn up and pay for the games you actually want to go to? The only thing you can blame Tan for this time is hiring Slade, and cutting costs, he doesn't do the coaching, he doesn't do the signing of players, he doesn't do the team selection or substitutions...

paul that was my point while stats are good for comparison when you take everything into consideration they are worthless as so many variables that effect them! if we have reasonable start crowds wil improve

Officially the lowest attendance for a Cardiff City Football League home game since May 2008, although many have suggested there were lower 'actual' attendances at various points last season.

To me it felt a better atmosphere yesterday than 90% of last season's home fixtures. So maybe it's true cardiff not plastics which imo is better for the atmosphere and players pick up on it

I also thought that the atmosphere at the game was so much better than the majority of our games last season... The Canton was amazing. I'm right at the very back of the stand (well row ii) and the amount of arms in the air for Men of Harlech was brilliant. It's shocking to see how many families haven't renewed opposite though...

Dwindling attendances are a symptom of high expectations not matched in terms of results, coupled with an unattractive style of football.

To be fair, Saturday showed great promise and should be a boost for players and fans alike, but it will take time to redress the damage caused over the past few years.

Of the capacity crowds there during the Premier League campaign, obviously many were attracted by big name clubs coming to the CCS every other week. Some were genuinely inspired by the thought of top flight games in their home city. All thag gas gone for now and they have voted with their feet.

Tan [u]is[u]responsible for this in many ways because he has been instrumental in recruiting managers and sacking the previous one. HD is now withdrawing funding spitefully because he felt forced to return to BLUE. That was the cause of the rot and he continues to call the shots, but he hasn't given the club anything. It is a loan and he will want it back to a degree.

Slade, for all his faults, is a good man. He is trying his best to get things as good as they can be whole maintaining a healthy spending policy. This will, bring dividends in the long run, but for now consolidation is t the only likely outcome.

for the first time since I was 14 years old, and im 45 now I haven't renewed my season ticket, for me its several factors, being told sit, being told to mind my language, being in a boring atmosphere, lacklustre football, Vincent tan, crap beer, dear prices, and now more important than all is the 300 mile round trip I have made to the city for the past 25 years I cant be arsed to do because of all the above, some good friends have now taken up golf, phoned one Saturday to see if he was at match and said , naaa its all bollox, whats the point, that's the view of many of the old school, i'll be watching city this season but mainly away

My stand on this subject, excuse the pun, is what is the problem with people standing at the back?

Yes it is against the rules of the house but are the rules fair? You can stand behind the goal in the Canton but some of us want to watch the game from the side line as well as stand. So why not allocate say 5 rows from the back as standing across the Ninian Stand. I would say that would be acceptable for the majority of us and as the saying goes give them what the customers want.
