Agreed. His "Blumbrgereisog and Blodwinafanniog" used to grate on me. However irs an awful way to treat anyone, particularly after his years of loyal service. Club should be ashamed. Bye Ali!

I can assure you that he never said such a thing.

Sorry Cwmann me ole mucker, it was just a little fun, I didn't mean to offend. Its just that I don't like the sound of it that's all and I thought it all a bit incongruous with Ali being of obvious Semitic origin. However, it genuinely intrigues me why people get so defensive over something like a language. Its very subjective, we cant all have the same likes and dislikes. I have nothing against it but it does jar on my ears thats all. I mean, my mother tongue is English but if I were in some far flung corner of the earth snd some native told me they disliked the sound of English it would mean absolutely nothing to me. It is merely a functional tool for the purpose of communication in my view (or hearing as the case might be).

Some utter tools on here. If you're Welsh and don't like the Welsh language being used in Wales then take your ignorant arses over the bridge and go and live amongst the other ignorant land grabbers in England. They don't speak Welsh either, I'm sure you'll be delighted to find out, and you can be free from the horrific ordeal of having your home language spoken in your home country. I mean who'd have thought it aye? Welsh being spoken in Wales? The shock of it? Unbelievable. They'll be speaking Turkish in Turkey next.

And yes, people should get DEFENSIVE about their NATIONAL language, culture, heritage and tradition because if you allow that to be taken from you, you are also allowing your IDENTIFY to be taken from you and replaced with something else. As Cardiff fans with everything that has happened, you should know what this means more than most.

English may be your mother tongue but so what? You're in Wales, not England. If you want everything in English then sod off to England. Problem solved. You people expecting everything in Wales to be in English are no better than the idiotic English prats who go abroad expecting everyone to bow before them and speak English to them like its their divine right. How about, you stop being lazy and ignorant of other countries cultures and ways, educate yourself and at least try rather than sit there and whinge because you don't understand what is being said?

Anyone who is Welsh who is hating on the Welsh language should hang their head in shame. You are little cowards who bring nothing but shame upon your country.

Very sorry to hear Ali has been sacked. Top announcer. Anyone who regularly goes away will tell you how good Ali is compared to others. Such a pity when club were starting to actually get the PR right.

Re: STADIUM ANNOUNCER LEAVES CARDIFF

Fri Aug 07, 2015 11:08 pm

I will defo bring it to the attention of Meri Huws (Sais on here, look it up) should the club not get a bilingual announcer.

It is absolutely the responsibility of the biggest club in Wales to promote the language. If we don't, who will?

Use English first by all means, that does indeed make sense.

In a age of sterile stadiums where everyone sings the same songs, it is something that sets us apart from 89 other clubs in the league (assuming the Jacks and Cewnty also use Welsh).

As for the sacking, it is another example of the club lacking class and doing business the wrong way. Remember Ali is a fan also and they have treated him with no respect.

They really are grinding me down.

I personally love the welsh language, and I'm really glad its making a comeback in schools in Wales. (Its becoming cool to speak welsh) with the younger generation. I Couldn't give a fuk about what the rest of the world thinks. It's our language, part of our identity, its something we have over the paddies and The jocks and IMO, something we can be very proud of, that we've actually managed to keep it alive, is quite remarkable. When you tell someone you are from Wales on the Internet, or on holidays, one of the first things they usually ask, is "do you speak welsh". So our language has got to be worth something aye? Also, hats off to ali (someone of Somali descent is he?) taking the time out to learn the welsh language. He has my total respect for that. I wish him all the best. Top bloke imo

Re: STADIUM ANNOUNCER LEAVES CARDIFF

This^^^^^^^

Welsh is your native language if you are Welsh. If you live in Wales, you will be educated to some degree to speak Welsh and learn about Welsh culture. Welsh is the oldest language in Europe. Far from being dead, it is enjoying a resurgence thanks to policy decided in Cardiff by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Gaelic of its varying forms has become rather an academic language, spoken by very few in Ireland, Scotland and Cornwall. Such a pity, but we in Wales are far more fortunate.

If you don't like the sound of Welsh, leave and find a more agreeable place to live. Accents and dialects will greet you wherever you go. All the best with that!!

A previous poster made an excellent point: Somebody should fly our flag by using Welsh prior to kickoff just to let the opponents know they are in a proud country. The Haka is performed before NZ play (and other S Hemisphere sides).

Now for the main issue:

THE CLUB HAS YET AGAIN SHOT ITSELF IN THE FOOT ON THE EVE OF THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. I DON'T CARE IF ALI WAS NOT THE BEST. HE DESERVES BETTER THAN THIS UNPROFESSIONAL TREATMENT FROM THE BOARD.

Not sorry to see him go. Perhaps the timing could have been better, however, its suddeness suggests there's a bit more to this - maybe it'll all come out in the wash.
I found him self-indulgent, obscure songs played just to link to some equally obscure reason. Yes Ali, we know you've learned Welsh ... no need to constantly remind us.

stadium annnouncer

On eve of opening match all the talk is about Ali Yassine.

C:WindowsTempphp588C.tmpIs it me or does it seem City have a habit of mistiming situations? The decision to relieve Ali Yassine of his duties as tannoy announcer less than 24 hours before the new season kicks off has caused a rumpus through social media and given fans another stick to beat the club with.

There are some that have no time for Ali and his tannoy persona but there are many hundreds, if not thousands of others who feel he is an integral part of the club and the matchday experience.

There has been no mention of the decision from the club but Yassine, 51, took to Facebook last night and said

"Hi everyone i.e. fellow Bluebirds,

"I was informed by Cardiff City Football Club today that my services as a stadium announcer are no longer required and my contract has been terminated as of today. This will also apply to Wales games.

"As you can imagine, after almost 15 years in the job, I'm gutted to say the least. However, I just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the amazing support you've given me over the years. I wouldn't dare presume that I'm everybody's cup of tea but I've loved every minute of it and, thanks to you all, have some fantastic memories.

"Also, good luck to my successor, Richard Sheppard.

"All the best,

"Ali"

Cardiff kick off the new season at 12 noon today when Fulham visit CCS.

Agree, Nukes

It was a shame his antics were curtailed a few seasons ago, as I think a 'character' on the PA can help create the match day atmosphere, particularly in the bigger games!

Don't worry about losing sleep today. It's an early start, so people will understand and I'm sure Annis and the boys will let you know when something positive happens! ;)

Firstly, it is your national language because Wales is a country within a country. Wales has country status and thus is a nation within a nation. If you're going to go around citing history maybe get your bloody facts straight before entering into a discussion. Welsh is your NATIONAL language and if you think otherwise then you're only going to highlight how much of an idiot you truly are.

As for sparking little man syndrome, it was all of you hating on the language that felt compelled to air your ignorant views of it in here. Cwmann Bluebird simply responded to those moronic comments and rightly so. He and I responded to prior comments so lets get the facts straight.

Finally, your comment on nationalism is utter tripe. Are you complaining about America's rampant nationalism and want to liberalise the world? Oh no, wait, thought not. Maybe its because you speak English and you can understand what they're all bloody saying. The only ones with little man syndrome are you morons who cant speak your own national language so go around mocking and insulting anyone who does speak it to cover up your own insecurities, which is exactly why you came into the thread to have a pop in the first instance.
