Lots of exciting young talent on show. But to be fair, I don't quite understand how one good game from Ralls has made everyone forget just how poor he has been at times this season. I don't get why people seem to think he should suddenly be first choice on the team sheet.
Thats what opinions are about![]()
Well everyone who was walking past me on the way out, were not happy at all with the football they had just seen.
I thought Charlton were no better.
Ralls deserves a run in my opinion.
Yes Ive seen worse football than this, but these are suppose to be Championship players on £ Thousands a week and to me they played poor and were boring to watch.
So you thought it was a good game of football?
From our side of things, I thought it was a lot better than some of the football we've seen since Slade took over. The recent home games against Reading and Rotherham were two of the worst games of football I've seen, and we were nowhere near those levels
Guerra, Le Fondre...those guys would be scoring for fun today, in my opinion. We've created yet another new style of play for ourselves yet let go of the kind of strikers who'd benefit from it.
I just don't think we were "awful" today. I get where you're coming from though, and agree Slade is absolutely dire and the only manager who I've sung at to be fired. I'd be very surprised if he was at the club in August - I suspect a quiet departure from him this summer.
Yes I agree for periods of the game,we had improved and looked solid at the back, but I had to remind myself how poor Charlton were. This is a very poor division this season and we have to beat sides like Charlton at home. Our home record is abysmal. There was no real quality other than Manga.
The reason I said awful was because Charlton were poor and we in periods struggled against them. We should of got a draw at least,
ANNIS FOR 80MINS WE HAD NO problems total control! Witts off for 5 mins altered game and poor defending for 1st goal and idiotic tackle for other cost game things have improved like no hoof ball more possession needs lots work but cannot expect anything with cost cutting done, also slade is only an interim manager to oversee cuts ect, as no other decent manager would have excepted job on terms slade did? New manager next season

When we scored In the second I really wanted us to build on the goal. But as usual we switched off and let them get on top of us. I thought it inevitable that Chatlton were going to pull one back. We also invited the penalty by playing too deep for too long.
Why on earth was Kennedy dropped and why was McAleny taken off? Also not good that Ralls was dropped for Whittingham. Although with Slade that was also probably inevitable.
Very cheesed off tonight.

During those minutes, they seized the initiative and the game swung in their favour. You could sense they found a belief they could take something from us and their attacks became more purposeful and dangerous.
Should Whitts have been subbed to reduce the time we were a player short?
Also, our final ball was mostly poor again as were Whittingsm's dead ball deliveries.
We'll stay up because of the rubbish below us but we are going nowhere but down in Slade stays through to next season.

Too often the ball ended up back in the centre halves or goalies feet because of a lack of outlet with macheda and Jones not running the lines. This was not addressed during the game and his like for like substitutions didn't improve this.
connelly and mcalenny were willing runners and noone worked hard especially on his defensive part but keeps cutting in too often. When he did go direct to the byline we scored.
gutted by the result as they looked inept yet we've managed to lose a game we were in relative control of due largely to me having a manager whose clearly out of his depth.

I agree that results simply aren't good enough and Slade isn't the answer.
However, anyone saying that today wasn't an improvement on the majority of what we've had to endure this season either hasn't seen many games or is letting their negative views of Slade get in the way of making a fair judgement of the performance.
We actually played some football today and looked like a team for possibly the first time in 3 months. Even with a lightweight centre midfield of Ralls and Whitts we had a good degree of control and created a number of chances in open play that has been rare all season.
I'd like to see Slade gone sooner rather than later but anyone with any football knowledge and no agenda knows that today was actually quite a good performance. It shouldn't paper over the cracks that results aren't good enough but it was an improvement nonetheless.

Personally I never thought we were in total control of this game. Everyone knows that as long as there is only one goal in it, anything can happen. I was waiting for the inevitable to happen, that is us defending deeper and deeper as time goes on, and the equally inevitable costly errors to creep into our game. Could see it coming a mile off having already seen it umpteen times already this season. We continue to make the same mistakes week after week.

I thought we have improved in the last few weeks, albeit from a very low base. Considering Charlton have been having a resurgence in form themselves, they were awful for the first hour and only had one shot at goal. However, Charlton sensed their chance when Whittingham went off for his stitches and the team seemed disorganised for 10 minutes or so, when Charlton managed to score. The penalty seemed a bad decision (although I haven't seen the replay). We did enough to win but lost. Sometimes this happens in football. Let's move on. I fear a little for our next two away games, but remain positive.
