Missile and bomb attacks on Palestinian civilians in their homes, schools, mosques, on their streets and on the beach = calculated military aggression (aka murder) for political ends.

And it didn't all start with the murder of those 3 Israeli youths - or any of the other (mainly Palestinian) youths who have been murdered over the past months and years. It started long before, or at least this phase of the conflict started when Israel reacted to and tried to break the Fatah-Hamas unity agreement in Gaza City in April.

The more Israel bombs, invades, kills, and tightens its stranglehold on Gaza (causing untold misery) the more Hamas will gain support - not for religious reasons, but because it will be seen as the only way of resisting.

There has to be a political settlement, and after decades of death, recrimination, anger and fear that will take even more time and be very difficult - made worse because so many of the players have agendas (Israel, USA, Egypt, maybe Iran) that are served by the conflict continuing.

I understand why Israel take to violence but they go way over the top. They have some of the best defence systems in the world, Hamas' weaponry barely gets through it a lot of the time. I like how people always say Israel are the victims because they are the ones being bombed, look at the past 50 years, Palestinians have been treated like shit and they will continue to be as well while the world turns a blind eye.

The way you present that it implies that the Egyptian government are some kind of neutral 'honest broker'.

I'm sure they will be involved in an eventual truce/agreement (only after hundreds more have been killed) as they will have to be guarantors of whatever finally emerges, but they are enemies of Hamas, not honest brokers. Hamas is affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood - and the Egyptian government has hundreds of their members in gaol awaiting execution after show trials.

Hamas said that the Egyptian proposal didn't deal with any of the underlying issues or grievances and was not the basis for a stable peace. If that is the case (there have been worldwide internet debates about the rights and wrongs of the proposal) then it is no wonder that Israel accepted and Hamas didn't.

Before they could give back the rest of Gaza they started seeing rockets coming further into Israel because of Hamas moving their operations to the land they were given.

Israel then put the second part of the deal on hold because Hamas did not honor the deal that was agreed between Israel and PLO.

The war gets imo presented as a one sided attack. What most dont write a shit about is that Israel got anti rocket systems that disables 90% of the rockets that will hit Israelian settlements. The Paletines got no defence.

Hamas get no sympathy from me. They cant afford to keep schools and hospitals up to date but they can afford to send 9000 rockets into Israel. Hamas is so wrong and dont help the Palestines case at all with their priorities.

There is only one way they can win, that is by investing in their people. Education, health and go the diplomatic way and leave Israel alone.

The BBC have refused to release a report that they commissioned on how even-handed they really are on covering Israel and the Palestinians.

It's a report that us, the licence-payers, have paid for, but aren't allowed to see. They've spent another £300K fighting in the courts to stop us seeing it. How about that!

How many rockets landing in our neighbourhoods could we turn a blind eye on ? Not one especially when we know who's firing them.

Both sides are ridiculous. These numbers show that Hamas cannot win - Israel have all the weaponry. However, what good does Israel think is going to come from bombing Palestinians to this degree? Remember how we were told how Bloody Sunday sent hundreds of Catholics into the arms of the PIRA? Imagine that about 20 times over.

Israel really does need to accept that Palestine territories have been pushed so far back and their people are now so oppressed that they feel they have nothing to lose. Israel's over-aggressive stance is an absurd strategy in the long run. To get both sides back to the negotiating table, both sides must feel they have something to negotiate with.

you do realise it is hamas thar fired the misiles first.....and pretty randomly at that.......the death tole is greater on one side than the other due to israels defences.............Hamas knew this, and if they didnt they do now but continue to bomb.........are israel to blame for retaliating.......or Hamas to blame for being less concerned with the well being of their own people than scoring moral victories in that some misiles are now reaching nearly 100miles....
