The poulation of Uruguay, only 3m

They do well considering the population but I'd be surprised if they ever won it these days. They won the first ever one in 1930 which was an invite only affair hosted in Uruguay. Only 4 teams from Europe even played. The second time they won it was 1950 and even then not many teams took part, they did win it in Brazil though. There is no reason we can't do what counties like Bosnia or Slovenia have done recently, they all seem to have strong teams who all know each other well and fight the cause, we seem to end up with a few huge names and little team spirit.

It all starts with the grass roots and until we get that right we will stuggle to bring through the quality of players required to give the National team a chance

Passion, support and the fact it's southern american based teams so they have more pressure on them to qualify whereas we just hope we finish top 4 just to get better seed for next tournament.

Also Uruguay have quality players in most departments.
