We were a good deal for Campbell at the time, and shouldn't have been held to ransom. I don't agree that this was Lims fault. Moody was Head of Recruitment. He wasn't a scout, he was an ex-agent, and would have had the role of tapping up players identified by scouts and negotiating the contracts. Otherwise what was a Head of Recruitments role? Lim would have done final sign off. Lim was in an unfamiliar business (no football experience), and took his lead from the Head of Recruitment as Moody had 100% backing of Malky. At best, neither had experience with a big budget, nor the contacts. Nor did players want to player for a manager of Malkys status, which is why we kept getting strung along even though we offered big money (Ince, capoue etc).
It is all unravelling now. Players signed at hugely over inflated prices, and ridiculous sell on clauses. We have either been tucked up, or the dream team of Moody and Malky really were Watford level at best. Tan should have got rid long before.

I understand perfectly. The release clause only gives a club the right to talk. If a higher bid comes in, then that can be accepted too. Why would a player want to go for no more than the release clause threshold? If another club comes in with an improved offer, the player, subject to terms would go there instead if that is what he wanted.

Exactly! Why on earth would a club bid 2.5million, when they would have a bid accepted at 800k?!

The release clause amount is too low. I keep saying it but somehow you aren't acknowledging this. Don't forget, you stated yourself he was worth £2.5m.

Wow. I've already said this once. At the time of purchase, it was probably just about right. He may not have signed at all if that clause wasn't there. You aren't acknowledging this.

What I value him at, or what YOU value him at, it doesn't matter. :old:

You are obviously going to take an opposing view so I won't go back through each point again, but I will state the fact that the cast majority of members on this forum will agree: Fraizer Campbell is worth at least 3 times the £800,000 on offer at present. Therefore, we are losing million/s. Let's see how many apart from you disagree with that.

We are not losing anything we are gaining £150,000 and he is going for his agreed release clause.

I very much doubt we would of got him without it.

When did you want him to sign a new contract to put in a higher release clause?
I doubt he was worth much more the summer after we went up, so not then.
And knowing we were likely to go down I doubt he would of agreed to sign one in January as it makes a move away harder.
Obviously not going to sign one in the summer as we are down and he wants out..

How much is he worth?? Most on this forum say anywhere between £2.5m to £5m. To have to sell for £0.8m is ridiculous. On paper, £650k >>>> £800k looks ok but not when you consider his actual value.

I can see us losing similarly on imminent transfers too. It seems to be a talent we have e.g. Cornelius. :?

My life.

It's what he was worth AT THE TIME WE BOUGHT HIM that counts.

After the season he had? 3/4 .

We were hardly going to buy him for £650,000 and put in a £3,000,000 release clause though, like I said part of the deal was probably the low release clause..and like I've said above when did you see a new one being put in?

Let's just put it down to bad luck then.
