Sorry to hear this. Thats the worst thing about having dogs as there is a pretty big chance they will go before you and they become one of the family pretty quickly. Sounded like he was about to be pretty ill so small mercies that he went in a painless and peaceful way without the long term suffering some animals go through with tumours.

Stick his photo up Nukes.

Very sad when you lose a pet, part of the family as many have said on here. Take comfort that you did your best for him.

Beautiful dog.One of ours had to be put down a few years ago.She had grown so old and weak that there was no quality of life anymore. She spent loads of time swimming in the local river. So we had her cremated and then scattered her ashes in her favourite spot. When i walk past that spot it always brings back good memory's.

Gutted for you mate; we lost our little mate on a Friday 13th a few years back. I found the easiest way to heal the pain was to find another dog because, although you'll never forget the ones you've lost, it helps to replace the grief with more love.
As others have said, keep thinking of the good times.

I know what you guys are saying but I won't get another because it won't be my Max and it would not be fair on another dog. He was a special dog who also looked after my Wife when she is having bad days with her MS and he would sit with her when she was bad, and it comforted her. But with the Dog walks it was always down to me as my wife was unable to do them any more.
It's gonna take time I know, at the moment it's the guilt of knowing did I do enough, could I have done anything differently ?
But at the moment I done everything as I should and I thought the reason he slowed down a hell of a lot was he was getting older but it wasn't.
Feeling sorry for myself and I will snap out soon and then I will have the memories of the good times. My wife said she has never seen me like this before in over twenty years of being together, she ain't ever seen me cry before. But I got. To say thanks to everyone on this thread as you have all helped me and a massive thank you. Xx

Don't feel guilty Steve. Nothing you could do other than make the difficult but right choice to say goodbye.

It's amazing how a furry 4 legged friend can have such an impact on our lives and the gap they leave when they go is horrible.

As regards getting another one it's a personal choice. We waited a month or so before we started looking or rather the mrs did because I wanted to wait a bit. As said previously we now have 2 lovely dogs who are not Bartley but they are there own unique characters who bring joy and happiness to our family.

One of the reasons I'm not interested in getting any pets of that nature.

I knew the day would come Karl but wasn't expecting it when it did. One minute bounding around then he was seriously ill. But would not of changed a thing in regards to having him the pleasure was all mine. I thank him for being a loyal friend and he was my boy as well.

Nukes, I know we have our issues on here but Im really gutted for you. It happened to me last year and was just as sudden and it hurts like hell. I got a new puppy now, 5 months old and was the best thing I could have done. Its incredible how much dogs mean to a family. Im sure you'll get through it and remember Max and all the good times you had.

Gutted nukes. Have to take solace in the fact you gave your dog a great life and a lot of love. Makes all the difference.

Chief they never woke him from the operating table. The tumour had filled his abdomen and it had spread to his lymph nodes. He went peaceful so that is our only comfort at the moment.

Nukes , are you getting another dog ? I've put a deposit on a pup & I'll be picking him up in 5 weeks , can't imagine never having a dog around. It'll be 2 months since we lost our dog when we pick up the puppy. The happiness they bring totally out ways the sadness that comes with them passing away .Here he is ( no name yet )

He's a beauty. What breed is he?

Call him something ccfc related. Bartley, keenor, perry, Tarki, stant, Dwyer or ole.

Vinny would not be a good choice

Spot on about the reputation , their nickname is actually "The nanny dog" because they are good with kids . I have thought about the name Blue .
