Out of interest and I'd really appreciate as much totally honest feedback on this as possible:
If, for practicality reasons, the 'alternative' shirt was a good quality bespoke one with a design chosen by City supporters via a poll but not necessarily produced by a major supplier such as Adidas or Nike, would that impact on your decision to purchase one?

I wouldn't buy one, forget it Phil don't waste your time.Fans want the club kit not an imitation.

i think its a goer.... but we have to see what Tan comes up with first, when it turns out to be red (we still live in hope) I think it could be a winner

Looking at the very little amount of red & the amount of blue worn.... I'd suggest that the fans DONT want the club kit.

I would get one for next season..if we could sell 10k then that would be great. im sure there's a few on here who can come up with some wicked blue shirts

Alfie,
I think it is a good idea. But also think you need to be realistic about how much money fans would put on a shirt. I don't think fans would want to spend £50 on a protest shirt. I have noticed there are already various "protest" shirts available.
A high quality cotton, retro style shirt for less than £20 would be more desirable I would imagine.
A protest shirt is part of the bigger process pif the "protest".
The larger more fundamental issue is for the fans's groups to unite together and agree a common strategy with regards to:
- goals
- shirts
- media communications
- elevation of Bluebird Brand
- boycott all club's merchandise (even blue club shirts) until rebrand is reversed
For marketing purposes it would be good to have a vote across all forums on choice design just to show the fans' clubs are democratic (which will enhance how out of touch Tan's Clan are). The media will like this.
Going to Nike might be a good idea "Always be Blue" rings nicely with "Just do it". Any manufacturer will want significant pre-orders confirmed.
From a pure business perspective fans are "loyal, base load customers". Most businesses adore to have such customers.
Tan tends to look at the fans as "rebellious employees" resisting his changes - this is incredibly disrespectful, most companies appreciate hearing the feedback of their customers. How many companies do you know who seek to go to war with their own customers?...crazy.
Also forget the argument about TV money, if the stadiums were empty the cameras wouldn't film the matches, the supporters are part of the spectacle and no doubt enhance the spectacle. I doubt SKY would show matches at empty stadiums.
Tan is in a position of weakness right now, hence:
1) negative media image - his criticism of Mackay (after the settlement) is incredibly desperate and unprofessional
2) team relegated (lucky red eh?)
3) alienated his customers (fans)
4) the clubs debt is his debt, he has a lot of money to lose
5) a split club obviously impacts the players
6) also he is breaking many rules of how a successful company should be run (won't bore you with the details)
Good luck, and yes I'd buy a couple of shirts....but only if it is all co-ordinated.
The supporters groups have to come together to strengthen their opposition, otherwise Tan will just use the "conquer and divide" approach.

The only thing the trust should do is to grow and be its rightfull link between the fans and club. To many "inner circle" thugs run the supporters views and communication. The trust is in a position to claim that link, so grow some balls and do it!

I love cynics, just like myself.
Can you imagine AA, Carl, MM etc? They'd soon change their tune.

That is why you need a strategy, and why the fans' team needs to be consolidated. You put a lot of work into your strategy, and then stick to it. You let the strategy and objectives drive the meeting and not the emotion.
The issue is bigger than having a "blue shirt", the fans team would need to give Tan and Dalman a plan of how to revert back to blue and save face for all involved. Tan would need to turn any step down into a positive and the goal of the fans would be to help him, because we would need his investment.
Tan is in a position of weakness, there is no doubt about that. The good news is he is still giving money to Ole for players.
The key question for Tan is "do you want red at any cost?", or "do you want a successful global brand which has a success football team.?".
Tan is full of contradictions with regards to Modern Branding. Just look at the following global brands....
- Facebook = blue / white
- Twitter = blue /( white + even uses a Bluebird as it's logo - what an opportunity missed here by Tan, this Bluebird has value!!
- Samsung = blue / white biggest company in Asia
- Microsoft = blue / white
- Nestle = blue / white sometimes with with Bluebirds in a nest
- Berjaya Group - even the logo of Tan's own fricking company is blue & gold !!!
I know there are red brands too, but these are older brands - McD, Coca-cola, Levis, Lego, Heinz - all the old generation...
Really Tan's marketing people have missed something big here....

Agree, there has to be genuine unity.
I also think the price of an alternative shirt has got be sensible.

If this is still being considered then it gets my vote.
Firstly get the stadium blue, then help a charity and get the Echo on board to publicise the whole thing.

Sounds like a good idea, if you can make something decent and keep it at a reasonable price I think it would be a success.
Does need to be done sooner rather than later though in my opinion. Releasing one before the club have even released a design would help sales.

This minus the Adidas would look great.

Echo publicising with Ty Hafan on the shirts, it's a win win. Get a supermarket to accept stock and we could attract plenty of customers.

I would prefer adidas but Nike would suit the City more I think.
