I heard this afternoon that Liverpool are in talks with City over Steven Caulker.
I know there has been a lot of press speculation about Caulker and clubs including Liverpool have been linked to him but the chap who told me reckons that Liverpool and City are discussing a deal worth £15m.
Personally I am not 100% certain that this is bang on information or just a story that is doing the rounds because of recent press speculation but it does throw up a few questions.
Is Steven Caulker a player you would expect to sell for £15m after signing just a season ago for £8m, also would you think that a deal that much is something City should not turn down ?
One thing that is definite in my opinion and that it is good business by City if they do indeed get £15m for a player that will undoubtedly be looking to move on to strengthen his hopes to play for England on a regular basis.
To start with....Caulker only came to Cardiff for game time as he was not getting it at spurs and he needed to be in any team in the PL that would make him a regular first team choice. He used Cardiff as a shop window for International benefits.
Secondly he has not done spectacular at Cardiff. He has been ok and yes he will definitely go this summer. He may go to Liverpool but I have a feeling he is more likely to go to a team like Swansea Newcastle Everton Southampton as Liverpool will be looking for bigger defensive players.
I don't think he is worth £15 million though. Can you see any of the mentioned teams paying out 15 million for a CB? when they would be stretching to pay that amount for a striker. Especially Swansea. They don't throw their money around like our club. That's why we are in the shit and they are sitting pretty with no debt, a well run club (apart from a few silly fights in training when the passion and competitiveness shows its head.
I see Caulker going for between £9 mill to 10 mill maximum
just look at the transfer market . I am being generous as he is only worth 6.600.000 £ there look>

Some of what you say makes sense. I can see those clubs going for him, although Swansea may not just because of pride.
His transfer fee is likely to be in excess of £7m, but again I agree that £15m is striker territory for mid to low table PL clubs.
He has played well in a Cardiff shirt and don't forget that pearl of a header against the run of play at jaaaaaklaaaand!
I suppose the bare facts are that he wanted exposure as well as game time, but you imply he did this for personal gain alone, which is a bit harsh. His loyalty has not been in question and to be honest, if the rest of the defence (Marshall excepted) had show as much commitment and balls, we may nit have conceded so many goals.
My guess on his value would be around £8m. I'd take that.
£8m? That is a bit mean surely. I mean I am sure his stock went up slightily more than that. I would say minimum 8.5 to 9m being more realistic.
Ok then Willie what about noone then? How much can we get for him and what prem team would grab him?
Noone has great potential and he has caught the eye of a few clubs I'm sure. However, why hasn't he had more game time? That will colour his resale value. I do think we should make every effort to keep him next year as he is definitely top drawer for Championship if the worst comes to the worst.
If I was Noone, I'd think carefully about going to a bigger club. How much time would he spend on the pitch? Ask Scott Sinclair how he enjoyed warming the bench for the Manx!
Noone was out of favour with Malky.
He never had many games left to play when Ole took over but I guarantee you if he played from the beginning of season, He would now be worth 2.5 million as he would have proven his worth in PL. the transfer market values Craig at 1.8 m at the moment so we would make£750,000 profit if we sell him for 2.5 and that my friend is good business.
Noone is worth more than 2.5 IMHO. He has performed well when given the chance. He has been featured on MOTD as a player to watch. I'd say at least ask for £4m.
That, my friend, is better business!!!

Apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona, no-one in Spain has got 11m to spend on a striker let alone a defensive midfielder.
Atletico are doing fantastic under Simeone but they are a selling club, who dont splash the cash, and their midfielders are far better than Medel anyway. The other so called bigger clubs such as Valencia and Sevilla are in financial shit street.
Be lucky to get 3m for him I reckon.

What do MOTD know? Listen Willie I go by transfer market. Stop fantasizing about bigger money. You watched to much fantasy island as a kid I think. £4m my arse!
Noone is great going forward but he doesn't provide good cover for whoever plays behind him. This is why malky didn't play him much of course OGS being more attack minded did, and everyone blamed the full backs for doing a bad job defensively but Noone played his part in that. He needs to develop the defensive part of his game to be interesting to good clubs in PL.

We will definitely get at least that for a 22 year old England international defender with his level of experience in the Premier League.
