GENERAL CHAT wrote:Legend comes from the Latin adjective legenda, "for reading, to be read," which referred only to written stories, not to traditional stories transmitted orally from generation to generation. This restriction also applied to the English word legend when it was first used in the late 14th century in reference to written accounts of saints' lives, but ever since the 15th century legend has been used to refer to traditional stories as well. Today a legend can also be a person or achievement worthy of inspiring such a story—anyone or anything whose fame promises to be enduring, even if the renown is created more by the media than by oral tradition. Thus we speak of the legendary accomplishments of a major-league baseball star or the legendary voice of a famous opera singer.

Ole is a legend for sure, and given the media coverage, and the following world wide while he was at Man U he is a big well known legend.
Alan Tate is a legend too, in Swansea.

So are you suggesting that there are different levels of legend? Surely a legend is a legend?

I would suggest that Michael Jackson is a bigger legend than say Clive Dunn as a singer? :D  :?
So yes, many levels of legends.

Who the hell considers Clive Dunn to be a singing legend on any level? You've seriously lost the plot, mate

Whoosh!!!

My point exactly!! :D :D :D

Alan Tate!

But that's just my point. Clive Dunn is not considered a legend. Alan Tate is.
So at what point does someone become a legend? What are the criteria?

Fan opinion, could be achievements, loyalty, way he plays on the pitch. How long he's been there, love of the club, shared hatred of rivals.

So then, both Solskjaer and Tate could be considered as legends based on that?

By their respected clubs yes. The question was whether solskjaer was a man utd legend.

You're right and I argued that the word "legend" is greatly overused and also questioned what constitutes a legend. It appears that a legend is what anyone wants it to be, which kind of proves my point

Clive Dunn the signing legend. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Do you realise you're averaging over 50 posts a day??????? You really need to get out more!

Says the man who spends his free time in the forums of his rivals. Obsessed. :laughing6:

Were you at Bolton on Saturday, Chuckles?

Why? What has that got to do with anything? :? I'd love to be able to afford to go to all these away games, but I simply can't. So limit myself to a few a season. Is that a problem?

You deflect that away from the original point about you being obsessed all you like.

Why do you think I bring it up? You keep calling me obsessed in some juvenile attempt to wind me up and it clearly doesn't work. I mention your inability to go to away matches and you go off on one. Cue smug face.

You do realise how ridiculous it is that you berate a Cardiff fan for posting lots on his own forum, when you spend your evenings on here looking for bites and trolling?

I'd suggest taking a bit of your own advice, Nigel.

If you say so. Hardly think asking someone if they went to a game is "owning" them. Pointing out your hypocrisy, however... :laughing6:

You really don't get it, do you? I know how to pull your strings! I know how to push your buttons! Mention away games and it's like lighting the blue touch paper. But you still can't see it. That's what's so funny. I'm playing you like a fiddle and you come back with responses like the above. Brilliant!

By the way, are you going to Manchester United tomorrow? You know, the biggest away game in your club's recent history. Theatre of Dreams, 76,000 fans, Ole's former club. Bet there's going to be a great atmosphere. You going, Bazza?

Biggest away game in recent history? Not a chance.

No, won't be there. I'd love to go, but it's a Tuesday night & unless teleportation has been invented, I couldn't make it, even if I could afford it! :laughing6:

Where did I say it wasn't a big game? :? I said not the biggest away fixture in recent history. Big difference.

I'll be going to watch it at my local pub. Seeing as I won't get in until 5:00pm - it's the only way I could watch it. :malky:

The Swansea fans are crazy, really. This argument It is really as stupid as a Swansea fan going to United pubs and arguing with the locals and saying Ole Gunnar Solksjaer cannot be a United legend because now he manages Cardiff. The answer will I
think be when Ole enters the pitch tomorrow night and will be embarrassing for the Swansea fans. It proves only the
stupidity and maybe blind hatred of all things Capital
