What's so fun supporting a team in decline/in a league where they're bigger than? You'd be happy playing the likes of Wimbledon, Exeter and Hartlepool etc when a city of this size has the possibility for this team to have crowds of 40k, playing consistent PL football? :sleepy2:

I would rather that if it meant we were back in blue, yes.

No disrespect mate but it may sound romantic but unless you've been there you wouldn't know.

I don't care about how good my football team is, how good the football team isn't a factor as to why I support my club.

It's easy to talk like that when you haven't had to drag yourself along week in week out.
The truth is, many who come on here telling you how great it was would walk away from the bob bank after losing 2-0 to the mighty Bury or Mansfield and say 'f**k this I'm not coming back next week!'
Yes we'd end up back there because it was part of us, but I never walk down sloper road hearing people say 'I'm not coming back anymore' these days.

You don't realise how privileged you are to watch the likes of gary medel and kimbo etc representing your club.

Pride and identity means more to be than success. It's as simple as that.

I don't care how good we are, I'll support Cardiff through thick and thin. Right now it's a bit of both.

Yeah a lot of us have been around during the 80's and 90's when we were mostly playing shit football at some shit football stadiums, so yes some of us are enjoying things like winning the championship and playing premier league football. But we all still love our football club! As for being glory hunters  grow up, we are hardly winning trophies every season

Watch it. If your enjoying things youre a sell out in Tontegs book

How any City fan can enjoy what's currently happening with our football club is beyond me. The only good things about our football club at the moment imo is our manager, players and staff. Our owner, Malaysian board and some of our fans certainly does make supporting us a less enjoyable experience than it should mind.

You wouldn't believe how much this shit bores me!

I've watched us since 1989 and believe me it was far less enjoyable than it is now. Until Sam came along and we started climbing the leagues we were absolute garbage.
People harp on about the Eddie May days like they were similar to the shankly or alex ferguson era's. The fact is that we had ONE really good year under Eddie May, yes it was a great season but honestly the football was still pretty shit. I loved Phil Stant with a passion, but the truth is that he probably wouldn't even get near our development team now!

I'm pissed off with the events of the last week but anyone who really thinks they'd enjoy 4th division football more than what they are being served up now, I challenge you to go and watch newport for about 4 games in a row then report back how good it is!

That's where we differ. I started watching us the same time as you and it's not all about success or the quality of football for me. It's about feeling a part of your football club, having a good day out, having the feeling of local pride and having a passionate, emotional connection to your team however shit we might be.

During the Eddie May days, I watched us all united as one, not divided in separate red/blue groups fighting amongst ourselves. I was one of the junior Bluebirds being allowed into games for only a quid, which really made me feel a part of my local club. We had a manager I was proud of and I was watching players who I was proud of because they gave their all for us. The following season we struggled, but however shit we were and however much I was taken the piss out of in school for supporting "rubbish" Cardiff City, they were my local team who I was proud of.

Unfortunately, I feel differently these days. I am slightly embarrassed being a Cardiff fan because of our ridiculous rebrand and what Tan is doing to our club. Our promotion last season and our Premier League experience so far would have been much more enjoyable for me if we played under our proper identity. I am still enjoying it and I could never give up away days (Fulham recently was one of my favourite away trips ever!), but I'm not enjoying it as much as I should be as the passionate emotional connection I once had is not there like it used to be.

I loved that season and the season before. I travelled to almost every away game too but your memory is being very selective.

Rick Wright was probably our best chairman but I remember him putting the whole squad up for sale the season after and people turned on him.
I remember shouting clemo out, and sack the board etc. I remember kumar and others.

We have always been a bit of basket case if truth be told. The only difference today is that we have social networking so we can feed off each others misery!

What about the year we reached the carling cup final? We were blue then but still people moaned like f**k on here!
What about when we got to the FA cup final? We were blue but everybody moaned like f**k!
What about when we failed to reach the play off losing to sheff wed? We were blue & we were playing at ninian park yet still everyone was moaning like f**k!

The fact is, we are Cardiff fans & though I'd rather play in blue etc I still believe we'd be moaning if we won the champions league in blue shirts at ninian park!

Yes we had that one great season and the City giant killing the following year but as Gwyn said earlier it didnt take long for the fans to turn on Eddie and Ricky Wright. Not so united when the results went against us.

I don't recall the fans ever turning on Eddie. Rick Wright sold up and all our key players like Nathan Blake, Phil Stant etc were sold because Wright wanted to make a quick buck before leaving, so Eddie had a thankless task. Eddie will always be regarded as a Cardiff City legend. Frank Burrows and Lennie Lawrence got us promotions like Eddie, but it's the Eddie May days myself and others go on about as those days were a great time to be a City fan. Those days were so special because Eddie was a special person who we all couldn't help falling in love with.

Totally agree. Rick Wright was given dogs abuse when we lost to Barry Town and his idea to withdraw us from the FL to play in the League of Wales went down like a lead balloon. Also, as much as I liked Eddie May, he was very tactically naive, but was lucky he had leaders in the shape of Robbie James, Ratcliffe, Ramsey and Stant to sort things out on the pitch.

I was young back then but I don't remember Eddie getting a serious amount of stick, I remember the fans being more sympathetic for Eddie than against him and I wouldn't have thought Eddie would still be held in such high regard now if the fans really turned on him as much as you say. I was in the family stand back then mind which is obviously much quieter than other parts of the ground.

I recently read Eddie's book which brought back memories and he was very much loved with the City fans and is still very much loved now. Those days were my favourite period watching City anyway and it will take something special to beat how I felt back then.

I'm not disputing there were some shit days. The Clemo, Kumar, Osman etc periods were woeful but the worst for me was Kenny Hibbett! Remember him blaming his lack of signings on the fact that geographically, we were in a poor location so nobody wanted to sign for us? Then we had him narrowing the pitch to stop the opposition hitting us on the break, so you know what happened on the narrow pitch? They just hit us on the break through the middle instead!

But honestly, I did enjoy those days just as much as what we have now. You might think I'm strange and bonkers, but I have always preferred playing the lesser teams in lesser stadiums, simply because I got to interact with proper, decent football fans and visit different grounds with character. Those at Accrington this season will tell you about being able to watch a parks game going on behind us and the banter when there was a penalty in this parks game. I tend to find with the smaller grounds, there are little things that you remember and look back on with the smile more, but maybe that's just me!
