CCFC Reunited - Your Club, Your Crest

We want to stress that this isn't a joke, it's a serious project! We've got a branding agency starting on the designs next week so we really need some feedback on what fans want the new logo to be like

What is your view on the recent rebrand of Cardiff City?
Is the heritage and tradition or the future success of CCFC more important to you?
What elements would you like to see on CCFC’s new crest? (Dragon, bluebird, ‘Cardiff City’, ‘est. 1899’, ‘fire and passion’, daffodil, red, blue, other colour etc.)
What would help you to feel like you can embrace a new club crest?
Do you think a well-designed and good-looking club crest is important and why?
Do you think a new club crest based on fans’ ideas, and chosen by them, would help to reunite CCFC fans as a united, loyal fan-base?

FYI, We're not related to BU, we are our own project with a slightly different objective. Our aim is create a logo influenced by fans, designed for fans and chosen by fans. We hope that this new crest - respecting CCFC's heritage and history as well as their exciting future - can be embraced by all CCFC fans and reunite a fan base split by differing opinions on the rebrand. With a new crest that's more representative of fans and looks more professional, we hope this whole rebrand issue can soon be put to rest and fans can reunite as a passionate force behind their team, to support CCFC through the preimer league!

We still want to hear what more people think! Everyone is always saying how they hate that fans are not being considered or listened to - well now is your chance to have your say, so take it!

Below is a copy of the brief sent to our designer!

Last summer, Cardiff City Football Club (CCFC) was rebranded with red kits and a new crest featuring a prominent red dragon and the new motto ‘Fire and Passion’. This rebrand was not widely accepted by the fan base, which was split by their differing opinions. Our project, CCFC Reunited, aims to reunite the fan base by creating a crest for all fans (a compromise between the club’s history and tradition and their future and success). The overall goal is to create a crest approved by fans to present to the CCFC board, the new crest hopefully being taken on as the club’s official crest in the future. Other groups have been set up in response to the rebrand; our project differs in that it understands that any changes need to be comply to what the new owners want and what the fans want and the club’s heritage, whereas the various fan groups want a return to the previous kit and crest only.

The crest should represent both the club’s tradition and heritage and their new directions and future success in order for it to be viable as a new club crest, thus elements representing the club’s heritage (the bluebird and blue) and new directions (the dragon and red) should be featured. For the new crest to be accepted and embraced by fans, they feel it should represent what they want and how they see their club. From research via Twitter and forums, fans have suggested that the presence of the bluebird is very important. The crest must also take into account what the club’s board and owners want, as they must approve of it, including the use of red and a red dragon, to help the club’s popularity in the Middle East and reflect the Welsh aspect of the club. Fans have also suggested that they dislike the quality of the design of the current crest, calling it a ‘beer mat badge’.

Considering fan suggestions and the wishes of the club, designs must:
• Incorporate a bluebird and the colour blue
• Incorporate a dragon and the colour red
• Incorporate the wording “Cardiff City” and the motto “Fire and Passion”
• Work as a crest
• Be useable on football shirts and merchandise and as a logo for the club
• We would like designs by Wednesday to show fans

The above brief has been passed onto the branding agency and we will present a number of new crests to you later this week to see what you think. A campaign to launch the fans’ crest will begin in August and September!
