A forum for all things Cardiff City
Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:54 pm
Hi Dave from Caerphilly.
First City game v Leeds in F A cup, not the Scott Young game, the Johnny Giles game in 1972.
Fav current player Super Kev, favourite previous players Tony Evans & Gary Bennett.
Been reading for quite some time having previously posted on club message board, figured if you can't beat them?
Loving this season and the way Malky has the team going about their business.
Favourite Ninian memory, probably that game mentioned above (my debut), over 50,000, queuing outside Grange with my dad and our sardines to get in ground at 1.0 for a 3'o clock ko, needed a barrier to sit on so I could see.
I will also never forget my first visit to the Vetch, 1981 I think? About 30 of our lot got in amongst the Jacks on the North bank and started a Cay-ar-diff, talk about the domino effect, waves running in all directions. The Old Bill appeared quite quickly to escort ours back to the away end to a heroes welcome. A 1-1 draw I seem to remember with Peter Kitchen (good goalscorer) getting ours.

Just arrived on the site - opened a new thread to introduce myself and then discover that there is an introduction place. Have just copied the other post I did into here. It's great to finally connect to a Cardiff City site, something that makes my 5 year daughter really proud. In her whole life, she has spent about 20 minutes in Cardiff, which was last October on the way to the Liberty Stadium for the Wales v Switzerland game. However, despite living near the Kruger Park, South Africa, she has a Cardiff kit and is desperate to go to her first game. Going to make that happen when back in the UK at the end of March. I guess that makes us the South African bluebirds, though we are originally from Sheffield, England.
As I cannot attend games and struggle to see to much football on tv (massively annoying), I started following text updates and collating some stats on the Welsh clubs, as we are passionately Welsh due to our family ancestry. This has lead to me writing a blog on the six Welsh teams in the English football pyramid. Have just done the first one on Cardiff, previewing the weekend game with Doncaster, who are just round the corner from Sheffield, where I used to live in England. Had some positive comments from Doncaster fans on this, but the article (and the future articles I will be writing on a regular basis) are done from a Cardiff perspective.
Going to be on here rather a lot in future and will engage with other threads on a regular basis. However, thought I would open up a new thread just to introduce myself and create a place where (if the mods are happy) I can inform people of updates on the blog relating to Cardiff City, which will be about once a week. The blog is however updated with discussion on one of the 6 clubs most days of the week.
The Doncaster v Cardiff article can be found at
http://amberarmy.blogspot.com/2012/01/b ... ummit.html If you like it, do let me know. I have tried to use some of the stats I created to write the article so it does create a different feel to general previews and press reports. I research carefully and try to make everything accurate, but obviously being so far away makes it more of a challenge.
Great to be on the forum - looking forward to hopefully getting to know some of you.

First (and only) Game: Cardiff v Southampton, late september 2011
Favourite Player: Peter Whittingham - what a foot!
Least favourite Club: Man City
Most memorable moment: Kenny Miller x2 vs Southampton, and Cardiff in general.
There might not be a lot of norwegian Cardiff-supporters around, but I'm one. Man Utd have from youth always been my "first pick" (who can blame me - they had plenty of norwegians in the 90's). But thanks to computer games such as CM/FM (where Cardiff has always been my favourite team to play) I've grown to really like Cardiff City, and in september of last year, I took the trip over and watched the Seasiders play So'ton (I've seen Man Utd once, and Cardiff once, and Cardiff is the place I'm planning on returning to). I took the plane from Oslo to London, and from there on the train. The city was beautiful and the weather was great. I took a walk to the bay, hung over, but still fantastic (I envy those of you who live in the city). The game was great - "stop with it, you're 'avin a laugh". Even the walk back to the city was entertaining - chavs fighting at a Texaco, with som loud girls shouting at us for watching the show. That game was my so far only experience with Cardiff City, but I'm strongly considering another game (I'm thinking Peterborough, as mid-week games is easier for me).
As of now it looks like I'm going to take my master's degree in Aberystwyth, which will probably mean I'll be able to catch a lot more games next season. I'll be interested in knowing where the bluebirds-supporters swallow pints before games - last time I ended up in a 80s-karaoke bar on St. Mary's street (Bonnie Tyler will never be the same again). Last time I sat on Ninian stand, and I'd like some advice on if there's any better places to sit - please come with suggestions (I got the impression a lot of the home-supporters stood on the end to my right). Otherwise, I'd love to get a ticket for the Carling Cup-final, but those might be hard to get (even if I'm with the Cardiff supporters) - In the worst case scenario, I'll watch it at home.

Favourite Players: Adrian Alston, Ron Healy, Peter Whittingham, David Tong, Dave Bennett, Jeff Hemmerman, Phil Dwyer, Craig Bellamy. Craig Middleton [only joking...]
Favourite Moments: Beating Wrexham 3-2 in FA Cup with another Buchanan special when most of the crowd had gone. Seeing Bellamy score THAT goal against the Jacks at the Liberty. Throwing snowballs at Jon Holdsworth when he played for Oldham in a dire League Cup game and him throwing them back to the Canton Stand with a smile on his face. FA Cup Final 2008 - never thought I'd see the day... Can't wait for 26th Feb 2012. FA Cup game v Exeter City where we won 6-2 can't remember what season but a great FA Cup tie.
Least Favourite Player: Wayne Rooney
Worst Moment: Play off Final - was in China at the time and every time the internet stream worked, Blackpool had scored. Middlesborough last season - how could they go drinking before such an important game. Losing 0-6 at home to Notts Forest and Sheff Utd and 1-5 to Huddersfield at NP, salvaging a 3-3 draw against Stockport after being 3-0 up inside 12 minutes and then doing the same against Torquay the following week... Loovens disallowed goal in Cup Final.

Least memorable moment, my wedding ring flying off after celebrating conway's late goal against pompey, still in the dog house for that one. or mabey my boy catching a bouncing condom thinking it's a balloon, and saying 'go-on dad look what i caught', i think it was the part were i had to explain why he had to throw it away.
Best player, i like them all this season, they all play for the shirt.

Alright just joined up and thought id say hello. Im 32 from Glasgow started following Cardiff when i was a youngster, my old Grandad was originally from Cardiff before he moved up too Scotland for work. He started too take me down for games every couple of months since i was about 5 years old and i truly caught the bug for city.
when i turned around 18 i started coming down myself trying too get down too most big home games and the odd away game when i could, I've not been too any games for a few years I've been abroad working past 6 years but always kept up to date with whats been happening and watching online when i got a decent stream.
Just came back too Glasgow about 3 months ago so I'm going too get my season ticket next year and get down for the last couple of decent home games this season. Ordered my tickets for the millwall and leeds games and hopefully get down too London for the final end of the month. Anyway just thought id say hello and I'm looking forward too posting and enjoying the forum.
