Without Kane and Bellingham England wouldn't win the Vertu trophy let alone the World Cup.

England survive a major scare to reach the Last 16.

They will play Mexico next, they'll have to play a lot better than they did today.

They can't keep relying on Bellingham and Kane to get them out of trouble.

Basically England was crap a better team would have beaten them ..... next up Mexico in the azteca can they iprove not sure as not really improved from previous games

Like I said, they are too reliant on Bellingham and Kane. Defensively they would be ripped apart by France and Mbappe.

Hard enough to play at the Azteca as it is, but even more so against a Mexico team that are doing well.

And only lost 2 out of 82 games at azteca

Wow. Belgium looked done at 2-0 down.

Score two right at the end and it's 2-2.

Superb goal from Kane; and great response from England

Belgium get through in extra time but I still say they're not a good team.

USA game at 1am but unlikely I'll be awake for that. But hope they win, good for the three hosts to be in the final 16.

USA won overnight, they'll play Belgium next.

Today:

Spain v Austria (8pm)

Portugal v Croatia (12am)

Switzerland v Algeria (4am)

What did you guys think of the penalty given to Belgium in the extra time yesterday? I didn't think it was a penalty personally.

I agree. Given that there's been a high threshold for penalties awarded in this tournament, surprised it was awarded.

This is one of the worst English sides I have seen at a tournament. I think Mexico will beat them although England are due at least one good performance.

They do have some top quality players. Don't think much of Tuchel makes odd decisions. Surely if you've got Reece James at right back you bring plenty of back up when is he not injured. They may well go all the way, the only scary looking team at the tournament is France and they are on the otherside of the bracket.

I've said it before, but Bellingham and Kane are the key for England. They will always perform, if they sort out their RB issue then they could get to the semi finals. Rice did alright there last night.

Personally don't think they have enough to beat Argentina or France. I said France pre-tournament and nothing has changed my mind on that.

Portugal v Croatia - 0-0 HT .

Portugal win 2-1 but Croatia have a 103 rd minute equalizer ruled out for a massively debatable offside , absolute crazy ending to this game

Not sure on Argentina they aren't really going to be tested at all until the semi final. Mexico and whoever wins out of Brazil and Norway look like 50/50 propositions for England at best

Apparently they used a snickometer to see if it touched the attacker?
But I thought if ball hits defender and he didn't move for ball your offside anyway? Totally confusing situation... but we can't be having such miniscule analysis in football ..let's hope wengers new offside rule stops all this nonsense.

This is how sensitive snickometer is a tiny strand of hair brushed the ball apparently

I think technological interference is killing the game

I doubt very much that the picture tells the whole story, anyone can take a snapshot in time & there's no way a hair would set it off or even register BUT you are 100% correct about the technological interference going too far & killing the game.

What's the new offside rule that Allan mentioned?

Wenger wants to give a few more inches to the attacker, which doesn't change marginal calls at all, it may lead to a few more goals though

Egypt lead 1-0 against Australia at half time, besides the goal in the 11th minute there are no highlights as it's been a very defensive game so far. The Aussies will need to come out of their shells in the second half & take some risks.

England's game against Mexico on Sunday could be moved to 7pm (UK time) due to a threat of storms.

If correct it will mean if there is light between attacker and defenders he's offside other than that hes onside so the two saw yesterday would be onside... its far easier to see daylight between players than than it is to see who's wearing bigger shoes or who's got bigger nose like it is at moment?

Makes perfect sense to do that, always thought it should be that way or something close to it. Should make for a boatload of goals while defenders get their act together.

Entertaining last five minutes of normal time, Egypt unlucky not to get a winner.

But generally has been quite a poor game.

Australia v Egypt goes to penalties.

Australia have made the decision to substitute a different goalkeeper on for the shootout.

Egypt win 4-2 on penalties.
