Johnny Thunders - my all time hero mate. Guitar Legend and had the good fortune to meet him a few times too.
k.r.o :ayatollah: :D .i saw him a few times playing with his band when he co headlined a tour with hanoi rocks.was messed up on smack though.youtube has some great vids of him and the dolls.a young johnny thunders before the smack took hold was something to behold.he/they should have been MASSIVE.i,m no guiter player but from what i can gather he was a tidy player.my mate who is a guiterist says he,s not the best technicaly but as an inovater he is right up there.j.t loved keef.johnny had his own orignal style.when he died he left feck all to steve jones as he,d a;ready had all his riffs and solos off him  didn,t j.t live in leeds for a while?if his kids could have a quid for every guiter player who had been influenced by him they could retire and live in beverly hills.
I worked several dates of that tour mate - both great live bands. Hanoi Rocks never got over losing Razzle - he was a friend of mine, and was a really nice unpretentious guy. Everything you say up there is true and JT was alongside Ron Asheton and James Williamson [The Stooges] the daddy of the punk/glam/sleaze rock sound. He's influenced so many others without ever getting the recognition not just in their playing styles but in image too. His pisstake Steve Jones riffing in London Boys is top notch. I do believe you are right about him living in Leeds but not sure. RIP JT...
i was with a girl from the i.o.w in israel who said she knew razzle a bit.said the same as you.have you saw the new york dolls since their reformation?
Got to admit, I haven't mate - any good? Kind of thought it wouldn't be the same without JT.
yes mate.i know what you mean though.a mate felt the same so didn,t go either.they have matured well.i was hoping they wouldn,t try to be all 1970,s ,you know like a bad drag act  they have energy to burn though.class act.suppose cos i never saw them before and only saw thunders off his trolley it never accured to me not to see them..j.t still the king though :D i love slyvain ,underated to the hilt.dave jo and killer kane were both clean and sober.a.k became a mormon .his death came after the two london gigs.his wish was to reunite the dolls who were left so it was a task done on that score .god bless the dolls

Thanks for the update - they should have been huge. I think if they had been based in London in 1976 they would have been bigger than the Pistols but really they just missed the boat. I think McClaren saw that in them as manager but couldn't deal with the egos or the fact that they liked to use substances...

Great thread. been going to concerts, shows and festivals every year since the 70's. Been everywhere from Brecon theatre to Madison square garden. Got to say most of the 'big' acts are what you expect them to be, and in a way this almost turns the event into an anti climax. Its the smaller shows and the lesser know acts that have been the best. Most recently the Fleet foxes and Gaslight anthem have been brilliant

i reckon when billy murcia died in london before their first album came out it was the wake up call.by the time the second album came out they were on the back foot.the record industry doesn,t like real deaths and real drug addicts/alcoholics.out of the 5 who made those 2 albums only sylvain wasn,t either a junkie or alki.tbf he did a passable impersonation  tbh by the time maccleren had them i think they were washed up.wearing red leather and posing with comi flags in a 1975 america which was having kids return home in body bags from vietnam to me isn,t the best idea.not good managrment in my eyes.i,m not sure if in 76 they would have rivalled the pistols in london.the pistols were a very british thing.right time right place.the dolls were mercury,s number 1 new act in 72/73.they should have had the dollar spent on them .as they crashed from one car crash to another a band who were in their shadows came and took centre stage.that band was aerosmith.the pistols in their pomp or the dolls in their pomp?only one winner.the lads from new york .not even close.the pistols loved em then slagged them(rotton).like you said j.t schooled em on london boys.
