And really? Can you really call labour incompetent after what this shambles of a government has done to this country?
No need to be nasty BB, I have a different opinion. I grew up in Wales during the sixties/seventies, had an excellent education thanks to the teachers rather than the state, hard but fair. Worked on the A470 bypass during the miners strike so know a bit about that era, yes I've used jack hammers on limestone trying to dig out a 450 by 450mm hole 1.2m deep when its freezing cold and pissing down day after day. Do I still do that? No, I got off my f*cking arse, threw off the shackles of left wing bollox and went out into the big wide world, well, Hereford. Trained up as a Technician with Welsh Water, did an ONC part time, resigned and went to Polytechnic got myself a degree in Civil Engineering. Came back to Wales, saw f**k all had changed so moved to london in around 1986, had several jobs. I now advise governments on Infrastructure Investment throughout the former Socialist countries but have never forgotten my roots. A wankstain I may be but at least I have my own mind.
I thought we were a bit lucky tonight although I was listening to CC Player.

Was that supposed to impress? Us Valley boys crack limestone with our butt cheeks. Jack hammer??? You pussy. Next you'll be bragging about smashing bubble wrap with a sledge hammer.Fcuking tory boys are all the same.
Nope, why would I try to impress you? Simple things, workers work did in the olden days, well seventies/eighties, a few men from Merthyr who were men and wanted to work, 50 quid a cash in hand. The valley miners? Where were they? The odd one or two who wanted to work were the lowest level of the left wing union lot, the outcast as they had their own minds. And then what happened? From nowhere a dozen or so thugs turn up and frighten the working men off.
Ah blame it on the tory boys? May I suggest that one opens one's mind. In life there are two certainties, yer born and yer die whatever happens in between is your choice. Whatever you do is your choice may go well may go tits up but that is down to you. We have but one life, its yours its only f*cking thing you'll ever get for free, use it.

Sorry Willy but your problem is you like to think you are something you are not. You left Wales looking for this bigger better thing and deep down if you continue to follow the politics of the masses here in Wales then it says to you that you are are the same old. You only do the Tory thing because you want to convince youeself you are better then you were and better than everyone one esle here. Truth is though you are still the same person.
Do you honestly think the the PLU (People Like Us) Tories will accept you as one of them? No of course not. You are just another scum bag like everyone else who they can milk. Yes they'll throw you a few scraps off their table to keep you thinking you are getting something and they'll try to make you feel you are slightly better than everyone else. They have to do that to convince you to continue voting them in. And believing it, you have to vote Tory otherwise you are telling yourself you are not better and all your efforts in life has been wasted. There's only a handfull of PLU's, no where near enough to vote themselves in, so they have to feed the mungrels to keep them on side. What's the saying that PLU's have about "convince a simple man"?

Willy, I also grew up in that era as a kid. My fathers business closed due to the knock on effect of the mine closures. You were lucky to be able to move and get educated and jobs elsewhere, the truth is that's much harder when you've got a family, 3 kids and a house in Wales with negative equity.
Most people I know, on reflection, are happy that the pit wasn't the only option when we left school and college. I surely am although options were limited due to lack of investment into other industries. The pits were dangerous and took years off your life - in addition the world was moving away from coal based energy. No one disagrees that Wales needed to move on from an economy based on mining. However what Thatcher did was a disgrace, she didn't care about succession planning or migrating the industry from the pits to other more sustainable and cleaner industries. It was short sighted and she didn't care one bit for the common working class families who were affected by the closures. She was a lunatic who had forgotten her working class background and lost total empathy for the working man and woman.
To properly migrate from a mining based economy to an economy with more options should have taken 20 years of planning and investment.... Thatcher did nothing apart from close the pits and leave 1000's in poverty, as PROVED by your story about having to move yourself away from your friends and family. You did it but shouldn't have been forced to. 1000's of people didn't get the opportunities you did because they were not in a position to do so.
