Small fry compared to what Liverpool paid for Carroll to sit on their bench.

If there is £3m then £2m on a striker and £1m on a full back I would go for.

The only way we'll get Austin is by buying him in January - not loaning him as some have ludicrously suggested - and even then, it's unlikely that Burnley will let him go and if we've only £3m left to spend then we definitely won't get him.

I don't think austin would come to us. If he's going to move he's going up a division.

And really don't think wickham would improve the team, might improve the squad but not the team.

I haven't seen loads of wickham but when I have I've felt let down.

Austin in January would depend on where we are I think. If a prem club don't come in (i don't think they would risk it in jan) then he may join us but we would need more than the 3m

I know what you mean on wickham, i always heard good stuff and saw a good record, but always felt there must have been a reason clubs werent clambering after him. I mean the top teams in the prem would surely had taken him when he was at ipswich...

Not seen much of Austin, but looks like a non stop scorer, but never a target man is he?

Does anyone know much about this kid at Port Vale who is scoring for fun??

If we're going to get a youngster. I'd try and sneak Jake Cassidy from Wolves. At Tranmere
on loan at the moment. He's scored 12 goals in 18 games for them. Before that he had never
played a competitive game above the level of Welsh Alliance League in North Wales where
he scored 28 goals in 32 games aged 15/16.

He's my mates son and I've got this sneaking suspicion that when he finishes his loan spell at
Tranmere in January, Wolves will take him back and he's going to be a revelation for them.

..and not us :(

With all the best will in the world,i simply cant see Mackay bringing in one more signing, never mind two,i hope he proves me wrong, because it would be nice to see a City manager building from a position of strength instead of necessity for a change

May be Etien Velikonja and Kim Bo-Kyung are already January signings of a sort? By then they should be more used to the Championship and very fresh after playing only bit parts up until then.

As the season takes it toll on some of our players these 2 could effortlessly step in.

all i'm saying is that i dont think big money needs to be spent, maybe 2 or 3 loans or cheap signings for backup, he's spend large amounts of money and i think footballs a bit more complex than 'spend x amount of money and we'll go up'.

I was not a great advocate of CB39 coming back. But I think thats a little unfair.

He played 2 games in 5 days and was instrumental in both wins, the slightest tear could
see him miss weeks. Resting him against Ipswich made common sense. Notts Forest is a
very big game. They will be mortified to see him on that pitch full of running

Nobody knows on here if the slovian is ready for english football yet. His first year is a free year for him to get used to english football.

Defo need one or two more in defence. 5 + 2 kids is not enough to cover 4 positions.

Midfield = stacks of various options.

Attack = Like to see us sign another striker from a position of strength in January.

who is going to want to come here to sit on the bench? thats the issue when it comes to defenders.... managers dont tinker with a settled back 4, nor should they

Well its lucky Matt Conolly didnt have that attitude or we would only have 4 senior defenders in the squad.

He come with a positive attitude and belief in his own ability, he waited for his chance, he took his chance.

big difference!

we are now full swing into the season and people are talking specifically about cover defenders. if we know that then so do players agents.

Well I'm sure I heard it somewhere. Anyway, it'd probably take more than £5m to buy him!

agree with this, but would also like to see what velikonja can offer.. surely more than rudy... i really think he is awful and not upto this level.. he needs a run of games and think league 1 would be ideal loan move for rudy .. it could benefit him and the club and come back a better player.

I want to know why Velikonja is not getting any game time, we were 3-0 up against Blackpool with 30-20 mins left, i thought would be a great chance to give him a run out

The greatest come back team in the English leagues, I never felt comfortable until the whistle went and we were dominating.

Other games I don't understand either.

Couldn't agree more. The teams who were around the top two in January spent to strengthen their squads - Newcastle and West Ham spring to mind in recent seasons. We have to be in the top three of four at the turn of the New Year - then Mr Tan can hopefully get the cheque book and and REALLY turn the screw on our promotion rivals.

I think one defender. A full back. Lets face it, we can all see that we are not at our
strongest out there. So could a would-be signing. He'd fancy his chances of getting
a start for a very very good side.

Midfielder?.... erm.... naaaaaaah. We aint to shabby there

A striker? Well unless Etien is the best kept secret in Wales, I think we need
cover there!!!

Money? Well we'd only need to spend about 2 or 3 mil tops

If Malky wants - Malky will get. No doubt about that at all!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Malky did not have the strength in depth last season, that`s why he said whoever signs in January will get promoted. This season we have the strength in depth, people on here are never satisfied. We have quality right through the squad,, and like to twist Malky`s words, also they like to think they know better than him ! Hudson does blow hot and cold ! He made mistakes at Bristol City. Hudson can be slow and hoof the ball anywhere and go to sleep, and make rash decisions. On the other hand, he then seems to learn from his mistakes and then has had a good game. But there are better out there than Hudson so in that way we could strenghen., Hudson needs competition for his place, and maybe that would cut down on some of his mistakes, my opinion of course. :o

I think there was a reason why we didn't spend in January. I still honestly believe VT wanted us to fail last season so he could justify rebranding us this season with our new "lucky" red kit. I know Malky said he missed out with Noone and Sordell, but I feel if he was backed with a few million back in January like he was this summer, he would have brought the extra few players in to boost our squad. This summer for example, Malky pulls the plug with Richard Keogh and signed Matt Connolly instead. Malky missed out with Sigurdsson to Wolves so got Maynard instead. I honestly feel Malky wasn't backed in January, and that's because VT wanted to rebrand us. Surely VT couldn't have rebranded us if we reached the Premiership in blue could he? My opinion is at the end of the day, VT had the money to back Malky back in January and it seemed he chose not to. We would probably be in the Premiership now if VT REALLY wanted us to go up last season.
