Tomorrow for me my 5th FA Cup match of the season Didcot vs Maidenhead then home to watch the match.

In the good old days a load from Ely and Caerau would jump in the good old ford transit and go.. Easily 20plus in the back.. With a bucket for the piss in the corner... All that's gone. It's steadily been going down hill since then, they don't want us, they want family's.
Why go to be stuck in the middle of no where to wait to get in. Out of the 20 or so Ely I went with only 4 have season tickets this time round, most are waiting to wait until jan before getting a mid season ticket.
It's not the same any more, only Reading has been a good buzz for me.. Meeting up in theale for a few before the game. Now we can't do f**k all away really, I know we may have taken the piss a bit before bit those days are long gone.
I prefer the away games with Wales but the way they are going I think I will just go on the lash when I'm away with them.

For what it costs to follow city, I can give my kids a great day out. Miss 8 away games and go away with Wales for 3 nights with good friends and have a great time... Until things change and attitudes I know what I prefer.

I've always followed city home and away but even at home it's all changed for me. I wish Wales were doing better so a few more would travel away. Great times in Finland and Czech republic even the play off in Italy had its moments.

I think the uk as a whole must have less 16 - 21 years olds at the mo than what there were when we were that age cos I don't see many that age going away.

It's not the same down the city no more, our biggest mistake was moving I think, Ninian park was probably one of the greatest grounds in the world for atmosphere and making the visitors unwelcome, the only good thing about the CCS is the room, other than that it's shit.

I think another problem is that we have been in this division for 10th years.
People who have been to ipswich 3 or 4 times will give it a miss.

I know that i am already planning blackburn and bolton because they will be new grounds for me

A lot of it has to do with the re brand otherwise why would home crowds be down too. Christ Birmingham city is a very attractive fixture you tiny say the attendance was 21k but i bet there are many season tickets holders are not going yet their ticket is still counted. I would happily go to several away this season but to be honest im not interested

Birmingham City an attractive fixture?

Nah mate.

Maybe 7-8 years ago, but not now, same as Wolves, Notts Forrest, West Brom, Leicester, Leeds and on and on and on.

We have played the, on a conveyor belt constantly the last 10 years and people are bored of it now.

10 years in the same division is the problem as pointed above.

Maybe a stint in league 2 is the answer...

That's the true case for lot's of us, I am fed up of going to shitty Ipswich, it like a hick town and takes forever, you wait for Bolton and Blackburn, been to them both, but a few years back now, The last Blackburn game must have been seven years ago, night match in the cup, I have never seen so many drunk City fans in my life.

I remember the Colchester Friday night game incredible the numbers we took and went top of the league. We went in a HALO van hire from Blackwood everyone right lashed up , 1 lad went awol after the game we went to Colchester and he hadnt been nicked didnt have mobile's then after 1 hour driving around group decision to head home. The lad had only jumped onto a bus from Barry and was dropped off in Newport and home hours before us :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Wait till Bolton in month or two I think despite late kick off I think we will take a good crowd there and extra drinking time :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The costs now are defo putting fans off and I feel why numbers are down.

Bolton will be a top turnout mate.

Loads of lads going up there.

There's a few factors for me, cost is a big issue as my disposable income is down, secondly new stadiums leave me stone cold, there used to be a time when visiting away grounds was unique & they all had their own identity but now they all look the same only the colour of seats change.Thirdly the football seems to have gone stale, i don't know if it"s all to familiar playing the same old sides or natural flair has been coached out of the players & they all play the same style, good technical players but boring. It's strange but i really used to enjoy the trips to the likes of Barnet & Torquay more.

Like myself an awful lot of lads from the valleys loved going away with the RAMS. I and a few of my mates went away regularly by car or on the CCSC coaches before the inception of the RAMS and normally us 'Valley' boys would be few and far between at away games. Skip forward a few years and At its peak we were filling one coach with lads from just Bargoed and Blackwood, 2 small towns in the Rhymney Valley.
This was the case up and down all the valleys then.
I and many others lost the bug of going to away games when the RAMS stopped, it just wasn't the same anymore.
Yes, there are many other valid reasons which have already been pointed out in this thread which could explain our falling away support but in the valleys when the RAMS stopped our away support dwindled considerably!

Its more than just the rebranding in my opinion, of course some of the blame lies with it, but I honestly believe it is more than just the rebranding.

Were taking less than 400 fans to Ipswich, WE are top of the league, yes its live, but its on a Saturday, Vince Alm has to even virtually beg fans to go.

I will just say this, Ive been to Colchester 25 mins from Ipswich, with 1,500 Cardiff fans on a Friday night Division 4,I went to Colchester on a Saturday Div 3 with approx 1,600 Cardiff fans and in the Carling Cup 1st or 2nd rd on midweek night game with just under 400 Cardiff fans. We are now top of the Championship on our way to the Premiership, I am not going tomorrow. I now go when I feel like it, before it was like a drug following Cardiff for over 40 years, I followed City the length and breath of the country, Darlington and Hartlepool, approx 7 times each Ive been there with Cardiff and we took 1,500 to places like there.

Dont get me wrong when we were 2nd from bottom of Division 4, Ive been away with 11 City fans to Gillingham and 50 to Preston on night games. But were now top of the Championship.

Up to everyone to make their own opinions.
Little Blackpool brought over 550 fans to us last week, a long long way.

Just a quick comment.
Before the rebranding we lost a lot of old faces.
There were recessions in the late 80's & 90's.

Personally the biggest blame is football has out priced its self and the buzz has gone for many fans, just my opinion.

Society has changed, not just football. I know some people find it hard to believe, but it is quite acceptable in this day and age to spend time with your family at a weekend. People have other things to do and other ways of spending their leisure time.

A day trip to Ipswich is going to take a huge chunk out of your weekend - basically all day Saturday and not back till the wee small hours of Sunday morning. If you work (and working people are the only ones who can afford to go regularly anyway), then the thought of spending a large chunk of your weekend on the motorway is not exactly something to look forward to.

I'm pretty sure its our furthest away trip this year. The game is live on SKY, and we have a worse record against Ipswich in recent years than just about any other team. Add in the general economic situation and I think 400 is pretty good.

Too expensive for us to go to all the away game. As my boys are in school/college and me and the wife work we can only go to the Saturday away games and we have to pick and choose.

Been to Palace/Bristol and going to Forest but Ipswich will be missed - cant afford them all.

Was thinking of going to leeds next year but I have been told that they charge £60 a head - is that right?

Unfortunately it's another myth that Cardiff had big away support, what we used to have for disproportionate away support, Back in the 80s and 90s when we were getting home crowds between 4 and 6 thousand, we would regularly take between 500 and 2000 away the next week, which was a huge proportion of the home attendance we were getting. We now will take up to 3000, but as a proportion of the 21k home attendance it would understandably seem like a low away following, in comparison to back in the day.

The clubs/football league needs to do more to encourage away support.
