He should be allowed to just concentrate on playing without the burden of captaincy which should be given to a more senior player.
So you think Williams an English should be?
Williams turns up for every game even when carrying an injury unlike some. He is committed to the cause so why not?
He has also been captain of a Premier League side for the last year and a bit so is surely the most qualified in the squad to take the armband?
No he is English

I disagree that it should mean he should not be captain purely because he is English. It should be the best man for the job.

Couldn't disagree more.
Welsh captain is a privileged position for a proud Welshman.

Williams is proud to represent Wales. The fact that he was not born in the country (something he had no control over) should have no relevance.

Yeah let's give the captaincy to Gareth bale, possibly the quietest timid footballer on the planet... He can do step overs though.
Ffs the chip you guys have on your shoulders regarding the jacks is embarrassing, it was clear to see as soon as he got the job. Some of you would rather Damon searle as manager, andy legg as captain and Danny gabbidon as coach.... Regardless of results.
It's Wales not Cardiff. Grow up and support the side or go and support England.

f**k off you clown........... ramsey is a key player in the middle for wales with another 10 yrs to go, he also did well under speed..
why not give it to allen then and use him to do the same thing and build for the future... appointing ashley williams is the wrong answer.. he could easily have given it to james collins, or david vaughan, dave edwards...
the fact that coleman and co. are stern swansea fans shows they favour the under performing english born swansea player.
after we get beat by scotland and the campaign evaporates lets see how pleased you are then with your national failure of a coach and his new captain...

A captain should be welsh IMO - no doubt.
Really he shouldn't be in the squad your right but the job of captain of any country surely has to be from that country? That's has to be a minimal requirement then it's the best man for the job.

The fact you think Williams is under performing and in the same breathe say he could have given it to Collins makes me believe your bias holds no bounds![]()
Fine choice as captain. If he's welsh enough to play for us he's welsh enough to captain us. Simple.

Absolute tripe.
If he's in the welsh team then he's as welsh as everyone else. Do you honestly think when he tells the defensive line to move up they think "if he was welsh I would, but coz he's English I ain't gonna bother"![]()
Some of you really are amazing.

quote from west ham football writer...
"Great to Have Collins Back
The superb victory at Queens Park Rangers, which elevated West Ham to seventh in the Premier League, prompted praise for the likes of Kevin Nolan, Mark Noble and goalscorers Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te. But my man of the match and, indeed, my signing of the season so far was James Collins"
williams is not performing well this season and you are blinkered if you believe he is.

ashley williams " “It’s not been great,” said Williams.
“I’ve been making a few mistakes and conceding goals personally.
