I'm not one to have a go, but I am absolutely flabbergasted Helguson is getting stick from so many tonight. You do realise he set up our winning goal don't you?

I dont rate him all he does in my eyes is lay the ball off theres many of strikers who can do that, opinions is what its all about

Many target men can TRY to lay the ball off. The difference is Helguson DOES lay the ball off. When the ball is played up to a striker, you want the striker to use his strength to hold the defender off and either head it to a fellow player, or bring the ball down with a good touch while under pressure from the opposing defender and still be able to retain possession. Helguson does this brilliantly and gives time for our attacking players to receive the ball from him in dangerous positions. Lesser players might get outmuscled, take up the wrong position to receive the ball or would fail to be able to bring the ball down and retain possession, but helguson doesn't. Next time you watch us and see us creating chances, watch Helguson a bit more closer and you'll see the reason we have got into the attacking position in the first place to create the chance was because Helguson put himself about, flicked the ball on, held the ball up, linked the play etc. Even if Helguson doesn't win a header, which is very rare, he still puts the defender off to give a weak header clear. Helguson is heavily involved in starting all our attacking play and as I've said, I honestly don't think the Bellamy's, Noone's, Mason's etc would look as dangerous without Helguson in the team doing his job.

nobody said he had,what i said was he is a different type of player,taarabt was as valuable to qpr as bellamy is to us,and i think that helgurson needs to be more involved,i understand that he is not a bellamy,but all to often adding nothing to the game....

sorry,but taarabt a completley different player

Of course he is he can do more than lay the ball off, he can run with it, take people on, turn away from players, score from nothing positions plus many other things in my eyes which are all the things helguson can not do, thats why i never went on about it, just opinions on players is where we all differ

Thanks Craig. The point I'm making is the main reason Taarabt was able to perform so well for QPR was because he had Helguson playing in front of him! Helguson was largely responsible for Taarabt getting into all the dangerous positions just outside the box to create and score.

He did better than well. The man is a beast.

If he does not win the ball he for sure makes the defenders job very hard.

Without him and payers like Hudson ths team would not be where they are now.

Thanks Krabb, I hope if you watch him more closely next time you will see what I see and appreciate what he does. Fair play to you for giving him a chance and not totally dismissing him like the others who are slating him.

You need a Helguson if you're playing two up front. You need one even more in a 4-5-1.

Back to goal, keep it simple, use your body well, good first touch, hold the ball up and lay it off.

Ideally, you have a striker who can do all that and also has a bit of pace and trickery but how many of those are there? How many in the championship? Enough to count on one hand? Maybe.

Gestede is a fail. His touch isn't there and he doesn't use his body well enough (yet). Velikonja is an unknown quantity. Maynard is done. So who else do we play there?

No choice lads. Helguson will be there until we get someone else in on loan or in January.

So you're having a go at me because I don't agree with you, then moan about people having different view points?

I agree that Helguson does play an important part of our team and his ability to bring others into play is good.
However, I do think playing him for more than an hour is a mistake. The guy looks fooked. I personally would like to see City 2nd half keep the ball on the deck and bring on Etien to keep their cb's turning.
My only fear about Helguson is he's not much of a goal threat himself. He's not going to bag 20+ goals a season. Shouldn't all good strikers be able to link up play AND score a few?
When we play hoofball, then Helguson or Gestede will do ok. Pass and move... Joe Mason or Etien Velikonja every time for me.

Mark my words, if Helguson gets injured for a few games, those of you slating him will be begging for him to come back when we stop getting into the attacking positions Helguson puts us in. Without Helguson, the ball won't be held up as much and every long ball hit forwards (I lost count how many we played today) will be coming straight back at us!

Helgusons job is to drag defenders into wars. To create space. To slow play
down up the top of the pitch long enough for supporting players to arrive.
So we end up with more options.

one major diff last night.you knocked it into h.h .it stuck one way or another.we knocked it into lita and a lot of the time it didn,h.h or a player of that ilk is paramont to how you set up to play.other players have time to join the attacks as he looks after the ball till they get closer.strong player
