I remember the old riots in tottenham when the copper was hacked to death they suspended the football at The Lane for 3 wks as they feared it would kick off again

Well I blame Thatcher of course!!! :D

Seriously. When I was a kid if you left school with nothing to do then they sent you down the pit. There were no chavs hanging about then looking to get in to trouble. After a shift shovelling coal they were too fcuked to hang about wonderring the streets.
Reopen the pits I say, send them all down there and keep them there until they learn a bit of respect.

lads who were say less academic often went down the mines round here.tbf by 1980 some lads who had good qualifications did too as jobs were becoming harder to find.even amongst people who work these days the work is a lot easier physically so men are not burning off aggression like they used to.i reckon they should re open the mines.it would solve some of our job issues plus we wouldn,t be involved in wars for oil in countries we shouldn,t be in.

I'm a leftie...and I really can't see why the UK left doesn't want to adress the problems in your country. Labour has made a complete mess of these issues.

Immigration on itself isn't a bad thing. If people come in from abroad in small numbers and spread over the country, there're practically forced to become part of the existing community. And that's a good thing: people, regardless of their religion or colour, assimilate. So they become British.

But the UK has absolutely been flooded with immigrants the past decades. The UK has handled immigrants before, but those immigrants became a part of British society. The current vast numbers of immigrants, or their children, are forming nothing less than an extension of their home country. In that way you get large deprived parts of the big city's with a lot of unemployment and crime...combine that with a culture of tribal feelings and you get your riots...

To prevent these kind of things from ever happening again, the following should happen:

1. Close your borders. In order to take care of the current problems, you should stop letting vast numbers of new people in. First sort out the mess in the inner city's and then you can perhaps let new people come in again.

2. Force immigrants to adept western and British values. It's not rightwing to say out loud that the UK simply is better than, for example, Pakistan or Nigeria. Why else would all these people flee to the UK, and not vice versa. Make clear that one may celebrate Pakistani culture, but in Pakistan. Make clear that one may regard jews, christians, homosexuals and women as lesser beings, but in Saudi Arabia and not in Britain.

3. Stop using the word 'racism' for everything. There are quite some people who want to adress certain problems and discuss solutions, by calling them racist, you're not only killing any reasonable debate, but you're downgrading the term. So save it for people like Nick Griffin.

Britain really needs to get beyond the post-colonial sense of guilt. Please take a look at the Danes, the Dutch (yaaaay) and other European countries. Don't let semi-fascists like BNP-members spoil this debate, but let the debate get ruined by the politicially correct mob ether.

But that's just my view on these matters.

Cheers.

A fantastic post, the earlier immigrant into the docks during the 50s and 60s were great people. Hard working and adopted a when in Rome attitude to British life, celebrating their cultures while also putting a Xmas tree up at Christmas even though they don't celebrate it. Nowadays the new lot have come over not looking for work but just to sit on their arse all day courtesy of the British benefits system.

Consumerism, broken family structures, loss of morals and welfare dependancy mainly.
