4-5-1 is fine but it has to be used better. Bellamy needs to be given more freedom and someone on the otherwise who can attack (not cowie)

Far too defensive Annis, always has been..

Now with the players at his disposal I as hoping for a flexible interchangeable line up. This business of a lone striker
is nonsense unless the wide men and full backs are really bombing on.

I would have started with Mason just behind Helgar, his movement off the ball is special, as witnessed for the goal
on Friday. Cowie is odd man out for me, and Whitts needs to play further forward. :ayatollah:

Agree with Steve Davies here. I too was bemused with the system and starting line up after the impressive display v Newcastle. Craig Conway was man of the match that day and unless he has a slight knock as someone has pointed out above then he has right to feel aggrieved at not making the starting eleven. I'm not one to over-react after one game though and unlike last season, this time Malky has a proper squad (with more to come) and it's exciting that he has the chance to adapt with different options and systems. Craig Bellamy isn't going to play every game, which could actually be a blessing in disguise. Malky has the players at his disposal this time though and he'll know how to get the best out of them. Don't judge us on the opening game - Huddersfield were always going to be difficult. Roll on Brighton

I am happy at whatever formation and team Malky picks for every game.

In Malky I Trust :ayatollah:

It is one game yes ! The point is that Malky has been in place long enough to have left his mark on the formation & the players he's recruited to play within that formation- X2 PRE-SEASON TRANSFER WINDOWS PLUS ONE IN JANUARY WITH MONEY IN HIS POCKET WE'RE LED TO BELIEVE - no excuses of inheriting a threadbare squad as last season. I still think we need to introduce more width into our gameplan from both those already onboard ( Malky's team & formation ! ) and further signings , in addition to a striker better than those we already have - thought HH did a good job Friday and was our best outfield player for me - However , we need to strengthen at the back too , true we kept a clean sheet with Marshall outstanding , but I think KMs time is fast approaching and I don't feel either MH/BT is mobile enough for them to play together as a duo . This farkin hoofball from the CBs need to stop too. :ayatollah:

Under DJ "How come we only play 4-4-2 and never 4-3-3???? :'( :'( :'("

Under MM "How come we only play 4-3-3 and never 4-4-2???? :'( :'( :'("

Honestly you lot lack some balls.

Our defence is pretty bad, Taylor isn't great defensively, Turner and Hudson although both strong, tactically aware and great individually lack mobility like a hole in the head and McNaughton is going through a serious blip in form. The team cannot afford to beto open and expansive because defensively we are woeful. So Malky makes us hard to beat.

Better than Dave Jones who would try the same thing a billion times and expect different results (the definition of insanity no less). Remember this game:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16331453 (which was 4-4-2)

In my opinion the best performance under Malky, you think he watched that and though "f**k that I don't want to play that way" its obvious thats the goal with players like Kim, Bellamy, Mutch and Veli coming in, you can see the goal is better football. But we need a more solid defence at the back.

Not really...especially when he doeasn't change tactics until it's too late. On friday it was calling out for Mason and Kiss to replace Cowie (who was virtually redundant on the RW) and Mutch (who is not match fit) but it should have taken place on the hour...not with 10 or 15s mins to go!! Mason makes things happen. He runs with the ball at his feet, he twists and turns and is an all round handful for defenders. Mason should definitely start at home IMO. Hudderfield did their homework on us. They got behind the ball and pressed us as soon as we had the ball which more ofter than not resulted in our two CBs hoofing the ball towards Helguson who had a defender in front and behind him every time he jumped for the ball. This happened for nearly the entire game as did the doubling up on Bellamy. IMO Bellers should have drifted inside or even up front much more often. Push Whitts further forward to slide some short balls for Bellers to run onto. If Malky didn't instruct them they are experienced enough to do it themselves...surely? We made things too easy for Huddersfield...we didn't shake things up enough mid game. :ayatollah:

442 is very rarely used by many teams in britain and the world these days we just need our wide players to support the lone striker more often.

i can toleriate 451 aslong as it aint hoofball and we actually use the wingers :ayatollah: ive played alot of sunday football and my old team which i left for the new season does the exact hoofball and it pissed me off, i play left wing aswell and its frustraing when its hoofed by the centre backs and you give ball straight back to the other team.

i think I'll wait and give it time. I can understand the formation Friday in light of it being the first home game of the season against a newly promoted team with a lot of pressure and high expectations on City. also on top of this Huddersfield played the same formation so we just matched them so that we wouldn't get outnumbered in midfield in light of the occasssion.

Wolves might see us play something similar due to their immediate history as being a relegated prem team. Though as the saying goes, fortune favours the brave!
