the problem is to build from the back and play through midfield you need defenders who can a) bring the ball out comfortably, b) pass the ball confidently.

We haven't got either a or b. Which is why Whitts comes so deep to get it off them. He in turn can't pick a through ball from just in front of our back 4 - so he tries the hollywood. And if he doesn't then Turner does and he has even less success.

Malky has some serious work to do if he wants us to get the ball down and play.

As always last season & again tonight, Taylor was murdered - but that's because he can't defend. Put him left mid and I reckon he could do a job but defensively he is woeful. He backs off & backs off because he knows if he goes to the player and get's skinned he has not got the recovery powers Kev has.

However where Kev is solid at the back - he will never EVER be an outlet going forward. I had people behind me saying play Kev in as he had so much room down the right in the second half. They obvioulsy don't come much as if they did they would realise he has so much room down the right every game. Reason is teams ALLOW IT! They know he can run 80 yards but as soon as he get's within 25 yards of the opposition penalty area they are in no danger whatsoever!!!

Kimbo with a bit of luck will be able to get behind the full backs when he arrives, but all in all we didn't look any different to last season. A couple of different players yes, a new ugly boring shoddy kit yes, but same old same old. The opposition put 10 men behind the ball knowing we have Whitts too deep to pick a pass that will unlock anything.

But we won. Which is why I'd rather be lucky if we aren't going to be great! :ayatollah:

hopefully we can get kimbo in by then as he likes to play football and isnt afraid to beat a man....

Will make no diffrence who we have in midfiled mate if we are going to smash it past them all, tonight it looked like we had 5 center midfielders all in eachothers spitting range at times it was really bizarre and it looked the exact same as the back half of last season also :ayatollah:

i agree, someone has to take charge though and come looking for the ball, unfortunately , its normally whitts who is back at the end of our box and cant do anything with it so gives back to hudson to turner and so on..

as good as turner and hudson are defensively they are too similar and we need someone who can also play from the back, i dont think any of our back 4 are capable of this...

wasnt a great game for city. Huddersfield were all over us. far too many shots against us and nothing much from us, but luckily Marshall was on form. Need to learn from tonights game. We got the 3pts though , thats what counts. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Not a great performance from us 3 points in the bag, onward and up would. I rather build up than run dry has we done last few season. Plenty to build on the team so get adjusted to each other, but same for other teams. This year hopfully its going be our red or blue. But always blue in my heart. Well done.

can you think of 1 occassion where the diagonal hoof has actually found the feet of whoever is wide right, because in 39 appearances i cant remember 1!! there are more ball marks on the advertising boards from turner and kev than anyone...

its cringeworthy at times and really frustrating... im not mocking his defending, but his distrubution needs a series routine...

There could be some class captions from that pic.

Turner looks like he's just soiled his pants and Mason is giving it 'go on son'.

The others are closing in for a better look

This ^^^

I'm optimistic that the players will gel over the next 5-6 games but I'd rather a slow start and momentum build as the season progresses than fly out of the blocks and hit a wall in the new year as we did last season.

Plenty of room for improvement, but plenty of time as well. (In my opinion).

Looking at the highlights on ssn, we looked the better side mind. It reminded me of a game we would of lost under dave jones!

As much as i didnt like DJ atleast he played some attacking flowing football i have yet to see any from MM since hes been here, only hoofball and hope more than anything else is all i seem to get to watch when we play 4-5-1 these days even worse when we are at home playing it after playing 4-4-2 all pre season ffs nothings changed at all since the end of jan last season :ayatollah:

The stadiums atmosphere was terrible because the players didnt preform on the field. It took the last 10 minutes for the crowd to pick up the atmosphere because we started to pick up our game. If the players preform well on the pitch the atmosphere gets better. :ayatollah:

Tonight was always going to be tough. I will take 3 points especially as I think Marshall done some great saves and was my man of the match. It took us about 70 mins for them to produce their first save. For all our possession, I still think we need a stronger midfield to link up with our strikers, like your Aaron Ramsey type player and alway we need to strengthen in defence as we didnt look strong there tonight and Huddersfield could have scored at least 3 if it wasnt for Marshall.

3 points thats all that cares :ayatollah:

Could have fooled me against Newcastle's premier league defence last week.

Took us 30 minutes to tear them a new one!
I put it down to nerves - the performances are not far away.... Kim Bo is coming ;-)

We also played 4-4-2 vs newcastle :ayatollah:

No we didn't :?

I agree with Annis....Catching Cardiff, very confident after the great off-season and positive press. It reminded me of last years match against Brighton, except the ball did not bounce right for Huddersfield.

A win is a win.

I totally agree with forever blue, I watched west ham, reading and Southampton all play shit in certain games last year only to scrap a win with a lucky goal. We are one of the favourites this year so teams will be right up for it playing against us at home! I'd take playing shit and winning all our home games 1-0! Some people think we are brazil and pit far too much pressure on our team and people's expectations are too high!!

Thanks.

Spot on.

Tricky first game, rusty from no competitive games since May, new players yet to gel, tense atmosphere from all the summer goings on, yet city still pushed right till then end and snuck a win.....just think what we'll do when we play to our potential

Re: You have to admit

Not a good game we kept playing long ball tactics wich was not working from the start but we kept at at it and got the points goal keeper man of the match kept us in the game :ayatollah:

Winning ugly at the start of a season is ok by me. It's 3 points on the board and thats what matters at the end of the season . The pretty football will come later on as our boys begin to gel. 3 points? yes please, all day long :ayatollah:
