Not in this instance mate it really was much better back then.
The atmosphere couldn't have been much worse to be fair. One bonus is it's a better environment for familes/kids at the CCS, not that that matters to most fans like yourself.

Football to him was all about the good old days of 100,000+ jammed into Hampden Park, or getting a train through to Ibrox, not the so called football that I was going along to watch. The sad bit was that he fell away from the game that he clearly loved back in the day, and started going along to watch the Whites play rugby more and more.
So, to him, the 80's was modern football and unrecognisable to the sport he grew up with in the 50's and 60's, much like I suspect many on here who have been following football for 20 or 30 years don't like everything about the game now.
But I will say this, taking my lad to the football these days is a much safer environment than when I was a kid, there are many things I miss about the Vetch, but without the rose tinted specs on, it was falling down and it was time to move on. Some may disagree, but as I say, all about opinions.
That is a very good post but there are many children, my daughter included, who love and miss the atmosphere that was created at Ninian Park on times and that we experience at away grounds.
My children's safety is paramount but the banter, singing and togetherness when we chant as a full stand is lacking at CCS.

I was working in Cardiff at the time and finished just before kick off. Watched the game in the Irish pub across from the castle, had to stay quiet all the way through the match and then quietly sneaked out at full time.

For one football of old is not all about violence like you are saying.
I know the lads you are referring to and they are tidy lads who remember the days at Ninian Park and you are old enough not to use your wit to take piss like you are doing.
Yes they don't know the 70s 80, or 90s but that does not mean they do not have a opinion and being belittled.
They are against the re brand and all that modern football entails and you Gwyn are out of order sorry mate trying to belittle 18 year olds that according to you should have no opinion on anything as they are youngsters.
Maybe there opinion of us oldies is we should have no opinion because we are nearly senileL

Ninian park was bollox most of the time 1 great atmosphere in 10 games I say on average early 90s when I started most games were dire so we had generate our own fun

How am I belittling them, when all I have done is ask how they can say they area against modern football and that is all they have ever know, I don't think they need me too belittle them.
It would be a bit like me saying I'm against modern transport, but can't remember what is was like when we only had horses.
If they are against modern football, why did they start watching during the modern football era, because it's been around quite a few years now, surely older people who have lived through different eras can make a comparison.
I and many others I'm sure will remember plenty off occasions when I have seen family's caught up in invasions and mini riots with kids screaming and traumatised. Some youngsters have romantic images of what things were like during the old era, if it had been that good at Ninian Park, why were our crowds averaging less than five thousand for such a big part of them.

I maybe wrong but the image you are talking about is the one below? As you commented on it & posted this shortly after. If I'm right then I do find this quite belittling, just because we weren't around doesn't mean we don't have an idea about it. Everyone has a right to have an opinion and I'm certainly not embarrassed about mine.

Gwyn what is your opinion on the first world War ? Oh sorry you can't give one because you wasn't around thenOr was you ?

But even when these Lads first started watching it wasn't about re branding and kissing owners backsides was it. They know the difference and just because of there tender age they do have opinions and are allowed to express them. They are allowed to shag drink go to War so they certainly are allowed a opinion. There are guys out there the same age who are for the re branding, i don't go around saying they don't have an opinion on what they think.

No one is saying you can't have an opinion, even if you never experienced that era, but to say you are against something you obviously love and feel passionate about is strange.
It be like me saying, I hate cheese and onion crisps, but i still eat them all the time! or I hate holidaying in Spain, so I go there three times a year.
If you are against mode football, why not support or attend something you are actually for and like, which era of football do you refer to as post modern, was it the onset of Sky TV, the Bosman ruling or even further back when Jimmy Hill managed to get the maximum wage scrapped for footballers.
If there was no modern football in the UK, do you think our best players would be gracing our pitches, or would they be plying their trade in greener pastures.
If you are against modern football, why not stick to local leagues, serious question, what is it about modern football that is wrong, and was so good in the old days that it changed for the worse in your eyes?

You're clearly missing the point.
Obviously they're not against football itself, but against certain aspects of 'modern' football; namely the power and control that owners possess nowadays (such as VT). Surely you can be against that regardless of age?

Controlling owners are more common nowadays than they were in the eighties, I imagine.

is it just me who thinks that sky run football now.
without their billions over the last 20 years wnere would we be now.
without the prospect of getting to the premier league and earning millions none of the foreign investors including tan would have touched most clubs with a barge pole.
without skys money football at premier league and championship level would struggle to survive
