Went with a mad pub in Canton, didn't have a passport but you could get them at post offices in those days.

Tried to hide in the bogs of the coach but it was already full! so got turfed out at Dover by a customs officer. I made sad eyes and said it was my birthday (I had my birth certificate because I hoped I would have enough time to get it sorted. But because we stopped, it seemed, at every services on the way so the guys could rob them blind we barely made it in time for the Ferry crossing) and fair play the guy took me in his car to Dover town waited for me and arranged for me to go on a hovercraft as my coach and ferry had left.

Somehow managed to catch a train across Belgium and got to the ground before the guys on my coach. There faces when they saw me was pure magic. How the f**k ?!!

Didn't have to buy a drink all the way home - mind you neither did they as we hit the French cash and carrys before heading home.

Working in Sharpe and Fisher builders' merchants in Schooner Way, on the West Dock. Living at home, had more money than I knew what to do with. Following the City, records, clothes etc. Usual stuff. Nothing new under the sun.
