How is this a political debate because for one thing I am not aware of a RepubliXan party.

As I see it OhhGa is exercising his right to freedom of choice and he has decided to spend this weekend revising for his exams, good luck with them by the way.

The very fact the original poster thinks that this weekend of all weekends is an appropriate time to discuss republican views probably goes some way to explaining why, as a poltician, he appears unelectable at any meaningful level. Having said that polling the fewest votes at the latest local elections probably means he is unelectable at any level.

However as a British citizen he has a right, and more importantly a freedom to ask such questions, however in doing so this weekend when the vast majority of Great Britain will celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee is what? Ill advised at best and shows, in my opinion, the same level of judgement as the poll posted on this forum about that young american girl.

OhhGa whatever your political views on the monarchy today, this weekend and indeed any weekend you are free to choose how you spend your time. If that means defending yourself you are wrong because you have nothing to defend yourself against.
