Completely irrelevant remark. I'm suggesting that Councillors should be in it for more than just financial gain. For example, wanting to improve their ward or given area, and represent the views of the people who elected them. Let's be realistic here, most councillors are hardly the best.

You try being on call 24 hours of the day and 7 days a week and not get paid for it. You are living in a dream world if you seriously think people are willing to give up their normal lifestyle just to care for the community.

I simply suggested that Councillors should want to serve their community, improve their area, and implement positive changes for the people whose votes they relied on. All whilst getting paid of course.

If a society in which the majority of Doctors, Nurses, Police Officers, Teachers etc would like to benefit and assist those that they serve is a 'dream world' then so be it; I live in a dream world. However I do not think that it is unrealistic to suggest that those working in such careers choose to for reasons other than money. I know many Teachers who have always wanted to help children for example, I know Police Officers who joined to serve their local community, and I'm sure there are medical professionals who want to help others.

However this idea seems alien to you. Somebody choosing a career for philanthropic and caring reasons? Gosh, impossible! Of course, I'm not disputing certain careers attract more individuals because of money. That's a given. However one must acknowledge that not everyone is as selfish and out-of touch as you are. Vets care for animals, Nurses care for patients, Emergency services care for communities, and you, Mr Brown, care only for yourself.

Having met so many so-called community minded people over the years I have come to one conculsion. The vast majority of them are socialists they smell and have no dress sense and also have no idea of what goes on in todays commercial world or as I like it say 'the real world'.

The outgoing of my wages was £52,000 over 4 years. However I project managed a new shopping centre, new care home and ensured that thousands of people will get refunded rebates for overcharging totalling £11.1 million. So I would think my services were good value for money. Also bear in mind that the overcharging issue went on since the 1980's meaning that many more community minded people before me had the chance to speak out on the issue but low and behold they kept their mouth shut. hmmmmmmm I wonder how really community minded they really were.?

Adding FACT to the end of a statement does not render it as such Mr Brown. The majority of community minded people are, inevitably, very nice people whose outlook should be encouraged. Most people would like to see their local community develop and grow, regardless of political ideology.

Once again that is a matter of opinion, I know people who do not work solely for financial gain. Of course, everyone expects to be paid for their services which is fair. However this does not mean their only reason for entering any given career is financial. I would expect, as most people do, their local Councillor to want to improve their ward and the lives of those they represent above receiving payment. Seems to me that you can't answer my question. Many teachers, dentists, doctors, nurses etc want to go into the private world because they are better off financially that way. Which backs up my point that people always go where the money is

I responded to that point quite clearly. I stated that many people go into such careers with the noble intentions of helping and caring for others. Obviously, people will be attracted by better pay and pensions and move over to the Private-sector, nobody is denying that. What I am suggesting is that this should not undermine their work and the reasons they started out in the first place. Working in the private-sector does not render an individual money-driven, it's just a wise move if the opportunity arises.

You cannot compare this to yourself, as you openly and vehemently admit to being money-driven.
