Can't remember the first but met so many over the years, most of whom have been good memories. Got some good stories too. Born and raised in Caerphilly I remember Earnie playing for Mornington Meadows and GEAS as a kid and through our teens, he used to score for fun. Got to know Dai Thomas as I got older too cos he was mates with a few older lads I knew, he was a good lad Dai and quite a funny and entertaining guy.

Used to see Rhys Weston quite a bit when he played for us cos I worked security for a few years in Next then later HMV and he'd regularly pop in and always have time for a chat, a vey good lad. Also met Kav too whilst working for Next and he gave his missus his bank card and told her to go off and shop cos he was talking. When I apologised and said I'd let him get on he refused and said if it wasn't for us fans buying season tickets and supporting the team etc he wouldn't be where he was. A real genuine and lovely chap who I spoke to for more than half hour, legend.

Me and my mates who I used to stand on the Bob Bank with always used to boo Richard Langley cos he was shit and put in very little effort. I remember one time being out in Lloyds Bar in town several years ago not long after it had opened and he was in there with a few others and one of my mates told him to come over the park with us on Sunday and he'd teach him how to take corners. This in reply to one of Langley's wayward efforts that went straight out of play earlier that day. Needless to say Langley took offence and said some sort of abuse back but we just laughed at him, big headed idiot who believed his own hype. Another time the same mate grabbed Layton Maxwell and playfully put him in a headlock, but he took it well and saw the funny side. Kevin Campbell too another time was in Life on St Mary Street on his own and when we recognised him and started chatting to him he asked if he could sit at our table. He told us plenty of good stories and even bought a round of drinks for us all, top chap. Steve Thompson was a good funny guy too, who I met after we played our last home game of the season. After the match he came out of the players entrance and had the bottom of his trouser legs cut off, courtesy he told me of Robbie Fowler. Thommo vowed to get him back though and we had a laugh about Fowler being a scouser, wearing a shell suit and generally being injured all season.

The best of the lot though is Mark Bonner who was my favourite player back when he played for us, so much so that I got his name and number done on the back of a City shirt. Via Steve Day, who is good mates with him, I managed to get hold of Mark and he agreed to meet me on xmas eve outside the ground the year before last and sign the shirt for me, I spoke for a while with him and it really made my day, and xmas come to think of it. He said I must of been the only person to have his name and number done on the back of a City shirt lol, and I really appreciated him taking time out of his day to come and meet me, especially on xmas eve. :ayatollah: :D :ayatollah:

Gil Reece. He would sometimes come into Sharpe & Fisher builders' merchants on the West Dock in the 70s, where I was working. Him and his brother (Les, I think) had a plumbing business. Always very friendly. Rest in Peace, Gil.

My first League away game was round 1967, Charlton away on the train. On the return journey home we were actually sharing the train amongst others with the Cardiff City team, Toshack, Peter king, Don Murray all the old greats, when we pulled into Cardiff Central, Leighton Phillips who was staying on the train because he lived further down west, called me over gave me half a crown and asked me if i'd run and buy him a football echo.

Well I was made up, a Cardiff City player not only talking to me, but asking me to do him a favour, but also when I got back with the echo and a sweaty brow from running, he let me keep the change, which was as much as my weeks pocket money.

Mind you in them olden times, I was living in a hole in the road and eating gravel for breakfeast and getting up for school an hout before I went to bed after a day in the pit, and you tell the kids and they don't believe you. Actually not only do they not believe you, they say f**k of you big fat old lying tw*t, kids hey, you got to love them.

It was either Brian Walsh or Trevor Ford back around 1961/2

Here is Brian's wiki entry. Hadn't realised that he had died.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Wals ... footballer)

My dad used to insure the City players. Back in those days many players had club houses and Brian had one on St Malo Road in the Heath. We lived in the next street St Ina and my dad took me along one day when he had to do some insurance business.

Trevor Ford used to have a garage in Llandaff North which I think is now the James and Jenkins garage on Station Road/. Again my dad took me along as he had to see Trevor about his insurance.

I also recall him meeting Trevor Morris former City manager then manager of Swansea when I went to one of my first matches when we were still in the old first division.

I had just started to follow football and I remember being really impressed that my dad was on first name terms with them!!

Tarki Micallef whilst City were playing the South Wales Police in a pre-season friendly, and Tarki wasn't playing because he was in plaster, so he stood with us on the sidelines to watch the match...... One of the best moments for me though was getting to drink before and after the Wales - Brazil match many years ago with my hero, Phil Dwyer... and by God can the man drink.... :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
