the family stand as it is, is closed off from the rest of the stadium with the away stand one side and the grandstand the other side. It has been built with families in mind. The Canton stand and the Ninian stand has free access between the two and is a bigger area.
As far as the away end is concerned one side has the Ninian stand and the other the Family stand, we try and place away families on the family stand side and boistrous noisy supporters on the Ninian stand side (though it doesnt always work out that way).
So with families in mind it works and creates a safe environment for families of home and away supporters.
Whether its true or not the club will say that with this set up, arrests at the stadium and match days have gone down and we did win family club of the year with the current set up. Also with the set up police costs for games have gone down with more and more games not requiring police at all or segregation, this would all be lost with the stand changes.
Personally I dont mind and if you are serious about wanting the stands swapped good luck, but this isnt the first time this issue has been raised and people have made steps for change before and have gone quiet after time. Plus the argument will always be if you want an atmosphere produce it yourselves during parts of last nights game the Canton stand was quiet with only a handful of fans chanting with the vast majority just standing. So the argument will be thrown back at you that the loss of atmosphere is down to you at not the stadium set up.
Good Luck though as nothing would give me more pleasure than working at a stadium that was even half of what Ninian Park was capable of producing.

All these problems can be easily overcome. Im in the Canton and would love a move to the family stand. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing the away fans sandwiched between the Canton and Ninian lads. Lets make this happen. :ayatollah:

Re: Wayne Nash

Okay the logistics would be quite hard to sort out.I noticed someone said that in the away end families are put near the Family Stand, that doesn't always work considering i have seen some people 'coined' by opposing fans.
I also read something about the family stand being structured because it is segregated on either side by the Grandstand and a big gate to stop us from getting at eachother, surely this would contain any idiots who tried anything stupid.
I think it would make more sense considering some families are reluctant to buy near the away fans because sitting near the away fans is more 'dangerous' than any other position. If the ends were swapped families would be able to get out quickly and the minor increase in policing cost would be out-ruled by the increase in ticket sales and subsequent profits.
just my opinion

polo,i sit in the family stand....and entirely agree, but the other thing killing the ground are the arsehole stewards....jobsworth pricks many but not all of them :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Agreed. you only have to read Jonny the stewards posts on here they are a bunch of pricks.

Why have a family stand?

leave the little feckers on the bob with all the wankers (early leavers, moaners, non swearers etc etc) and we can have two ends then :old:

Oh dont be so soppy. There wouldnt be any trouble. If people were able to cause trouble they could go next to them in the ninian.

Having home fans either side of the away fans can only improve the atmosphere.

It's already set up like that. :D a bit damning of our new fans who are the future of the club.

We don't need a family stand its gentle everywhere in this stadium.

mr moose wrote:I really don't understand how the club can have a standing singing section on the other side of the stadium to the away fans.
I bought my first ever season ticket today, in 117/116 because I love being close to the away fans, and there the fans stand and sing. Yesterday I was in 114 and it was bums on seats and nothing. Im only 21 but found it rather boring not being able to get animated towards the game there.
Anyway, If you want to have a singing section it needs to be next to the away fans. It would be easier to move the aways fans really, as its only a small section.

It's simple why the family stand is where it is, it reduces Policing costs, that is the only reason.

Season Ticket Holders in the Grandstand near the Away Fans and the Grange End

It was made clear that the club has been told by the Football Licensing Authority that they would not support the granting of a safety certificate for the new stadium if fans demographically similar to those currently on the Grange End and the Grange End side of the Grandstand were allowed similar proximity to away fans in the new stadium. The club recognise the fact that this will disappoint some fans, but believe that there was no alternative to the current configuration of the new stadium.

Therefore, those fans in the Grange End and the section of the Grandstand nearest the Grange End will NOT be allowed to renew their season tickets in areas of the new stadium that are close to the away fans.

Would love to see the swap but this was posted back when the stadium opened! Probably still stands.

I sit in the family stand and absolutely hate it,most kids under 10 spend all game playing on there phones.
I disagree with your statement about moving it though, IMO they should scrap it completely and disperse the 4,000 or so season ticket holders around the around the stadium. They could then do family offers to sit anywhere in the stadium when ticket sales are slow.

I believe the family stand is the main reason there is no atmosphere in the ground.

Well said, no need for it, it's a family stadium anyway.

That's a great idea mate we gotta get this chant goin in The Canton Stand next season and if enough of us are seen and heard makin our feelings known then you never know, something may come of it. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Wayne Nash

Sat May 05, 2012 9:07 pm

The Canton is the noisiest stand and the majority of the fans there will not be moving anywhere soon. Simply because they don't want to. Besides the club will not go back to the days of the Grangend fence with the embarrassing teenies trading insults with the opposition fans while not even watching the game. Just because a few kids have a protest and a rant on an MB it wont change anything.

Re: Wayne Nash

Sat May 05, 2012 9:54 pm

Next season i have a family season ticket but this season I have been touring the ground courtesy of family overspill and to be honest i think we should have family blocks throughout the ground.

I much prefer the view when we sat in 111/2 and would pay extra to sit there (grew up in the bob bank, seems the correct way to view a game).

Thursday I "sat" in 117 with my 10 year old daughter and the atmosphere was great, but the guys around me were screaming all sorts of obscenities to Mr Nolan. No complaints I should have gone to the family but a few family friends came with us.

As long as there is provision made to sit families or like minded fans together I think it would improve the atmosphere.

Or everyone stops blaming it on the design and acoustics ( lmao ) and makes some noise. I swear people think NInian Park was some holy grail where noise came from everyone non-stop for 90 mins as soon as they entered the ground. Face it, nostalgia is clouding your judgement, it was in no way as good as change hating fan elitists on here make it out to be

Re: Wayne Nash

Mon May 07, 2012 8:40 am

Bit sad that some folk think the only way to generate a good atmosphere is to surround (and no doubt bait) the opposition supporters.
How about if all the standers and singers went to the Canton and really got that going.
