I would give him at least 3 more seasons but as long as the club keeps moving forward under Malky, which I'm sure it will, then there's no need to get rid of him.

He hasn't exactly had much money to spend. If we don't go up this season and we keep our best players this summer and Malky gets backed in the summer transfer window, we'll do really well next season I think. But you just never know what might happen this season under Malky.

Imagine if he took us up in his 1st season in charge after all that's happened and considering the amount of re-building of the club he has had to do. He would be a club legend! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm convinced we have the right man to deliver but he will need to be supported from board level.

Having read the book "Moneyball", which is reported to be in Malky's office, I would have to give him 4 years at least. Unfortunately, he may attract the attention of Premier League clubs before then if we don't make it.

"Moneyball", although it is actually about baseball in the US, outlines the scouting and recruiting principles which Malky (and certain other managers) are applying to team-building on a budget. A good read, although it helps if you have an understanding of Major League Baseball.

So far Malky has spent approximately £2million on permanent transfers, not a ridiculous amount but sizeable nonetheless, if he continues with that sort of money each season then I believe Malky will get us promoted.

2 million is a sizeable amount????????????????,in this day and age 2 million is nothing considering the transfer fees of certain players, as i ve said in a previous thread throwing money around doesnt mean nothing and leicester(spent loads) and reading (spent peanuts) prove that.

Also just finished reading moneyball. I think he can have as long as he wants, 25 years if that's what it takes as long as he does a two things:-
1) Keeps running the off pitch matters as well as he seems to be doing. He has done a lot of good things, the greatest of which for me is the ability to refresh the squad last summer from one that was full of players with no resale value to a young hungry squad, many of whom could be targets for bigger teams (Mason, Gunnarson, Turner, possibly Harris in the future). One of the key things in moneyball is being able to get the best transfer value for your players and preferably before you have to give them a bumper contract you can't afford (see Joe Ledley, Jay Bothroyd). The squad is an asset and can be an investment if he continues to be able to buy cheap and we'll see if he knows the right time to sell. I am sure he must have reduced the wage bill from last year, with a few sales in the summer we may be able to break even. Obviously only worth selling if he knows he can find cheap replacement.
2) Keeps the team competitive on the pitch, a club of our size based purely on stadium size and therefore matchday revenue should be challenging in the top half of the championship. As long as we continue to compete for a playoff place I'll be happy. The playoffs are effectively a lottery with the odds of promotion being 1 in 4 so if he has taken us to the playoffs 5 or 6 times and we still haven't been promoted I may start to worry. With the parachute payment system in place, challenging for top 2 without this extra money is extremely difficult though not impossible. However, unless the malaysians suddenly injected a large amount of money, say £20m for transfers and then Malky still failed I don't see failing to make top 2 as a target Malky should be judged on.

The other thing he needs to keep doing is keeping up his relationship with the fans which has been brilliant so far. So I'd give him as long as he wants but I think it is more likely someone else comes and tries to take him off us than it ever getting to the point of us having to make a decision.

Having thought more about the question, i think the answer has got to be "as long as it takes", providing continuous improvement is made, season after season. I'm already looking forwards to next season, what ever league we are in.

I would let him see his contract out which I believe in until 2016, but this would have to based on a growth in the strength of our challenge.

In other words I would want to see improvement year in year out

KEEP THE FAITH!!
