A flock of sheep led by a lion will out wit a pride of lions led by a sheep :- look at it logically, no matter how good a team, or a army or family or whatever, they can be the best ever, but if they have a poor leader, then they wont get far, on the other hand a good leader will guide the thickest or poorest team or family etc. to succeed.

So as a group, no matter how could you are, with a poor leader in charge you are fucked, but a good leader will get the best out of anything.

(It was quite easy and straightforward until I tried to explain it.lol)
