Never in a million years. We cant even fill 26000 with the success we've had !!!
I think a Tottenham sized 36000 would do us nicely.
The mad part is if we played Man Utd next week at the Millennium Stadium, we'd sell out all 72000 seats. :?:

I believe we have the ability to consistently fill a 40k stadium if we get to the Premiership. It would take quite a few years of Premiership football and some relative success while there, allied to top draw marketing and a whole lot of praying, for us to get 60k consistently.

Although, there's nothing wrong with setting our sights high. See my signature.

Re: " HONEST OPINIONS "

I guess it all depends, if we had a very good marketing department at Cardiff City football club, I think anything is possible. I remember as a kid in the 90's we use to average around about 5-8000 fans per a game at Ninian Park, and now we're averaging at 23,000 fans. So to see a jump of 15,000-18,000 fans in nearly 10 years is massive. Alot of factors contributed to this, Sam Hamman, New stadium, but for me its the FA Cup final which completely changed it for our club, which showed fans as a club we can compete with the top level.

Nevertheless, say for arguement sake, we add another tier to the grange end, i.e. level 2 upper stand, and say it was a 5,000 capacity, I reckon we'd sell out straight away on the basis of family stand ticket pricing. I remember as a kid, still in primary school in Port Talbot area when Cardiff City offered tickets for free to school children as long as you bring an adult along which cost them £5 to enter the ground. As a kid, I enjoyed the game, and have always asked my Dad to take me to Ninian Park. Little gestures like that can bring in new fans, such a shame that the Marketing department has fallen behind in this regards.....we only see it now and then. I do believe we should see more schemes being initaiated by the club, like the Borough home game, bring a friend for £10....who knows they might enjoy the game, and could become a season ticket holder eventually.

For me, I feel the schools within Cardiff, Bridgend, Rhondda (all the valleys), Neath Port Talbot and Newport should be targetted, in sending our players to get involved with their games lessons "or inspire them" in terms of being role models and offering them free tickets. Try and be their friends kinda thing......I'm just trying to generate ideas....but something along those lines.

The biggest thing which I like about our club is the involvement with the Ty-Hafan charity organisation, and seeing the good work the players and club put in, especially when seeing pictures of Bellamy last season delivering presents to children. I believe as a club we can target more of the fans local area charities and get us fans and local people involved, that can generate appreciation, and a sense of friendship and they could potentially come to some games and support the players. Who knows this could actually work in the long run, and create a positive image of our club, as being family orientated and supportive. You wouldnt need a marketing budget, and it wouldnt cost extra money, just the need for players to turn up and put smiles on peoples faces.

I believe there are alot more ways to increse the numbers at our stadiums, its just a shame that our marketing department arent that creative. Nevertheless, our club has come a long way, and to see it grow this way, you know it can only get bigger.

A big part of increasing our stadium capacity would be increasing the surrounding infrastructure. Getting out of Cardiff is already a 'mare with 20k+. Imagine just going up an extra 10k. You might as well take a sleeping bag.
Crap parking, crap roads, crap trains.
However if the city of Cardiff can cope with 60k+ of rugby fans...then it must be possible with a bit of logistical planning.
A park and ride at jct 33 to start with next season please.

You only need to look at Newcastle and Sunderland to see the art of the possible. Also the crowds that the Sheffield clubs attract.
60k is a hell of jump mind!

Re: " HONEST OPINIONS "

Wed Jan 18, 2012 7:43 pm

Can't see it I'm afraid. 35,000 stadium, nearly full most games is more realistic,

Re: " HONEST OPINIONS "

Wed Jan 18, 2012 7:50 pm

Would be happy with a 35,000 capacity with a chance to increase to 45,000. I don't think we have a chance to fill 60,000 every game in the Premier League. Only the following clubs I think can get 60,000 fans in the Premier League:

Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool. Maybe Chelsea....

I don't think Newcastle, Man City or Tottenham could achieve this at the present time.

But I suppose anything can happen in football....

Re: " HONEST OPINIONS "

Wed Jan 18, 2012 8:19 pm

If we were in the prem then I dont think that 40,000 is out of the question. The biggest problem we face is we would not have the infastructure to support such numbers. I would question whether we have the road network or public transport to cope.I would not like to think how long it would take to get out of the ground, retail park or surrounding areas if we had to cope with 40,000 fans.

I tend to base success on results rather than crowds as that is what actually matters at the end of the day.

Given that Cardiff and it's catchment area is far bigger than Swansea, you should get bigger crowds than us. In fact, given the difference in size of each city you should be embarrassed that you don't get more than you have up to now (baring in mind that right now if we had a larger stadium, we would be outstripping your crowds easily. In fact we probably are now seeing as you keep reporting on thousands of ST holders not turning up).

If you really think you will ever need a 60,000 seater stadium then I'm afraid you are indeed delusional.

Ah, so you're saying Annis and Carl are talking shit about St holders not turning up then. Ok, fair enough.

You should also accept that the ONLY reason you are getting higher attendance numbers than us is because our ground is sold out of every game. If the space was there, then our crowds would be higher. It's not difficult to understand.

But you keep hanging onto that crowd thing, I'll look at the league table.

Not at all. There are bound to be some plastics. The difference is though, there will always be someone to buy that ticket as every game is sold out with only 1,500 match day tickets available which go within hours of going on sale.

Therefore a moot point.

Glad you admit to that. However from 8,000 to 16,000 ST holders I think its a bit naive to say there will be some plastics about. lets see if you can hold onto them like we have since our FA cup final appearance.

The only way to guarantee a seat for this season was to get a season ticket. Previously fans could just buy on a match by match basis. That's almost impossible now. And with with 90% of ST's being sold prior to the play off final, the number of plastics is minimal.

I think we cannot forget where we have come from, 2,500 in old Div 4, losing to non-league in the FA Cup in front of 1,500 at ninian.

If we got up to 35000 every week that would be amazing! and I believe that is achieveable and sustainable for the Bluebirds.
