Mcnaughton and Quinn were better full backs. Simple as that. The way Jones played with wingers a defensive full back was more important than an attacking full back. Mchnaughton and Quinn, both far superior in that department.

And as I understand it Jones slated him publically because Matthews was starting to believe his own hype and was a bit of a big time charles.

i also think he would have done well under malky, especially as he was pretty good at getting forwarrd just as mm likes his fullbacks to do.. would have been good competition for taylor and super kev ..
