It's difficult to give a valuation of a young player in the SPL as he only comes up against a decent defensive back line every few weeks. Obviously I'm slightly bias, but if a team signs him for 2 million they have got a bargain. He has won young player of the year 2 years running, and scored 19 goals last season despite all the front page headlines and 5 months of terrace abuse.
It's very frustrating that we have to accept under the odds for a player who has enormous potential because we, like every other provincial club in Scotland have serious financial problems (effectively no TV money). I imagine Dundee United will not sell to Cardiff without a sell on and promotion clause which is think is fair and now the norm.
Hopefully having 2 teams or more in for him will mean we get a fair offer. As mentioned above, if you get Goodwillie for 2 million on top of Conway on a free you have taken a very small gamble. These boys will be on relatively low wages and desperate to prove themselves and add to the 3 caps between them.
I predict Goodwillie will go to Cardiff as Malky will make him feel wanted and within 12 months will be getting linked to a top 6 premiership team. I am very confident that he is on his way to the very top.

City made a bid to Dundee Utd and it has been turned down. The two clubs are haggling over the price and how the payments will be set out.
Let's not give up City, we want it, the player wants it, let's make him a City star.

How come he's been down to Cardiff and discussed personal terms without us having agreed a fee with Dundee Utd? Why would a club let us potentially turn a players head before we've even met their asking price?

Know plenty of Dundee United fans and they were gutted when Conway signed for us. However they are devastated Goodwillie is signing for us [they are convinced its a done deal].
Although not well known within the football world, Dundee United are the cities Celtic equivalent [Republican] and Dundee are the Loyalist side.
The board would be very reluctant to ever sell a player to Rangers given the sectarian links and the impact it would have on upsetting the fans, apparently its very rarely happened before. Its the reason Conway picked us over Rangers and in addition, they cant see any other club Goodwillie is going to sign for!

How can anyone honestly say he is worth double that? He's not been tried and tested yet. Technically we are buying potential. He's done well at SPL level and has broken into the Scotland team but he still has to prove homself at a higher level.
I'd offer £1.5m with a 1/3rd promotion bonus and 15% sell on fee on anything over £3m.
The last part is absolute nonsense mate. Conway was a free agent. Tough shit. We pay what players are worth, end of.

Have you seen Goodwillie play? Obviously not if thats what you're coming out with. I watch the SPL a lot. He is already worth £4m in my opinion and Rangers already now that if they can get him on the cheap in a year or two they can shift him for £5-6m and make profit, as Rangers always do. They rip off other SPL teams and cash in on the players.
I've seen him play for Scotland too, he done well for them as well.
Also, Henderson is potential, didn't stop Dalglish splashing out £20m for him did it? Didn't stop Ferguson splashing out £12m on Ronaldo who wasn't tested in the premiership.
The fact is, he is already worth more than that and in reality for £2m we're getting an absolute bargain and Dundee know that, hence why they're sticking so firmly with their offer and holding out for £2m.
Also, the last part, it makes perfect sense. If we sign Goodwillie for £2m, we've basically got two players from Dundee for £2m. The average being £1m per player. Its not exactly mind baffling mathematics is it?The two players together are worth more than £2m so its a bargain. Goodwillie alone is worth more than that.
