According to BBC Scotland's Jim Spence, we (Dundee United) have had 2 bids for him -neither of which have came from Rangers or have met our valuation of 2 million.

It's difficult to give a valuation of a young player in the SPL as he only comes up against a decent defensive back line every few weeks. Obviously I'm slightly bias, but if a team signs him for 2 million they have got a bargain. He has won young player of the year 2 years running, and scored 19 goals last season despite all the front page headlines and 5 months of terrace abuse.

It's very frustrating that we have to accept under the odds for a player who has enormous potential because we, like every other provincial club in Scotland have serious financial problems (effectively no TV money). I imagine Dundee United will not sell to Cardiff without a sell on and promotion clause which is think is fair and now the norm.

Hopefully having 2 teams or more in for him will mean we get a fair offer. As mentioned above, if you get Goodwillie for 2 million on top of Conway on a free you have taken a very small gamble. These boys will be on relatively low wages and desperate to prove themselves and add to the 3 caps between them.

I predict Goodwillie will go to Cardiff as Malky will make him feel wanted and within 12 months will be getting linked to a top 6 premiership team. I am very confident that he is on his way to the very top.

Tbh I hadn't heard of the player until he was linked with cardiff, so is he that good? As in previous posts though it does say he has won young player of the year 2 years in a row, so he sounds like he's got potential. Worth a crack id say :ayatollah:

I think it is not the fee just how it will be paid that is normally the issue with clubs

How come he's been down to Cardiff and discussed personal terms without us having agreed a fee with Dundee Utd? Why would a club let us potentially turn a players head before we've even met their asking price?

:?:

I think it's because we are close enough to their asking price for premininary player contract negotiations to go ahead and for him to have a look to see if we are the right type of club for him. I read that somewhere.

Every 2 months I spend a week in Dundee with work.

Know plenty of Dundee United fans and they were gutted when Conway signed for us. However they are devastated Goodwillie is signing for us [they are convinced its a done deal].

Although not well known within the football world, Dundee United are the cities Celtic equivalent [Republican] and Dundee are the Loyalist side.

The board would be very reluctant to ever sell a player to Rangers given the sectarian links and the impact it would have on upsetting the fans, apparently its very rarely happened before. Its the reason Conway picked us over Rangers and in addition, they cant see any other club Goodwillie is going to sign for!

Dundee utd sold duncan ferguson to rangers for 4 million back in 1995.

This is absolute nonsense.

As a Scotsman who has lived in both Dundee and Glasgow I can assure you there is no Celtic or Rangers equivalent in the City of Dundee. History books will tell you that Dundee United used to be called Dundee Hibernian (Hibernian being Latin for Ireland). We changed our name in 1909 to be a United club and not solely for a Republican following. It irks me when people (particularly the minority Rangers and Celtic fans who want to label the provincial clubs as Catholic or Protestant)

Dundee United fans would like to see their players go anywhere but the Old Firm. This has nothing to do with sectarianism. Cristian Dailly, Duncan Ferguson, Gordon Petric, Steven Thompson and Billy Dodds have moved from Dundee United to Rangers and all bar your ex player Thompson recieved fairly warm receptions on their returns (Thompson was a billy big time and had a very poor goal scoring record with DUFC)

We even loaned Andy Webster in season 09-10 from Rangers and he captained us to Scottish Cup glory and earned legendary status.

Apologies for discussing this issue on a Cardiff City forum; and 1 that I have been very impressed with. Very few immature discussions or ignorant posts. This post I take exception to.

How can anyone honestly say he is worth double that? He's not been tried and tested yet. Technically we are buying potential. He's done well at SPL level and has broken into the Scotland team but he still has to prove homself at a higher level.

I'd offer £1.5m with a 1/3rd promotion bonus and 15% sell on fee on anything over £3m.

The last part is absolute nonsense mate. Conway was a free agent. Tough shit. We pay what players are worth, end of.

Have you seen Goodwillie play? Obviously not if thats what you're coming out with. I watch the SPL a lot. He is already worth £4m in my opinion and Rangers already now that if they can get him on the cheap in a year or two they can shift him for £5-6m and make profit, as Rangers always do. They rip off other SPL teams and cash in on the players.

I've seen him play for Scotland too, he done well for them as well.

Also, Henderson is potential, didn't stop Dalglish splashing out £20m for him did it? Didn't stop Ferguson splashing out £12m on Ronaldo who wasn't tested in the premiership.

The fact is, he is already worth more than that and in reality for £2m we're getting an absolute bargain and Dundee know that, hence why they're sticking so firmly with their offer and holding out for £2m.

Also, the last part, it makes perfect sense. If we sign Goodwillie for £2m, we've basically got two players from Dundee for £2m. The average being £1m per player. Its not exactly mind baffling mathematics is it? The two players together are worth more than £2m so its a bargain. Goodwillie alone is worth more than that.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of him. I goto a fair share of SPL games and I've saw him play for United, Scotland and the Under 21's. I've saw him score some screamers and I've said elsewhere there is no doubt he has potential. I've also saw him look totally anonymous in matches, like almost every player in the game. There's very few players in the SPL worth £4 million, and if you watch that much of it then you will know that.

I couldn't care lees what other clubs are willing to pay over inflated fees, that is upto them however I''d rather see us spend what money we have wisely. We obviously feel he has a value and hopefully we will stick to that. I imagine that we'll go to £2million and are testing the water with lower bids. What he could go for in future is not an issue. He could get run down next week and lose his legs, does that mean we should haggle on that being a possibillity too?

The last part makes no sense whatsoever. Conway is a free agent, so we got him for free. End of. Conway is not any part of the equation so to use him in the maths is just nonsense. The fee is related to one player and one player only, and at present that player also has court cases hanging off his head which brings his value down in my opinion.

I got this on good authority (a scottish copper!!)

The whole world knows he never raped this munter, she was trying to frame him
but the procurator thing up there is shit scared to just throw it out cos it looks
like 'money talks'..... f*cking disgusting really, poor lad!

The fact that he is still improving as a player while all this was going on shows
he's a very strong willed lad. I might just jizz my pants if we get him. word on
the street is.. a year in the Championship and he'll be worth a minimum of
10m

Come on City!!! get him!!!

Hi mate, jealousy steps in again, the other mb saying that how could he come down to Cardiff lol he could fly there and back in one day, an hour each way journey, as I said in a previous posts I saw him down there,he was only there for 2 hrs, hope he joins, keep up the good work carl, do not let the saddos get u down or stop the info coming. jealousy is a sad thing.

Sorry mate but what has the other messageboard got to do with this thread?
If they want to mug Carl off then let them. Carl is right far more often than

And pathetic. This is about Cardiff City not about fans arguing about which is the best messageboard. Both have got their merits. This Club is big enough for two messageboards.
