INaturally I'll be sad to see him go but unfortunately his antics, both drinking and gambling have become too much of an issue and have firmly placed his playing ability in the background.

£1.25m isn't what we should be getting but there we go we'll free up a large part of the wage bill anyway :ayatollah:

As for a replacement, Earnie would do just fine :ayatollah: :D

Right, 1.25m, quality.

For 1.25m and Chops wages, despite how much I love him, a must signing in my eyes:

1) Robert Earnshaw - proven Championship striker, back home where he belongs, international experienced player, on a free transfer!!! Wouldn't want as much wages as Chopra most certtainly. SIGN HIM UP, AND QUICK.

Now to spend a bit of money, already in this thread mentioned is the next target:

2) Ched Evans - IIRC his contract expires in 1 year, obviously has potential, played in a poor team and didn't get too much opportunities, remember his goal at Ninian Park in the last minute for Norwich from 25/30 yards, I certainly do, again he's Welsh, good signing.

Next, another striker out of contract in 1 year, very proven, and others like Norwich have been rumoured with him but they are signing Morison, and Vaughan, so he would probably be available, cheap as well.

3) Craig-Mackail-Smith - A quality player who boasts a lot, deserves to play at a club of our stature if not more, guarantees goals, been banging them in CONSISTENTLY. Cheap because of his contract and I'd be DELIGHTED with this aquisition.

Probably more costly, but a popular League 1 striker who came up the famous Ipswich academy, now playing for Huddersfield, guarantees Goals and nominated for the best players in League 1 this year.

4) Jordan Rhodes - Huddersfield, 21 years of age, bags of potential and already cutting it at League 1 level comfortably, a VERY GOOD SIGNING.

ive said it before and i will say it again, chopra is the best finisher in the championship why not let the new manager asses the situation when he arrives, cos it will cost us more to replace is goals mark my words

Re: " £1.25 Mill "

Wed Jun 08, 2011 9:55 pm

Surely Chops is not getting sold before the new manager comes in???

In this division Chops is quality. He could quite easily be our top goal scorer next season if the new manager gets him in top condition and Chops gets his motivation back again. I wouldn't sell Chops for less than 2 mil becuase you won't be able to get much of a striker for 1.25 mil in the current situation with big fees for quality players.

He also wants to go though Chief. So get shot i say. Only a guess here but it did show he didnt want to play for us last season didn't he. It was a shame he robbed us of his wages whilst pissing it up before games. tw*t

Yeah agree with that Nukes, he let us the fans and the club down badly. If he stayed fit and kept his weight in check then maybe he could have scored maybe 9 or so more goals last season.. That could possibly have made the difference between getting 2nd spot in the league and finishing 4th. Think we should demand atleast £1.5 million for him though, but I do believe it's time to ship him out and bring in Earnie as his replacement. Is it true that Nugent is out of contract at Pompey too?? If so does anyone have an idea what kind of wages he is on? I think Bellers, Earnie and Nugent could be a real handfull for any championship defence.

Question to everyone

How much will it cost to get a Good Quality Striker for the Championship for Next Season ?
Who is Available ?

Doesn`t seem a lot of money for him at first glance , but will still show a profit compared to how he is valued in the accounts (the more minor point). Also , I think his game will deteriorate further next season in line with a deterioration in his performance off the pitch so his value to us on the pitch will be far less than it has been in the past (the more important point).

The cost of a replacement is very hard to estimate , but the club will have a lot of wages savings (over £1m a season) to go towards that cost as I don`t believe an incoming striker from the Championship will be on anything like that money (and certainly not a promising young one from League 1). If the club goes the other way and gets an established replacement striker from the Premier then he may be as costly , but should be of better quality.

Absolute rubbish, Nile Ranger is a quality young striker and that is why Newcastle have given him a new 5 year contract. He was quality for Newcastle the season they played in the Championship, he was their topscorer. He is still only 19, and he is improving all the time, he has tremendous pace, he is very strong, he is great in the air and also he works his arse off up front and he plays with passion and commitment and would be a brilliant signing for us, if we were to get him on loan for the season.

Sinclair cost the Jacks £1mil but he wasnt proven at the time then Borini went for £1.5mil but again he was unproven too ............ trouble is who is out there at the mo , do City look to lower divisions or a youngster from the Prem league ?? Bargain bucket players like Parkin for £300K maybe ??

Quiet agree

We were all delighted when we got Chopra for 4 million

Hes still young enough and could have his best days ahead of him

A new manager would have given him a fresh start.

Goalscorers are high value because they are a rare breed

i think we will be regretting this sale this time next year

Re: " £1.25 Mill "

Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:24 am

It may well cost us more to fined a strikers cos other clubs know how much we want the prem, so they will really hold out for any players we want. But it may well cost us less if we can fined one that dont go out on the piss before big games . I use to like chops, but he lost my respect after the way he lost respect for the club and Fans, and went out only hours before the big ones, so Fk him I say.

A lot of posters are saying keep him even though he wants to move on. The fact is he has thrown his toys out of the pram because a lot of City fans have turned on him for his antics last season. Please see everyone that he and 3 others that have left our Club most probably cost our Club a potential 90Million and a chance to go to the Premiere.
My view is Chops has a lot of problems and even with help he cant sort them. If Ipswich match his wages then all fool them he needs them wages to keep up with his alleged gambling debts. He also seems to have a drink problem as if he didn't he wouldn't feel the need to be on the piss hours before a game.

Chops was a legend here now he leaves a gambling drunk and within the next season or two he will be a league 1 or 2 player unless by some miracle he gets himself sorted. But Roy Keane could not do it neither could Dave Jones.
Good luck to Chops but TBH i am glad he is going.

Burke leaves Cardiff and £1m Chopra could follow him out
by Terry Phillips, Western Mail
Jun 9 2011

CHRIS BURKE has completed his switch from Cardiff City to Championship rivals Birmingham City – and Michael Chopra looks to be on his way to Ipswich Town in a £1.5m transfer.

Those departures highlight the need for Bluebirds chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee and his fellow directors to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible.

If Chopra, Cardiff City’s highest paid player last season, does make his expected switch to Ipswich then a new manager would be left with only two strikers in his squad – Jon Parkin and first year pro Nat Jarvis.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell tested Cardiff’s resolve with an initial £1m bid for fans’ favourite Chopra.

Cardiff rebuffed that offer, but we understand the two clubs have agreed upon a £1.5m fee.

Cardiff chairman Dato Chan is flying in to join a board meeting this weekend which will decide on a new manager with Chris Hughton (ex-Newcastle United), Roberto Di Matteo (ex-West Brom) and Watford boss Malky Mackay the front-runners.

Chief executive Gethin Jenkins and director Alan Whiteley are heading up Cardiff’s quest for a new manager to replace Dave Jones and they will submit their shortlist after a series of interviews.

The need for a speedy decision is highlighted by Chopra’s talks with Ipswich manager Jewell, who sees the former Newcastle United and Sunderland striker as crucial to his club’s hopes in 2011-12.

Jewell has made it clear his number one priority is a goalscoring forward – and Chopra certainly fits that bill.

While City directors finalise their plans for a new manager, chief executive Jenkins is dealing with squad matters.

Seven loan players, including captain Craig Bellamy, have returned to their parent clubs while Jay Bothroyd, Burke, Adam Matthews and Gavin Rae are all out of contract and are moving on.

Bothroyd wants Premier League football with Everton leading the chase, while Matthews has joined Scottish Premier League giants Celtic.

Rae is wanted by both Aberdeen and League One club Charlton Athletic.

Hungarian defender Gabor Gyepes is another player considering his future.

He fell out of favour under Jones and told Hungarian newspaper Nemzeti Sport: “I prepared for the change, but this is a new situation.

“I am under contract for one more year and I think I will start pre-season training with Cardiff. But, despite the change in manager, I feel it would be good for me to find a new club, maybe in another country.”

Gyepes, aged 29, was signed by manager Jones and is due back at Cardiff City for next season along with fellow central defenders Mark Hudson, Dekel Keinan and Anthony Gerrard, now back from his season-long loan spell at Hull City where he was voted player of the season.

With Kevin McNaughton and Darcy Blake also able to operate at the heart of defence, the Bluebirds may not feel the need to strengthen in that area.

Gyepes is under contract with City until next summer, but was unhappy to be overlooked by Jones, saying: “I didn’t play after March and at the end of the season I was out of the squad.

“After our defeat against Swansea City in November our manager always blamed me for everything.”

The new Cardiff manager will have to move quickly to make decisions on City’s backroom and playing staff.

IF chops is saying he wants to move on then GET RID QUICK for the best price possible - he will not change his ways if mentally he has moved on from Cardiff

Why not look at league 1 who have younger up and coming strikers who wont demand high wages and be diva's off the pitch yet have the ability to play in the Championship with wanting week in week out to proove they can do it

look at it this way
if we get someone on a free we could pay out upto 44k a week

1,250,000.00 sale fee + 20,000.00 wages

Plenty of more committed players out there that will score goals given the service. Without doubt the club has done the right thing in getting rid of Chops. He showed no committment to either club nor fans last season.
