Tbh i did change my mind, DJ was a ok manager until, the 3-0 loss home vs Ipswich and 6-0 preston, that's when I thought he was bad, my respect for him deeply weakened in the play off final season, and then of course this season my respect got even worse!!!

I'm sure 85% of our fans didn't want him out FA Cup Final year in all honesty no offence Annis :?

Actually the Xmas before the Facup Final, The Supporters Club(Vince Alm etc) and myself met Ridsdale in the Municipal Club upstairs and asked for him to be Sacked then.

Every player has a price even Ronaldo at Manchester Utd when Stoke offered £6M for Joe we should have bitten their hands off.

A huge mistake our club simply could not afford. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Another huge mistake was selecting Hasslebaink to the trigger point where he was due a contract extension that one I believe cost the club £750K and we didn't even get the player.

Joe Ledley was the only real cock up - we have had out full money's worth out of Bothroyd and probably Burke - I think they have both peaked.

Matthews showed potential, that's all. At least 4 better full backs at the club last year. Ironically, if he'd waited he might have got his chance this season!

He will get a job somewhere Ian, just not on the salary he is accustomed too. As long as I don't have to see or hear the dour sod then that makes me happy.

Good Business would of been to have given Dave Jones Notice Last season, but if Promoted then Bonus/extension etc .
The Malaysians failed on this Department.

Absolute tosh, how is that good business exactly?

How could you expect Jones to do a job knowing that his contract had been torn up? Even if he got us promoted he could have then found himself out on his arse!

We're only stuck with him on our terms though, it would make no difference if he's on the payroll or if we had to pay him off for the year. Hopefully this way the club will save some cash, if he picks up another job.

He's entitled to the compensation though, the problem lies with Ridsdale not Dave Jones. Why should he let cash go which he is entitled too? He no longer has anything to do with the club.

I HAVE NO SHORT MEMORIES REGARDING HIM, FOR 6 YRS I NEVER WANTED THE ARROGANT PERSON HERE.

6 NIL AT PRESTON/3 NIL AT HOME TO IPSWICH SHOULD HAVE GONE.
120 Games 1 nil Down DJ Won 10 of them.
£6 Mill he had at least from Our Club.

When you see it written like that, how can anybody think that DJ delivered "Good Value?". I wanted him gone after the "Preston Fiasco" when we failed to get into the play-offs - if a collapse of that magnitude had occurred in say Italy we would all be tapping our noses and darkly muttering "corruption!"

I still find it impossible to consider that there isn't a thin vein of an agenda running through some posts on this messageboard. Like this one for example, and, oh, I don't know, shall we say, some West Ham fans' posts as well?

Six Seasons.

No Promotion.

In that time, Swansea, Blackpool, Hull, Burnley, Norwich all got Promotion on a shoestring, Bristol City, Preston, Reading all achieved the same as us by getting to Play Off Finals but it doesnt mean a thing.

One of the highest wage bills in the division for years.

Didnt win anything.

His record in the Loan Market was absolute dire. Bellamy the exception.

For every Roger Johnson there were 10 Ivan Redans, Andrea Ferreti, Warren Feeney, Soloman Taiwoo, Steve McLean, Lee Naylor etc etc etc

Wasted money signing past it players like Kevin Campbell and Robbie Fowler on big money.

Never replaced Neil Alexander and never stuck with a Goalkeeper for more than one season. Tried to bring in Loan Keepers like Ross Turnbull, Schmeichael and Heaton (the first time) but wouldnt stick with them. Signed Michael Oaks and Peter Enkelman.

Fell out with loads of players Burke, Thompson, Gypes, Gerrard, Rae, Quin, Rosco, Drinkwater. One or two fair enough but you have to ask questions when it gets like this.

Signed one or two players and sold them on for a profit, but the fact Bothroyd, Burke, Ledley and Matthws have gone for free eclipses that good work, and YES Jones was involved in the Contracts side of it. Common Knowledge.

********

Now here is the shocking part.

Season 1

In Dave Jones first season with 7 games to go we were 8th in the League and in with a shout of the Play Offs.
We didnt win a single game in those last 7 games, lost 5 and drew 2, finished 11th.

Season 2

With 9 games to go Cardiff City were sitting pretty in 5th Position. We had been in the top 8 all season and had been top of the League for 12 games earlier in the season. With Play Offs almost certain we just so happened to not to win ANY of our last 9 games, losing 7 and drawing 2.

Season 3

Smoke and Mirrors, Dave Jones greatest achievment, getting Cardiff City to the FA Cup Final, I will be forever greatful for this and the day will live with me forever, however, despite signing Robbie Fowler and JFH and having Arran Ramsey (who he wouldnt play  ) we finished 12th in the League. We won just 2 of the last 7 games, losing 2 and drawing 3.

Season 4

Cardiff City had been in the Play Off places since October 10th! only slipping out for one week in early December.
With 4 games to go we were 4th in the League, surely guaranteed a Play Off Spot. Here we go.. didnt win a single game in the last 4, Got hammerd 6-0 away at Preston and Lost at home to Ipswich 3-0 on the last ever game at Ninian Park. Unbelievably, after losing at Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the seaon we slipped to 7th on Goal Difference and missed out. Those 2 defeats and -9 on the Goal Difference Sheet killed us. Theres a pattern above.

Season 5.

Looks like we made it.. :D, Dave Jones guides Cardiff City to the Play Off Final!! For the record, In the interest of fairnes, we only lost once in the final 11 games, winning 7 and drawing 3. Off we go to play Blackpool in the final and we all believe that this is our year. Unfortunatley, Blackpool beat us on the day, and my only squable with Jones is the persitance with Kelvin Etuhu (who), yeah exactly, isnt he in jail now? I personaly wanted Jones to go, but was willing to give him a final shot.

Season 6.

The Final Curtain. Jones says he has the best squad and guarantes automatic promotion. He has spent £1million on Mark Hudson, £250,000 on Soloman Taiwoo, and £500,000 on David Marshall in the past few seasons. We sign a host of loan players and even get Bellamy on board.. With 4 games to go we are Second in the League!! Its going to happen.

Not, We take 5 Points from the last 12, 1 in the last possible six, including a 3-0 defeat at home to Boro in the last home game.

We finish 4th! as Norwich win 4 of their last 5 games of the season to secure Promotion to the Premier League in Paul Lamberts Second Season at Norwich and their first back in the Championship. We enter the Play Offs feeling down, get a draw away at Reading, and then get beat 3-0 at home! in the second legg.

Dave Jones is finaly sacked.

About blydi time.!

Can't we talk abut more important things like next season, and the next manager coming in to take over. I believe if DJ didn't arrive when he did we would still be stuck in the lower leagues. He might have struggled with plan B and I agree with his departure at the end of the season. We need a fresh start, and a manager that can have a better relationship with the media and build his own team. I think this topic is ridiculous and totally disrespectful to a manager who has brought us so far, considering what he had to put up with behind the scenes he's stuck by the club for 6 years and has got us where we are today, little bit of respect for the man I say ! Some people really need to move on !!
That's my opinion and everyone is entitled to theres.
I will say this though, you never know what you've got until it's gone. The next move is so important, otherwise we could end up like Sheffield Utd, Preston etc

Hugely biased against Jones and some glaring factual inaccuracies.

However, I have better things to do right now than go over them with a fine comb, and, as ccfc1988 has just said, it's over. He's gone. That's it. Can we all just end it here?

What happened to onwards and upwards? That applies here as well. We need to move onwards and upwards from Jones/Hammam/Ridsdale etc as well, all together.

Dave Jones is old news now , A bit harsh to blame him for the depature of players who chose to excercise their rights under freedom of contract. they were the ones that chose to run down their contracts

The club should have sold them like Loovens when he indicated he would not be signing a new deal

He may have won f**k all but so have 16 other managers in the premiership & 21 in the championship during his 6 years at the club - He led us to our highest placed finish since 1970-71 & a FA Cup Final.

Whilst I respect everyones opinion on him whether it is for or against at least we are competing at this level for the first time since those heady days of the early 70's and he deserves a little bit of credit for that surely

Onwards and upwards whoever comes in will under depending on their budget will be under pressure to improve on 4th place!!

very unfair post Annis, in my opinion

Dave Jones had a lot of bad qualities, i agree, but he brought a hell of a lot of money over his time at club, on player sales, often by buying players cheaply and re-selling them at several times the value

any manager/club can lose some players who choose to let their contracts run down for one reason or another

but he sold a lot more players for a very good price and brought in a lot of quality players cheaply, than he did let players go for nothing in a very long time as manager of the club

Statistics can be manipulated in every which way, and no better example than Dave Jones' reign.

Yes, he did buy players, and yes, he did make a big gain on them.

However, that gain is then negated by two major factors.

His wage was so high, considering our financial predicament, that what we spent on that cancelled any gain out. However, that is only a minor point.

The most important is the fact that he bought so many players in, wasting so many resources, that he was bound the strike lucky at some with regards finding a gem. Its merely the law of averages. Let another manager have such a massive turnover of personnel, and he will do the same.
