Swansea are a small to average sized club, who know this and accept it.Cardiff always think they are bigger than what they are as their the capital city.I do believe though that if they reach the premiership then the club will take off like no other, and the CCS will need more seats.

Since Sam Hammam took over the club, our average attendance has gradually increased from 3,000 to 23,000. I still believe that in the Cardiff City catchment area there are more Liverpool and Man Utd supporters than Cardiff City supporters. I believe Premiership football would change that.

Someone posted on here that 1,400,000 people live within 35 miles of Cardiff with no other other rival club in sight. OK 35 miles West there are towns that will have Swansea and Cardiff fans in, but everywhere else its Cardiff or Premiership clubs. Cardiff are the sleeping giant and Premiership football is whats missing.

 Not you personally. And if we don't go up we won't implode. Just rebuild and start again. Don't forget we've already sold 18000 season tickets - so will average well over 20K (maybe more than this seasons 23k) however we get on - hardly imploding.

As for the songs about the jacks -well they are such great songs. Gave one or 2 an airing myself last night. :ayatollah:

It's a rivalry, It's all about bragging rights and they come in different ways which makes this discussion quite irrelevant I find. Not to sound to condescending, it's a fair enough debate I suppose. As someone else said Sheffeild Wednesday are a much bigger club than Sheffield United and United have been more succesful in recent years, played more premier league football etc. Cardiff ARE a bigger club than Swansea, we have a bigger fanbase, so much so that people in Swanseas catchment areas like Neath, PT and so on support Cardiff over them. People from Roath, Ely, Llanrumney etc don't start supporting the Jacks do they? We have a bigger stadium, even if they got to the premier league, we'd have more season ticket holders than they could even fit home support in their stadium probably. We are more succesful, we have won an FA Cup, got to afew more cup finals to boot, they haven't, we've even spent more time in the top league than they have. We are better and bigger in all those ways and they hate us for it. Then again, Swansea have beaten Cardiff much more than Cardiff have beaten Swansea in my lifetime. So they have bragging rights of being the littler club and still doing a number over their huge neighbours. Not a bad bragging right to have really. It's all swings and roundabouts. I'd be gutted if they got to the bigtime and we didn't, they'd love to have done that over us and we couldn't take it away from them if they did. Cardiff would still be the monumentally bigger club though, and always will be, simples.

'Massive' 'Huge' :?

see, this is your problem.Your not a massive or huge club at all, you've the potential to be a big club let's say the size of Derby or Leicester.Your not content with that though and want to be the Barcelona of South Wales.

Be real for once and see where it takes you.

It won't make Swansea Town FC 'bigger' but it would make Huw 'The Mean' Jenkins richer....

Otherwise no debate really....

Cardiff City....bigger and better in EVERY way!!

We are already the same size as Leicester and catching Derby quickly.

If we go up we'll pass those 2.

If we don't we'll still be one of the bigger clubs in the prem.

We have the 'potential' to be in the top 20 clubs in the country. I'd say that was a big club.

Both our clubs have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, making football now a more popular game in South Wales than rugby.

blackswan what was your attendance against leeds when you won 5-1 in 1981 ?

Re: " Swans & CCFC-The Bigger Club??? "

Sat May 14, 2011 9:23 pm

That's totally incorrect. They played Liverpool on a Tuesday night in the old first division and had over 22,O00 - I know I was there (long story) .

I know that Swansea,s park football in one of the biggest in the UK and this has historically affected their Saturday attendances. That said as Cardiff has a population touching 350,000 ( 2011 census predictions) with a UDZ of 1.4 million there is no doubt we have the potential of crowds in excess of 30,- 40 thousand on a regular basis.

Re: " Swans & CCFC-The Bigger Club??? "

Sat May 14, 2011 10:14 pm

The fan bases are different. Swansea's is largely confined to the city, with a few scattered around the surrounding towns, like Llanelli. Our fan base is much bigger, not just the city, but the valleys,Bridgend, Maesteg, the Vale of Glamorgan, Barry, Newport etc. Also CCFC have a support all along south Wales, always have done. From Chepstow, Port Talbot, Neath, Llanelli, all the way to Pembrokeshire. After games, when I go to my parents' house in Carmarthen, it is normal to see quite a few City fans in Macdonalds in the town, on their way home further west. If Swansea did go up, it would not really affect our support. It would galvanise the city of Swansea, but not much more. On that basis, I would say that we are the bigger club, even when the jacks might have a better team. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We attracted 51,000 at Ninian Park when we drew Leeds in the cup.

Well, given your business model is based around turning a profit by selling managers....

Good luck with player contract renegotiations, as Huw quickly realises they'd want better than Div 1 wages...

And not only appointing a shit manager like Hollins but fluking out by that cretin turning up late to the creditors meeting, meaning he couldn't vote against the CVA, which would have sunk the Jacks...

In the process completely stiffing a good man in Colin Addison.

Still, 5p in the pound. We're winning, we pay our creditors more than that...

It will be a tough summer for whichever team goes down.
We will not only lose our loan players, but 1st teamers like Jay and Burke.

Fair few others into their last year as well, correct me if I/m wrong, but that will include Gerrard, Hudson, McPhail, Marshall,Quinn, Blake I think Naylor, Chopra, McNaughton,Heaton and Whittingham have a bit longer but not sure, but the guts of our squad are in danger of leaving.

Wheras the Jacks will lose Rangel and Pratley this season and have severla others in their last year including Ashley Williams who has not signed the contract extension offerred, and I think Devries who was out of contract last summer, but given a new one, 2 years if i remember correctly. Thats 3 of their best 4 players IMHO.

Agreed, difference being that's a perfect opportunity to address our glaring problem, the overly high wage bill.

Whereas the Jacks haven't got the room within their wage bill to replace Rangel, Pratley et al - replacements will want Champ wages.
