By that I mean is it the end of the 'league season' i.e. 46 games or the play off final?

If it is the 46 game season then Gerrard might be able to play for us in any potential play off games as his long term loan to Hull would have ended.

However, my gut feeling is the playing season ends after the play-off final, probably the 30 June.

The rule states that at the END of each season a playoff will take place, so therefore the season has ended before the play offs take place, just my interpretation of the rules.

Here is the rule do not know if you agree with me or not.

10.1.1.2

At the end of each Season, The League shall accept into membership the three clubs finishing in the lowest three places in The Premier League, in accordance with the Articles of Association, rules and regulations of The Premier League.
At the end of each Season, the two Clubs finishing in the highest positions in the First Division of The League shall be promoted to The Premier League in accordance with the Articles of Association, rules and regulations of The Premier League. The four next highest Clubs in the First Division shall take part in a Play-Off Competition. The winner of the Play-Off Competition shall also be promoted to The Premier League upon the
same terms.

God it would help if the bloody rules just said whether you could or could-not play returning loan players in the play-offs

To be honest I'm still not sure either way as the rules seem to be saying the play-offs are a separate competition to the league season and therefore you would assume for example Gerrard could play in that 3 game competition.

The doubt I have though is the reference to 'End of Season' above where as in the rules on loan players they make reference to 'End of PLAYING season' which again muddies the waters as the play-offs could be construed as being part of 'the playing season' even if they are classed as a different competition to the regular league season.

Correct Bakedalasker, but Leciester could have recalled DJ Campbell if they had put a clause into his contract.
Instead Leciester asked for a cash bonus if Blackpool went up

What would have happened if it was a Leciester v Blackpool play-off final. :?:

Agree it is complicated although it does state that it is the playing season of the loan player, so therefore if Hull finished the season outside of the playoffs then their season has ended, if they finish in the playoffs then their playing season ends when they are knocked out of the playoffs, they no longer pay him and he is returned to us.

Reading the rules no allowance has been made regarding that if Hull qualified for the playoffs and were to play us, we beat them over 2 legs. thereby Gerrard becomes our player again would we be allowed to play him in the final. nothing to say we could not, as far as I can see.

Here is the rule

Long Term Loan Transfers shall be for a Playing Season or from the commencement of the Playing Season to 31st December or from 1st January (the January Transfer Window) to the end of the Playing Season. The Board may approve loans between Clubs in membership of the competitions referred to in Rule 6.4.4 in respect of Players aged 24 and under on or before 30th June prior to the commencement of the Playing Season and provided the loan is registered by four (4) hours before the Club’s first fixture of its Playing Season or from any date between the commencement of a Membership Year to the 31st August in that Membership Year to any date between 1st and 31st January following or from any date between 1st and 31st January in a Membership Year to the end of that Playing Season relative to the Club taking him on loan.
