The real point is which disabled people do you want to get the free parking? All people who claim to be disabled? All people with the Blue badge? Only those on Motorbility? Who is going to decide this?
It is against the law to discriminate about disability, so a chap with an ingrowing toenail disability is treated equally to a paraplegic person...so in theory three quarters of the car park would be full of people getting free parking on the basis of their disability regardless of what it is.
The Blue badge is widely distributed in Wales and again many have the use of one in lieu of someone else and this badge can easily be abused to get a free space..it can ber passed from car to car and it would cause delays checking that the actual disabled person is actually in the car...
The Motorbility recipricants already receive a free vehicle, free servicing, free road tax, free tyres etc...do people think they should alo get in free infront of a chap thats working and struggling to run a car?
Look I am disabled so I have have nothing to gain from this post, but in my opinion I don't see why some fans should get free parking whilst others have to pay.
What is more appropriate is where the disabled spaces are currently placed...I park almost next to the walkway with the fans names on the bricks, by the gate that was brought over from Ninian...I am a hell of a distance away from gate three...saying that we are always first out of the carpark after the game.

Perhaps the disabled bays are reserved for Dave Jone's signings?

Its OK for Corky he's got a foot in both camps (and that's hard only having one foot)
I'd like to think I can see this from both sides having spent half my life with Beefy in every disabled away section ranging from 2 ft away from the touch line in the open with no cover all the way up to Port val 5 star disable section/
Disabled people should be (blue badge holders with poor mobility that is) allowed to have reserved parking near their ground entrance. Whether the costs should be free or subsidised I'll discuss later. genuine people in this category will have great difficulty parking away from the stadium and getting to their entrance, yes there are people that abuse the blue badge system but that is just logistics and surely the club can have an I.D badge supplied to the blue badge holder so without him being present the car cannot be let in and used by a mate lets say taking advantage.
as for costing, theoretically their benefits should provide adequate money for such events but we know that isn't always the case, but a mobility car or mobility allowance are provided for such reasons, so its a case of you can't have it both ways.
however and its a big HOWEVER, I think it would be a great gesture by the club to provide this service at a reduced cost for disabled season ticket holders, and for those that can only come on certain occasions then surely they will be prepared to pay the full amount providing the spaces for parking are easily accessible for their needs.
Yes people do take advantage, but the genuine cases should not suffer because of them. Just my opinion but a possible solution.

It would be nice Gwyn but if one person complained it would have to be stopped immediately...due to the anti dicriminatory law...the club would be seen as distiguishing between disabilities and making some disabilities more beneficial financially than others by allowing free parking to some and not to all....I know its crazy but its the law...Its like when they offer cheap tickets at games...lots of season ticket holders used to kick off...ha ha...can't win

I'm disabled i sit inbeetween the grange/grandstand area they wouldn't give me a disabled parking space ended up giving us a space at far end of ninian told us there no spaces left and when the disabled ends been full i've loads empty seats yet they still tell me it's full beyond a joke.

I have no real problem with the payment of 5pounds ,Its just I would like to park a little near to where I go in at gate4 ,As it it now I have to park near gate5 then try to walk to gate 4.

sorry that last post I put up ,I put my reply in the wrong place,
What I said was , I dont ask to park for nothing I pay my 5pounds thats ok , what i would like is to park near where my gate4 is, but I have to park by gate5 then try to walk back to gate4, With my spine problem and my heart problem by the time I get near my seat Im FKD!

Yes that is the same for a lot of disabled fans...no consideration was taken to where fans actually sit in the stadium when parking spaces were allocated...except for the disabled season ticket holders who are placed near their enrances...Phil Halligay is probably your best option to contact at the club but I think that what you really need is a disabled person who has a space in Gtae 4 rea to swop with you...that will be easy if that persons gate is where you are now near gate 5...but not so easy to find out if anyone is willing to swop.
Good luck mate.

That's not quite how the law works Corky it only becomes discrimination if the club fails to make 'reasonable adjustments' to comply within the DDA.
If CCFC ran a scheme by where blue badge holders were entitled to a 50% reduction on season ticket parking charges, that would be satisfactory within the DDA. The DDA does-not expect Employers or those providing services (such as CCFC) to burden themselves with complicated systems.
I would suggest that those who wish to take advantage of this offer, would be required to produce their blue badges as proof at the ticket office, with a note taken of the expirey date.

You could just as well agrue that there doesn't seem to be much point to a mobility scheme if once you got your car you can't afford to take it any where due to prohibitive parking charges?
Mon Jan 10, 2011 3:28 pm
Tony, how are parking charges prohibitive? Surely location and availability can be prohibitive but not charges. I just don't buy in to your argument that if abled then you can "shop around" yet disabled people can't. Someone's ability to pay a price has nothing whatsoever to do with being disabled or not.
Following your argument Virgin Airlines are prohibiting disabled peoples right to go to the Maldives because they charge them.
Being rich or poor has nothing to do with whether you are disabled or not. Why should a disabled person get something free when other fans who are less well off have to pay?
Quite right that the location and availability of disabled parking needs to be looked at but I don't think it should be free if other people have to pay.

It would be a good Idea to have the same kind of thing that they have at Wolves, a Fans council, then when Cardiff have a meeting 3/4 of them go to bring up thinks for and on behalf of the Fans

Um Yeah, ar, would you like to read the whole thread before adding to it? Tony is saying it should be free not that it is free for disabled.
Mon Jan 10, 2011 6:12 pm
We should have an abled vs disabled forum match to decide the outcome. The winners get free parking.
Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:09 pm
RichardBluebird wrote:Why shouldnt they be charged just because the are disabled
Because disabled people generally are amongst the poorest in our society and therefore in a fair and just society it makes sense to make certain products and services more affordable for them to compensate for their low incomes.
Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:19 pm
Surely this is no different to the multi stories in town ? We all pay there but have our own bays
Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:24 pm
The whole issue of empty disabled bays is bit of a concern, I have asked for one and been told they are all allocated and there
are none available !
I like others currently pay £135 per season to park, being a dialysis patient I would love to park nearer to my gate !

If that is the case and its that simple to implement then maybe its worth raising again...
what about blue badge owners earning more than £30,000 a year? Should they get it too?
Or just poor disabled people?
That is a joke by the way
