Why wouldn't you want the World Cup on your doorstep for crying out loud, its the biggest event in all of football where all the best players in the world would be playing at once just a few hundred miles away.
I am truly gutted for them, and no-one can fault the effort put into that bid, it was outstanding in contrast to Russia's.

I'm British and proud, and am gutted they never got it, it would have been great to travel to the Midlands or London to take in a World Cup game. It was a great opportunity lost.
By the way, have any of these people who are glad Russia won ever been to the place? I know people who have, and the majority of them said they would never go again. Why? Too dangerous and the Police are corrupt as f**k! They will demand your passport off you and you will have to pay them a fair wedge to get it back. What a great place to have a World Cup!!

Under the stewardship of Blatter, FIFA has taken the World Cup to new frontiers;
the Swiss has presided over World Cup tournaments in South Korea/Japan and South Africa so his decision to offer the 2018 tournament to a first timer is no surprise. Indeed that Russia, with its long and storied association with the game, have not yet had the opportunity to host the games should be more of an outrage than the fact that they have been awarded the rights in 2018. The Soviet Union, to which Russia's team is seen as successor, won the 1960 European Championships and has an illustrious record in the World Cup proper.
In more recent times clubs from Russia have competed and succeeded on the wider European stage with CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg both winning the UEFA Cup since 2005. It should not be said that Russia won the rights to host the cup only through the filtration of roubles and petro-dollars to ExCo members. That sort of attitude is repulsive. Russia is a football country. And any talk of corruption from the English contingent should be quelled. Was it fair to move Portugal's 1966 semi-final from Liverpool to Wembley on the eve of the game, meaning Eusebio and company were forced to endure a seven-hour coach trip?

Exactly, I don't see why it's so suprising
1st. Russia - never hosted a WC
2nd. Spain and Portugal - Portugal have never hosted a WC
3rd. Holland and Belgium - Holland and Belgium have never hosted a WC

Looks like you're a little upset with my opinion?......look back in history and see what the english have done to welsh people and its language ........my world isn't small minded, in fact it's probably too panoramic and knowledge filled than most and yours by the look of it? I'm glad they didn't get the world cup - they don't represent me as a Welshman in any shape or form. Well done to Russia!!
