no, ive only just signed up to this, but have viewed it for a number of months, i eventually decided that i think it looks like a good forum and id like to contribute to it. however, id never have signed up if i came on and couldn't see it first, like the shop analogy mentioned before, people like to have a look and decided if they like it before signing up to it.

what do you achieve by members only?

I don't feel I can answer this as I joined before I could view the messageboard.

i have voted no as i do indeed like to see what i am getting before signing up to something but on the positive side of thing this is the most informative forum i have been on and living abroad it is such a help with following the city

i do agree with you to a degree claire but people do like to shop hassle free before they commit to something and it could turn potential posters and members away only my opinion thou.

I don't understand why people who are already registered are saying no, when they already log in anyway! (I'm saying that as the only people who are able to vote are those already registered!)

Fair enough with your shopping theory, but the people voting are regestered already, so doesn't effect them.

For the record I voted that I dont care as it really makes no difference to me either way, as anyone can register if they want to see the content.

I think the Forum should be read only to non members then if they want to post or join then feel free to do so ......... also if possible I would lock Carl's updates to non members ( if its technically possible to do so ) . So over to you Owain

Actually I am Not Bothered, But a lot of Members wanted it Members Only, Si its gone to a Vote by the Members

so most 99% of the fans voting no have like 50 posts or less, because they can't be bothered logging in, contributing to the board or ticking the box that keeps them logged

I've been viewing the board for a while without being a member, I've now registered because I don't want to miss any of Carl's great updates!

I voted yes. I don't feel making it members only would make it a closed shop. As Claire stated in one of the first replies, it literally takes seconds to sign up and would prevent lazy guests just floating rather than getting involved in discussion. I feel there are so many silent supporters out there who don't realise how powerful and appealing their voice is. Hopefully, by making it members only it will encourage them to sign up and post around more meaning we have more vibrant and productive discussions.

I'm not voting yes to shut people out, I'm voting yes to persuade others to get more involved.

I Voted 'I don't care' as it is easy enough to sign up for anyone who wishes to simply read Carl's updates, then not contribute to the board at all...

Locking the membership will also harm the site as people will be driven to other message boards..
Like posted before, anybody can just copy and paste it (there is no way of stopping this, you can just 'print screen') then write it as their own update on another site.
I do like the idea of updates being members only, however I just can't see it working.

I voted yes last night, but now im not so sure. Going "members only" might do more harm than good in the long run. Its a great site & i want it to stay that way.

Good point... Let's just test it out for say a 2 week period then if there is any evidence that it is not working, scrap it...

My personal reasoning is this:

The success of 'Messageboards' are generally gauged on the number of hits it gets, and not the
number of those registered. If AAMB becomes a members only board, it will definitely not GAIN
more viewers/posters... it will stunt its growth somewhat. If there is an easy way to perhaps
just pass on Carls updates via PMs to members then there you have an option. But if non-members
cannot see the updates, many may well decide not to bother, and give the board a miss altogether!

EVERY time someone clicks on this messageboard its improves the figures. Even the Jacks/QPR idiots
who just come on here to slag us off help this board grow.

Censorship in any shape or form will probably affect figures. Worth thinking about is all

Strong points there.

Tbh Carls updates are the main attraction to this board. The attraction for me are the civislised debates we have here. I fear though that when we get as big as other boards these debates could be scuppered by the trawlers that have spoilt those other boards. So in a way making it a members only could preserve our debate status.

Many people window shop before entering...and many shop there on the reccommendation of others....


and many more buy online from Amazon....

people say "if its non members log in etc" then they'll go else where etc

but how long does it take to enter a username , choose a password and press create a account???

its less than a minute, i browse sits and you need a log-in to view etc, i just simply create a account, its simple
