Not saying that we need to spend big but chances of getting a 10 million rated player for 1 million is not going to happen.

I think we need to remember where we are.

Swansea and Stoke are established Championship clubs and we are a newly promoted club. It's always going to be more difficult.

Wrexham obviously have more money than nearly everyone. Charlton I'm not sure about.

I would argue that we are also an "established Championship club" that happened to spend one season outside the Championship last year.

Apart from that one season we had been an established Championship team for decades (and two seasons in the top flight). I don't think one season in League 1 should affect that greatly.

A big deal was made of the fact that relegation to League 1 cost us in the region of £10m and cost cuts and savings had to be made accordingly.

I must admit that I had hoped that with that £10m we lost from being relegated being at least partly restored and with the changes in FFP meaning clubs could spend more, and with an exciting young manager playing entertaining football with a young squad, that a decent size budget would be available during this window.

Now, we may sign a couple of £5m or £6m players over the next few days but I think we probably all agree that's not going to happen.

Virtually all the talk currently is of loan players rather than permanent signings.

It honestly looks like we're now just looking to see what's available before the window closes.

We'll know in a few days time of course

You see, I don't understand where this expectation that we'd spend millions came from.

There was no signal of that, either from the board or the manager. It was always "we are looking to improve our squad".

I also don't know why some seemed to think we would be having a real go at promotion.

I said just after we were promoted that I'd be happy with a comfortable mid table finish this season. I think we will have the squad to do that.

Maybe that's why I haven't got as worked up as others, because I didn't set overly high expectations in the first place.

I think s lot was said about 2 perminant signings and 2 loans and at the end of the window was the best time to wait and see,
Well we are nearly there so we will see what develops and hope Tan has backed us at the start of our season back in the bigger division.

I think the "BBM will be backed" stuff is what's caused all the expectations. A lot of people have taken that as we are having a real go even though it's a nothing statement that can be interpreted however you want, I personally always thought it meant he'll have a small budget and we'll take some loans nothing more

Yeah I took it to mean the same as you.

Would also say that we were never going to sign loads of players. BBM literally said after the season had finished that it would still be "quality over quantity".

I don't have any inside information but I think we'll sign three more which would take us to seven signings - Trott, Scanlon, Moylan, Bielik and these three. I think that's enough.

Well there was a suggestion that we'd offered almost £8m for the Norwegian lad and not only that, it was suggested that there were further funds available above and beyond that to stregthen the squad.

Unless we're accepting that it was all bullshit and that there was never going to be that amount spent in this window.

That, BBM's meeting with Tan, the change in the FFP rules, the extra £10m from getting promotion, the constant mantra that BBM is being fully backed by the club are probably all where the expectations have come from that the club may spend a few more bob than they have so far.

Personally I would be far from surprised if BBM has been given a tiny budget as a result of which is just findiing it impossible to get in the quality he insists he wants.

Fair enough, I personally thought we were never likely to sign loads of players based on comments from the manager.

As for Dahl, I don't think we'll ever know if the proposal we made was ever true - making a transfer proposal is not necessarily the same as an offer.

But we have spent £3m on Moylan and a deal worth £2.5m on Bielik. Also £1.5m on Trott. So that's £7m for a start, if he wasn't being backed then it would just be free transfers.

That's before you consider loan fees and loan wages.

This is why I reject the argument that he's not being backed.

Again, fair enough. I see your point.

But if we accept that if we lost £10m by being relegated and we've got that back by being promoted then we're still about £3m to the good, even if the figures quoted for Moylan and Bielik are correct.

Your point on loan fees is a fair one, but do all loans come with a fee nowadays? Especially the youngsters we're looking at?

I don't recall loan fees being mentioned for Kellyman or Scanlon but I may be wrong?

We need to start looking at Loan players from a few Premier Clubs - U 21's .
