Re: How Many more do we need ?

Another striker , a speedy winger , number 6 and another left back and im confident we will get all 4 but I think only 1 will come in before the wrexham game , the other 3 will be closer to deadline day , thats my guess

Re: How Many more do we need ?

Thu Aug 06, 2026 10:17 am

I think we need 4 more quality signings to challenge for top 6
We need a
left back
Number 6
Right winger
Goal keeper
All with the quality to be starters to improve our starting 11

Re: How Many more do we need ?

Thu Aug 06, 2026 10:20 am

We only get 2 in and go with what we got.

Re: How Many more do we need ?

Are we not happy with Robertson as 6?

We definitely need 4 and some dog in midfield because we got bullied in alot of games last season and got away with some games somehow, the championship is alot harder for managers changing instructions and better players so to speak but let's hope BBM can adapt rather than his one style of play in games if things are not working or we will be on a fight in my opinion if he does not :bluescarf:

It looked to me last year that we were going to be out battled after a few games. Port Vale turned into a slog and we got away with one in Wimbledon after that the team/BBM seemed to figure it out. I don't think we'll be out battled any worse in the championship it's not a more physical league than league one, the big difference will be managers having the ability because of better players to change their system if it's not working, hopefully BBM is up to it

We must have loan targets lined up -

Re: How Many more do we need ?

I think we need still need a minimum of 8 new players:

1 x goalkeeper to compete with Trott - we had no keepers on the bench last season.

2 x centre backs, as none of our centre backs apart from Lawlor are good enough - we conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game at League 1 level without Lawlor in the team.

1 x left back to compete with Bagan.

1 x defensive midfielder to replace the departed Wintle.

1 x box to box midfielder to add quality and legs - we need it for the Championship.

1 x winger as I don't believe most of our wingers are good enough at Championship level.

1 x striker to compete with Salech.

You're going to be disappointed then. We are obviously not going to sign eight. It's been clear since this manager came in that he's not someone who will sign loads of players.

Don't want to be cynical but it seems to me you're trying to set yourself up for disappointment so you can point to it later, by suggesting we sign an amount of players that you know won't happen.

Not at all, I'm just saying what I think we need.

I don't think anyone can dispute the areas I think we need to strengthen.

We also haven't replaced Wintle and Moylan has come in for the departed Kellyman, although hopefully we get Kellyman back.

Anyway, we are one squad member down with Wintle and Kellyman not here and only Moylan coming in.

You've said yourself we need cover at left back for Bagan and you want a minimum of 3 more in.

I'm saying I want us to strengthen in the positions I've listed, which will mean players will need to be offloaded as well.

I don't think our current squad at the moment can avoid relegation, that's why I'm saying we need to significantly strengthen in the areas I've highlighted.

Our defence in particular isn't good enough and with Wintle gone, we have no natural holding midfielder to protect our defence.

Our current squad will simply concede too many goals and we will get relegated.

Yeah, I do think we need LB cover. I also say we need 3-4 in, that's a lot different to saying 8.

I think you know full well that we won't sign 8, that was never going to be what the manager wants.

My theory is people have got so used to us signing 10 players every summer that they're struggling to adapt to the manager's strategy of bringing in targeted additions. I trust his judgement, given how people doubted him last year and he proved them wrong.

Hope we can get a couple in next week I like the look of cozier Duberry the player on loan at Bolton last season got pace and and an eye for goal!!

BBM doesn't like a big group allegedly so I think at most we will see is 2 loans.

Re: How Many more do we need ?

Any issues we have this season are likely to be defence-related in my opinion. You only had to see how many crosses Boro launched into the box last night to realise we would almost certainly struggle against them. Similarly, look what happened in the Plymouth away game last season when faced with an aerial bombardment.

Therefore, as a priority I would love us to sign a commanding centre half to play alongside Lawlor.

We've just conceded 2 goals against League 2 opposition with one of our defenders scoring an own goal. I think that answers your question.

If we'd have not conceded people would have, rightly, said that it was a friendly type game. Works both ways.

You keep saying it felt like a friendly. It wasn’t. It was a competitive fixture with a strong starting 11. We should not be conceding 2 against league 2 opposition in a competitive fixture if we have any hopes of a top half championship finish. If our players treated a competitive fixture like a friendly then they shouldn’t be starting for us because that’s unprofessional.

Admittedly I didn't go, watched it on Sky.

But it did feel like a friendly to me. Teams were working hard but there was nowhere near the intensity there would be for a league game.

But we won, which is always the only objective from cup games. So I do find the hysteria from some confusing.
