MATCH THREAD: " CARDIFF CITY v EXETER CITY " MATCH THREAD

Well, at one point it looked as though the defence would be decimated today - but a few recoveries from illness appear to have been made.

Calum Chambers and Joel Bagan start, while Will Fish, the other illness concern, is on the bench, too.

David Turnbull, who was a doubt with a groin injury, has made the cut, however Nathan Trott is a notable absentee, with Matt Turner in goal.

There is, once again, no replacement 'keeper on the bench.

Some neat feet from Perry Ng, Ryan Wintle, Alex Robertson and Omari Kellyman there opens up a slither of a chance to create something. Kellyman's ball through to Yousef Salech has too much on it, though, and the Grecians' defence recovers.

A comfortable start from the Bluebirds. Firmly in control so far, but struggling to create anr real openings.

Omari Kellyman again does well with his feet to earn a free-kick. Half-decent position - 30 yards out and pretty central.

Close! Alex Robertson with a lovely, bending free-kick. It looks bound for the top corner and it takes a diving save from Joe Whitworth to tip it around the post! Cardiff corner.

Robertson then whips in the corner and it comes of Exeter defender Ethan Brierley, under pressure from Yousef Salech. Joe Whitworth is momentarily worried but then saves.

Omari Kellyman again with some lovely footwork in that No.10 position. He spins and releases Cian Ashford, who chops in from the right and sticks a whipped cross towards the back post, but it runs out for a goal kick.

It's Wintle who is there again to head clear at the back post.

We’re a lot better than Exeter City, and any goals conceded will be a disappointment!

Save! A ball over the top from Cardiff sees Pierce Sweeney struggle to deal with it under pressure from Isaak Davies and the Welshman robs him of the ball inside the box.

Davies then lashes a left-footed low shot on target but Joe Whitworth's leg denies him!

Omari Kellyman's dancing feet earn Cardiff a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Weak effort from Joel Bagan, whose shot is headed clear.

After a little stoppage for an injury to Grecians keeper Joe Whitworth, we are back under way.

Dylan Lawlor is forced to step in to head a cross out for a corner.

Kellyman is slotted in down the channel and tries to stab a cross in, but it drifts out for a goal kick.

Exeter create a bit of chaos inside Cardiff's box, including a number of half-hit shots that don't make it on target thanks to flying City bodies. Alex Robertson manages to scramble it clear.

Cardiff clear a corner and Ryan Wintled hares after it. Joe Whitworth comes out from his box and is in a footrace with the midfielder to get the ball first. He just about clears, leathering it into the Ninian Stand.

Perry Ng does well to half deflect a cross into the box. Matthew Turner comes out to collect - that might be his first touch of the ball with his hands.

Currently, we’re allowing Exeter to look better than they are, and our own attacks are fizzling out in similar style to what has often come before, i.e. with a poor final pass

We are by far the better side though. We just need to make it count with a goal/goals!

Crowd looks not to good, so many empty seats

Some sloppy passing from Cardiff allows Jack Aitchison to run towards the City goal. He thumps one from 25 yards but Matt Turner parries away.

A decent attack from the Bluebirds sees a corner, which is sent in, and straight out!

Great work from Isaak Davies out on the left, but he just cannot get his ball in to the right person.

Omari Kellyman then does really well with the recycled ball, muscling his way into the box before winning a corner.

Yousef Salech has the ball in the back of the net. He shoves a defender out of the way and pokes home Calum Chambers' cross. But referee Tom Reeves rightly whistles for a foul.

Looked like an unnatural position handball from here, but the penalty is not given

It’s been a hard watch this first half, as the Bluebirds huff without puff to break down the average Exeter defence

Salech ‘goal’ was ruled out, well before he put it into the net, and the half ends with a stalemates

Cardiff by far the better team

Come out for a smoke jesus the football is boring although as usual we play ourselves in trouble with back four football passing at times. Sideways or down the side of there box and we still don't put any service in there. Killing me . Got to be some life in getting forward 2nd half rather than on edge football Vs a team near the bottom end.

Poor 1st half, slow in possession and allowing Exeter to settle into a deep back 5.
