Urgent reminder for South Wales Leeds fans!!

I'm glad you reconsidered your statement! (although I'm not convinced personally by the studied/worked there options! For me it's about living/used to live there or having a family connection from there! I would however not mind if anyone studying/working in Cardiff or Cardiff area started following the City!

Claire, I would normally agree with you on the studying/working options until I moved away from home and now for some bizarre reason I find myself keeping an eye out for Aberdeen results and go now and again with blokes from work. Football is a buzz and you need to get your fix every so often!!!!

Although, keeping an eye on results, isn't necessarily supporting them I know a few that do that

I agree with!! if you came from said place, Family connections there, Worked there, Lived there, Studied there, that i can understand, but what gets me we have at my works guys that support Leeds Everton Man U but when England play they hope England loose because they hate England, How hypocritical is that.
Any one that wants to support who the hell they want that is up to them. I do generally feel sorry for them because they will never experience the emotion that we do or of genuine loyal local fans of other teams. But what riles me is when they want to have banter with you pretending they have the same passion as you for there chosen Arsenal Chelsea Manure ETC but they dont have a clue. They cheer there team in front of the TV and thats there choice, Newport has coaches that go to Liverpool and you are telling me it matches what County fans feel getting back to one league from the 2ud division again.
Let them support there teams i know!! you know!! if we had are choice on who to support again then we would not change our team for nothing.

We then moved to Taunton where I grew up. (Once outgrowing the Man U, Liverpool etc teams people from there often support Bristol City or Yeovil, hence my hatred for them more than the Jacks!!!)

I have always followed Taunton Town. I've seen then play and lose at Wembley! Then seen them win the same competition at Villa Park in later years!

No club has the right to demand that its local people support them. Like anything the club needs to attract and sadly for Cardiff in the 40 years I have been following them there has not been much of an attraction. Thanksfully things are changing and hopefully we will do what Leeds did in the 70s, that is stay at the top for a while. If we end up doing that we will attract global support and end up taking 4,000 to 5,000 away supporters to games. I wonder then if those that complain about locals not supporting Cardiff will do the same to those that dont live in Wales supporting us?

Just to make myself clear on this I am referring to those that go and support their teams regardless where they come from or have been brought up. To those that claim to support a team but never go and see them then thats another argument.

On a football front, im dreading the game unless Bellamy is injured (is he???) Naylor at the back for us is a top bloke but not quite good enough for the Championship as he is to slow, on the other hand we are so Jekyll & Hyde at the moment so who knows, by the way, it matters not where you are from, if you go and watch your team you deserve respect, i despise man u, but still have respect for the ones that go...........

I normally agree with you to Claire! But as I said , assuming this Leeds fan is a Merthyr boy. Assumption is a powerful thing its true, but he hasnt said otherwise! but just going on the averages. Merthyr is a valley town, valley towns have loads of 'plastics' who invest time, money and emotions into their team which is in a City which has nothing to do with their life and is a long way away beyond the Welsh sides that need their support. Historically, Us, the Jacks, Newport and Wrexham to name a few have either gone or almost gone under more than once, one of the factors being dwindling takings at the turnstiles. I grew up in Ebbw Vale where in pubs when MUFC are playing LFC on sky its rammed full of taffs saying 'we' when referring to their plastic team of choice, then say they hate the English.
This has obviously scarred me!! If these plastics were converted into supporting their nearest pro or semi-pro team the Welsh teams would have much bigger fan bases.

Watching city in the dark days , then going into town and seeing all the plastic football top brigade. Never again!!

So Andy you admit its time for you to grow up!!? People who support a team that has 100% nothing to do with them normally lack any real values or personality and all this 'when i was growing up' nonsense doesn't wash with us real football fans i'm afraid.
The facts are simple, you have absolutely NOTHING to link you to Leeds and you just cannot bring yourself to support a team that you have a connection with who you live close to. I was assuming the South Wales Leeds fan had no connection what so ever with Leeds only the fact that they were successful in the 1970's. Thats why I was disappointed that he supported Leeds.

I respect anyone that has a connection with a club for any of the following reasons.
They live there.
They used to live there.
They have family from there.
They studied there.
They worked there.

My best mate has a season ticket next to me in the Canton, he is from Aberdeen a true Jock.Never will you see me at a city game without him. Lived in Cardiff for just a year before he caught the bug of watching the City and 20 years later bleeds blue blood like me. He followed Aberdeen and Falkirk and still looks out for their results with big anticipation and watches them when he goes back up north. THIS IS NOT A PLASTIC

Since I moved to Sheffield, I've been regularly to watch the Wednesday and Sheffield FC. I stand by my beliefs. City will always be my number one because I still have a home in South Wales.

Also you have the right to have supported Torquay or Yeovil even the Bristol sides.
