For me it's about living/used to live there or having a family connection from there! I would however not mind if anyone studying/working in Cardiff or Cardiff area started following the City!

Claire, I would normally agree with you on the studying/working options until I moved away from home and now for some bizarre reason I find myself keeping an eye out for Aberdeen results and go now and again with blokes from work. Football is a buzz and you need to get your fix every so often!!!!

He supports Leeds so what? For all you know he could have had family there or born there etc?
TBF he goes to Elland Road which is a lot more than you can say for most people around South Wales

Although, keeping an eye on results, isn't necessarily supporting themI know a few that do that
I'd like to go to a few other games myself if I wasn't watching Cardiff.
When you down next??

Hear that boyo ENGLISH. Hundreds of miles from home where the locals have absolutely nothing in common with you, historically, geographically etc etc, Plastics, freeloading bandwagon riding phoney traitors! Would you slate me for being a 'Disloyal English Fan' I hate England, I support anyone that is playing England in the football, rugby or any sport going?? (That said, I was born in England, but my Dad being from Ystrad Mynach has brought me up to be a Welsh girl.)
I guess that makes me a 'disloyal English girl' when I don't even consider myself to be English.

I should support, Torquay United being born there then?
Maybe I should support Cheltenham having lived there a couple of years (don't even remember it, I was too young)
Or should it be Bristol City/Rovers having lived there for 5 or so years??
We then moved to Taunton where I grew up. (Once outgrowing the Man U, Liverpool etc teams people from there often support Bristol City or Yeovil, hence my hatred for them more than the Jacks!!!)
I have always followed Taunton Town. I've seen then play and lose at Wembley! Then seen them win the same competition at Villa Park in later years!
As for following City... Am I a plastic for having a City season ticket for years??? Maybe I am, but my Dad being an Ystrad Mynach boy and always supporting City, makes me think otherwise.
Just my opinion though.

Sorry Claire I am generalising here I should take a step back and reconsider.
I was assuming the South Wales Leeds fan had no connection what so ever with Leeds only the fact that they were successful in the 1970's. Thats why I was disappointed that he supported Leeds.
I respect anyone that has a connection with a club for any of the following reasons.
They live there.
They used to live there.
They have family from there.
They studied there.
They worked there.

To be honest, as a football fan, no, I don't think I could. Why does he not support a team in South Wales if he lives here and has done all his life?
That Leeds "fan" has admitted on ccmb that he has no links to the place at all. He is simply a glory hunter left over from the 70s.
As long as people support their local team I have no problem with them. But this guy doesn't. He never has. He's the reason Merthyr, us, Swansea and the Welsh Premier have experienced so many money problems over the decades.
Since I moved to Sheffield, I've been regularly to watch the Wednesday and Sheffield FC. I stand by my beliefs. City will always be my number one because I still have a home in South Wales.
It's simple really.
