What’s so special about our players?

I posted something the other day about how very few of our players have actually performed consistently in league football.

Trott - people claim to be the best goalkeeper in the league.

Chambers - an experienced PL player

Ng - proven solid championship RB

Osho - proven championship + Ligue 1 player

Turnbull - cost 3m(?) decent player for Celtic with Europe and CL experience

Wintle - experienced championship player

Rubin - people claim to be too good for league 1

Robertson - brilliant in this league with pompy

Willock - experienced championship player

Salech - people claimed to be too good for league 1

Robinson - proven

Then you have players like Lawlor, Kpakio, Will Pysgod, Joel Colwill getting massive plaudits.

If you look at our team ON PAPER we should be good enough to win this league. There’s a lot of proven and expensive players there for league 1. For whatever reason some of these are not performing to standards they’ve set before. Is it playstyle? Management? Or have they just been over estimated?

It’s all subjective of course. But there are other teams with players who are good at this level or higher. I’ll find the post I did the other day.

I’m not sure it’s a championship side really.

Trott hasn’t played in the championship
Kpakio hasn’t played in the championship
Ng has played well in the championship
Bagan hasn’t played well in the championship
Lawlor hasn’t played in the championship
Osho hasn’t played much at championship level
Fish didn’t play much in the championship certainly not well
Chambers has played well at a level above the championship but didn’t for us last year
Colwill,R has been very inconsistent at championship level
Turnbull hasn’t played well at championship level
Robertson hasn’t played well at championship level
Wintle hasn’t played well at championship level
Colwill, J hasn’t played well at championship level
Willock hasn’t played well for us at championship level
Ashford has been very inconsistent at championship level
Davies hasn’t played well for us at championship level
Kellyman hasn’t played at championship level
Salech has had half a good season at championship level
Robinson was very inconsistent at championship level

We don’t have much championship experience at all. Not sure why people think we are a championship club with championship level players. We finished bottom of that league and then lost half the squad.

BBM is rotating to keep the players fresh. He knows better than us I’m sure what makes young players tick.

I agree with your assessment of the players but the point I’m trying to make, is that they should be performing a lot better than they are or have been. They all have a decent reputation until coming to Cardiff. The reason for that needs to be looked at. I’m positive we can get more out of these players.

Tan is ruining the club with lack of investment yet our support is superb

He'll take us up, I think, get the internationals out of the way, and we will improve again.

I’m not sure why they should be performing better is my point.

Our youngsters have a high ceiling. But they are going to be inconsistent.

I remember people were excited when we signed Chambers, Willock, Wintle, Turnbull, Robertson and so on. They’ve come with a reputation but they aren’t showing it for some reason. That’s why I expect more from them due to their reputation before hand. If that makes sense.

Players get better and players get worse.

The players we have left in the squad did not perform in the championship at all sadly.

The situation was critical at the end of the season up to June.
A double drop relegation, a natural possibility.
The place was blown in.

BBM has done really well IN SPITE of Tan, not because of Tan.
Expensive dead wood gone, and using youngsters and making inconsistent
Players more consistent. Getting players fitter in thought and movement
Even with only half a pre season.
He’s getting a tune out of players that others couldn’t.

Well done Brian!!!
