Agree, that was the lowest point and worse than embarrassing.

I remember we were told the rebrand wouldn’t happen due to fan opposition but then they did it anyway.

If we now got relegated from the Championship to non league, it wouldn’t be as bad as seeing nearly the whole stadium in red for that Brighton game.

Many fans will rightly never forgive Tan for the rebrand. I know there are plenty of people who still haven’t come back to games. Some will come back when he’s gone.

But worst of all, some will never come back. Tan and those “fans” who abused those who stayed blue have ruined it for them forever.

Our promotion and first ever season in the Premier League will always feel less than it should because it was in red.

When you’re in the stadium and you look up at Upper Ninian, it’s a constant reminder of those dark times.

I returned my season ticket immediately after following city for 25years. I believe only 150 did, absolutely shocking!

THE RED AND SO MANY SUPPORTING IT

Agree, the changing to red and badge on one mans whim. Was any of the board advising Tan ? Could nobody see that it would alienate so many loyal fans - club and tradition thrown out like a rag.
Top league status should have been in blue and Mr Tan could have been a hero instead of a zero.
So many of us were hurt and it was embarrassing.
Yes since i have been a bluebird (1969) it must be the most hurtful and embarrassing.

I’m the same as this , had been watching the club regularly from the age of 18 / 1998 and this was easily the most embarrassing period in the club’s history. Prior to the rebrand any club v country debate was clear cut for me ( was always club ) but the rebrand changed that ( albeit exacerbated by our departure from ninian park if I’m honest ) . I’ll always support Cardiff but not with the same passion as before . Perhaps it’s an age thing though too , mid 40s, job family etc .

No 2 ways about it the rebrand was a disgrace as was the willingness of many fans to run with it . Red or dead my arse . I would have preferred a pompey route from the bottom .

Forgot to mention above , I’m pretty sure rules have been introduced to stop such changes happening without fan approval haven’t they ?

I’m sure the football league brought something in . Shame it was too late for us

Yes due to people like Tan at last the rules have been changed and he would not get away with it now, sadly to late for what he did to us.

Yep only 150 did. Crowds two seasons afterwards were higher than we had in years so people weren’t that arsed.

Those pictures and seeing all that red is quite the horrifying sight though.

Likes to keep it going every now and then to stoke the hatred.

Normally when things are going reasonable well and things are positive off the pitch.

I see. What a shame, when things have picked up so quickly over the last few months and something confined to history is causing us to progress even further. Maybe this is contributing to what people believe are lower crowds and people who supported the club and accepted the red feel unwelcome at the club. Which is sad over a colour, also ironic as we haven’t always been blue. The crowds also a lot bigger when in red.
But we back to blue now and we all going in the right direction. Great coaching team, great management team and own ship who have learnt a lot over the years which now seems to be paying off. For me times have never been so good club secure, team improving all the time an owner and chairman who are massively improved. Good days ahead.

We can hope.

The crowds thing is a huge misnomer.

Crowds were up under the red. That’s factual. It also helped we were doing well too and spent a lot. When we started losing the protests started.

There is a lot of changing history in this post.

Simple fact is: aside from the 150 who returned their season tickets and the handful who did make their feelings clear. (The ruler of this site being one) most went along with it when it meant significant funding in the team etc.

Years later lots of fans stopped going citing Red and Tan as the reasons why.

The crowds were up because we were top of the Championship and then got to the Premier while in Red. The crowds then dropped when we were relegated back to the Championship WHILE STILL IN RED. They continued to drop forcing Tan to return us to Blue because we were close to dropping so much that it would have take us decades or more to return to a decent level of support. So to say our support was the highest under Red is total bollocks. We had bigger support when we returned to the Premier under Warnock in Blue.

We sold out both times so percentage wise it was the same.

But…..the crowds we had in Red were higher than previously that is a simple fact.

You have just said it’s cos we were top. I totally agree. It’s about success. I’m not the one jabbering on saying Red had a negative impact on crowds. It didn’t. Losing did. End off!!!!

Sadly, IMHO, the worst part of the ‘Red Debacle’ was not Tan & the club, but those fellow ‘supporters’ who attempted to intimidate those who wanted to keep the club blue, whilst I wasn’t there, I heard from a fair few London blues who attended a meeting in Cardiff to challenge the club and the meeting was interrupted by several high profile ‘supporters’ who physically threatened them to put up or shut up. After this, many who had supported the club for over 30 yrs simply walked away….that divide and separation has yet to be healed….
It’s one thing for supporters to be united against the club but when its supporters against ‘supporters’ then the damage that has done is going to take a long time to heal.
Some people need to take a long hard look at the stance they took whether it was active or whether they did enough to stop those that behaved in such a poor manner….
Just my opinion.

First I’ve heard of that specific detail. But totally agree that the main issue is the split in the support that has had a much longer lasting effect that the red did, albeit it was caused by the red.
